  • Eat some beans/legumes and you'll have no trouble getting plenty of iron  Butternut squash, chickpeas, some other select veggies, and fortified almond/soy/rice milk will get you calcium
  • I agree that the increased fiber could cause temporary digestive discomfort, though your body will get used to it and from my experience things get a lot easier and more efficient in that area over time. I seriously question the idea you can eat too many fruits and veggies, especially when most people eat too few. 100…
  • I love roasted broccoli and brussels sprouts. Also I'll eat grape tomatoes by the bowlful. 2 cups worth is only about 60 calories!!
  • You must have it worse than me. While my ankles ache and pop often, I haven't had a dislocation (knock on wood). My mother has broken bones in her ankles 4 times! One of the main reasons I want to lose weight and gain strength is to hopefully prevent the same fate. My wrists pop constantly and I can't lift anything…
  • Are you talking about the calorie adjustments made on MFP by linking it with fitbit? For some reason, MFP give me a fitbit adjustment that is about 200 calories higher than what's on the fitbit website. I also stopped losing until I realized that MFP was giving me too many calories and I started using fitbit's website…
  • I have EDS also. My mostly affects my hands, feet, elbows and knees. I'm guessing you have more hip/shoulder issues since you talk about dislocations. My knees hurt me the most when exercising. I always bend them too far backwards when I just stand and walk. Also my ankles cause me a lot of trouble if I try doing aerobic…
  • NEVER!! :noway: I absolutely love my fitbit. I never stop wearing it. It's made me so much more aware of how much activity I get each day. I didn't realize how little I moved when I work from home. Now, I make sure to take walks during my breaks. Fitbit has made me much more active in general. But if you found it more…
  • This is how I feel. I'll be under in MFP but over in Fitbit, then after midnight it reconciles to what Fitbit says. Because of this, I use Fitbit amounts. If Fitbit says I have 150 calories and MFP says 350, I go with fitbit. MFP seems to make huge fitbit adjustments for me. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't losing until…
  • I have the Fitbit Zip, which is way cheaper but doesn't count flights of stairs or sleep. I like seeing how active I am on average and seeing when I'm moving the least so I can build strategies to move more. I never walk anywhere without it clipped on!
  • Food can contribute to how you feel more than most care to admit. I dealt with depression for years. While I've had it under control for quite a while now, when I have a bad eating week it's quickly followed by low mood, very poor quality sleep, and slower body movements, all of which are markers of depression. The bad…
  • This. Dry measurements are different than cooked measurements.
  • Beans/Legumes are awesome! Protein, fiber, complex carbs, nutrients. They are super healthy. And also, if you're trying to lose weight, they are super filling! I eat them everyday :)
  • I love my fitbit, but like someone else mentioned it really is just a smart pedometer. I like seeing how active I am on any given day. I was amazed how many more steps I took while at work in the office than I did working from home. It's helped me incorporate more movement into my day. But don't expect it to accurately…
  • I also use my food scale to weigh it. Simple and reliable. When I didn't have a food scale, I use to divide the box by however many servings were in the box and rubber band each serving before putting the pasta back in the box. Not the most practical but it worked alright.
  • I like Earthbound Farms Half Baby Spinach and Half Mixed Greens with some red cabbage and radish. Topped with Annie's Naturals Balsamic Vinaigrette and Lite Goddess Dressing. Simple and super yummy!
  • I agree with everyone else. I tend to naturally eat low fat and have to be aware to make sure I keep my fat intake up. Not only do low fat days make me hungry, but they kill my mood :frown: . Fat makes me happy. It's brain food after all!
  • I'm the same way. Not trying to change though. I think a huge reason "dieting" hasn't worked is because I tried in vain to eat less food. Going against a basic instinct like hunger is setting yourself up to fail, imho. Now I just eat tons of produce so I'm not hungry and I'm within my calories. I see it as the best of both…
  • salembambi gave you some great sources. Blog.fatfreevegan.com is another good one. Theppk.com also great. They are vegan but great for vegetarians too! You can also add me if you'd like. I usually make simple veggie meals and my diary is open
  • I used to have an Arctic Zero pint every now and then. Especially when it was tmotm and I just wanted something cold and creamy to eat. Some flavors are truly awful, but I personally though the Cookies and Cream was delish. I haven't had one in a while but if the ice cream bug hits I won't hesitate to get another. As for…
  • Short soy latte, only 90 calories and so yummy. Lots of people don't know about short drinks. They are 8oz while a tall drink is 12oz. If I want more volume, I'll get a grande soy misto, which is half steamed milk and half coffee (instead of espresso shots like a latte). The grande soy misto only has 100 calories. No added…
  • NOT TRUE as long as the Vitamin A comes from VEGETABLES. Being a vegetarian, that's where I get my vitamin A. There is absolutely NO danger in consuming large amounts of Vitamin A from plants :smokin: http://www.livestrong.com/article/546198-can-you-get-vitamin-a-poisoning-from-eating-too-many-vegetables/
  • Why do you say she "needs" to limit fruit to 2 servings a day and "needs" to exercise 1 hours a day, 5 days a week?? Is that in some sort of rule book for vegetarians lol?!? I've been veggie for 13 years now (wow I feel old) and recently have started to really cut back on eggs and dairy. Add me if you'd like :)
  • Nutrient percentages are based on the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) and it doesn't matter what your age, height, or weight is it's the same for everyone (except iron which is different based on gender). Most nutrients you don't need to worry about exceeding because the RDA is a MINIMUM. One orange and you've exceeded…
  • You'll probably start to like it over time. It's like switching from skim milk to 2% (or from 2% to skim milk), at first you hate the taste of the new kind of milk, then after a while your palate get accustomed to it and suddenly you hate the taste of the milk you used to prefer. I agree white rice is not unhealthy, and I…
  • Totally not true. If you weight train you'll build muscle deficit or not. As others said, you can't spot train. As you lose weight you'll eventually lose fat on your thighs, but you may always keep similar proportions. Fat comes off wherever it feels like. I also have big thighs and a relatively small waist. It'll…
  • The article reminds me of a high school friend of mine. She was skinny and blonde and conventionally pretty in high school. I've been overweight since grade school. I didn't see her for a few years then we ended up working at the same place. She had gained 50+ pounds and she constantly made comments about "skinny b*tches"…
  • Ok, they might poke fun of you for a day. Are they seriously going to harrass you forever about something so silly? Probably not. Let them make their comments, laugh along with them, and then go ahead and do what you think is best for you.
  • The MFP counter is in % of RDA for calcium. The RDA is 1,000mg, so if your counter gets to 100 then you've reached 100% of that goal!
  • Water is 100% chemical. Just sayin'
  • Rice milk is cheap. I'm not a fan but some people love it. Almond milk is not nearly as expensive where I live in Chicago. Are you buying from a health store? The Jewel (Safeway) by me sells it for the same amount as Soy milk, and there are barely more expensive than dairy milk  Oh, could you be looking in the…
