I just say, "No, thank you." If they push, I just say, "Thank you for offering, but I'm okay," and then I change the subject or say I have work to finish up and turn back toward my monitor. That makes it pretty clear the conversation is over without being rude.

Logging definitely helps. There are days I feel like I don't eat much, but holy crap I ate 2200 calories. Then there are days I feel stuffed, and I only ate 1300. You'd be amazed at how many calories certain foods have, and sometimes there are foods you think might be high but really aren't. Try logging for a week, and…

Stop taking those "fat burning" pills. They're a waste of money. Since you're on your feet all day, make sure your calories are set correctly. Also, since you're under 200 pounds, I'd recommend setting it to one pound per week if you have it set to two. Two will put your calories too low.

As others said, it depends on why you ate that much. It has nothing to do with calories and everything to do with psychology. If you simply ate a lot of fruit and veggies today because you were hungry and that's what you felt like eating, that's not a binge. If you ate and ate until you were full and still ate a bit more…

My goal is to lose 200 pounds. I've lost 56 so far.

I didn't mean their values; I meant that fructose and glucose are different things. :) I realize they both affect my insulin.

30 is pretty low. Once my doctor verified I have insulin resistance (yours should do blood work), he put me on 500mg of extended-release metformin (no tummy issues!) and told me to keep my carbs around 100 per day. He said a lot of his PCOS patients have luck with the South Beach Diet, which is more "forgiving" than…

Thank you, everyone. I'll check out some blood sugar monitors and start checking my levels, particularly after meals that involve carbs. My mom has checked me when I go up north to visit her, and I'm usually around 100-115 after a meal, which I think is good, yes? I usually try to keep my carbs between 100 - 130 g per day,…

I don't take insulin. I'm pre-diabetic, not diabetic. I don't check my sugar or anything like that. I eat fewer carbs, exercise, and take metformin. I'll keep the hypoglycemia in mind and watch for that, though. I'll toss some of those little boxes of raisins in my swim bag. Thanks!

I keep my carbs at 25-30% per my doctor. :) He said the exercise would be an added bonus.

I'm going through this right now. You have to fit things where you can. My friends know weekends are better for me and weeknights are right out. I walk during my lunch break so that if I get swamped with homework that night, I won't have to miss a workout. Sometimes I use my lunch break to do homework. I admit I don't get…

Have you tried the extended-release Metformin? I've never had a single side effect with it, and my doctor said none of his patients have ever complained. The XR version is a godsend.

If he has a microchip, it will set off the metal detector. I'd do another thorough sweep of the yard and house just to be sure. If nothing turns up in the house or yard, an X-ray really is mandatory at this point. The longer he goes without passing it, the more harm and pain it will cause.

Bumping because I have to know how this ends. I hope the little guy is okay. Poor pooch. Maybe we can all send her $10 toward his vet bill. ;)

We go out to eat every Friday night, and I have the occasional "fun size" or "mini" candy bar in the afternoon when work gets stressful. When we go on vacation, I tend to eat whatever I want (within reason), and I still drop a couple pounds from all the walking and stair-climbing. Could I be losing weight faster? Sure.…

To add to this, every time we go on vacation, I lose weight. I don't track, and I don't feel like I exercise more than I do at home, but I always lose weight. On our last trip to San Francisco, I ate all day (lots of local fruits and veggies with lean meats and greens), but I also had some desserts and junk food too. We…

I remember losing weight a few years ago and not worrying about it. I noticed my clothes getting bigger and just kept buying smaller sizes. I didn't count calories, just tried to eat better, and I walked for an hour almost every night - no HRM or tracking. I ended up losing around 40 pounds, and the only way I knew that…

Swimming newbie here. I swim at our university's pool. As far as I can tell, the lanes are fairly mixed when people share them. Meaning, the fast swimmers share, and the slow swimmers share, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which lanes they end up in. From left to right, I'll see something like medium,…

I just started. I'm going to swim three days per week (Tues, Thurs, Fri) and add a bit more time/distance every time I go. Last night was my first try, and I swam a half-mile in one hour. That's really slow, but I wasn't discouraged since it was my first time and I weigh 300 pounds. I know that as I lose weight and build…

The wide upper chest is probably from developing your chest and back muscles, not your lungs or ribs expanding. :)

That's probably water weight. I dropped six pounds the first week and 3-4 pounds the following week. Then it slowed to a normal pace. Wouldn't it be nice if you could keep that up AND have it be healthy? ;) I'd love to lose six pounds per week. I could be at goal weight in no time.

I had my hormones checked last year (please do this if you haven't yet). My doctor put me on metformin, took me off the high-estrogen BCP (my estrogen was fine without them), and put me on progesterone since my progesterone was close to zero. I also eat around 100-125 carbs per day, sort of like a modified South Beach diet…

I got rid of all of mine because 1) they were unflattering and 2) if I have them around and gain a few pounds, that means I'll have clothes to wear, which ISN'T good. By having clothes in my current size only, it means if my jeans start getting kind of tight, it forces me to get back into good habits. The idea of having to…

Your doctor is a jerk. He should be supporting you, not saying you won't be pretty unless you have surgery this year.

The McDonald's near me has apple slices, and the 3-piece chicken selects (chicken tenders) are 380 calories. They're made with breast meat, unlike the McNuggets.

I'm not sure what your situation was, but anyone who's interested should talk to their insurance company. I know some plans will cover some/most/all of it if you've lost a certain percentage of body weight and your doctor can prove it's causing issues. My doctor told me to keep track of how often I get rashes underneath…

I'm with her. Don't blame yourself. Just because you got dumped (in a cowardly fashion, nonetheless) doesn't mean you did anything wrong or you aren't worthy. You know how some people like onions and some people don't? Onions are awesome. They have health benefits and go with a lot of dishes. Some people don't like them,…

I work full-time Mon-Fri, and I'm in school. During the week, I work out after work since it's so much easier than waking up early. I swim laps after class Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evening, and I walk around my neighborhood the other days. I have an hour for lunch, so I walk during lunch break if I know it's going to…

I've done that with TDEE since calories aren't eaten back. I like to keep track of my minutes, though, so I'd just log 1 calorie.

Yes, and yes, but to a point. I use a heart rate monitor since MFP's numbers are usually pretty high. But even then, I subtract 10% from my HRM, since those can be off too. I don't eat all of my exercise calories back, but I do eat some. I don't want to eat too few calories because then my weight loss stalls. But I don't…
