  • I'm surprised people are so against the idea of getting help. I went to therapy for depression and it really taught me so many strategies and coping mechanisms so now I can self-manager my moods and I am a much happier person for it. I also used therapy to quit smoking with great success years back. I've definitely thought…
  • I want to begin trying to conceive in the next year or two (before it's too late :# ) and minimize the risks as much as possible, which means getting to a healthy weight.
  • I so feel you, except it's my female coworkers. One in particular always says "Oh, you look so skinny!! Oh look at that waist!" when I've lost any weight, and it makes me cringe :# :# :# I just give minimal response and hope they get the hint. Only when one coworker harped on it did I tell her, privately, that she was…
  • Interesting. I guess she misled me on their philosophies. Thanks for the info!
  • I'm not low protein, but my close friend has been for years, aiming for 10-15 percent of calories from protein. She likes recipes by Furhman and Ornish. Mind you, both these guys are extreme vegan, kinda crazy doctors, BUT they publish some good recipes. I've particularly enjoyed the soups she makes. And fyi, she eats…
  • On the days I drink a crap ton of diet mountain dew, it adds up to like 20-30 calories. Not zero, but not significant at all.
  • Yes, it will be a calorie deficit so you'll lose weight. I believe it can be a slower pace, especially as you get closer to goal, your deficit may be very small.
  • In 5th grade, kids started bullying me. My pediatrician said I couldn't have French fries anymore. One day, I looked in my full length mirror, and realized I was really fat. On the plus side, I realized that extra weight could be thrown around effectively, so the overt bullying didn't last. :D
  • I agree with using what mfp calculates as maintenance (including eating exercise calories). I've done 2 diet breaks that way. I gained water weight that quickly left after going back to a deficit. If you feel that might be a little low, add a couple hundred calories. Even if you end up eating like 200 above maintenance…
  • I use my boyfriend's scale when I go out of town in business trips :D :D :D It's so small and compact but works great
  • I don't think this is true at all. I know when I played with the calculator, there was little difference in payout between losing 10% in 6 months v 20% in six months. I do think they pay a lot more to people who start at high weights. I usually see low payouts with those who are in a healthy bmi our close to it. Also,…
  • True but you grant those sites free license to use your copyrighted photographs. Facebook, I know, has narrowed down their own publishing licenses after some bad PR. I'm honestly not current if others have followed their lead or retained full publishing licenses. Doesn't really bother me tbh because I don't post anything…
  • Those terms are outdated (from 2014), the terms I agreed to make clear that verification photos are private and cannot be used for anything but weight verification. Of course, if you post photos on the forums or other areas of the site, they are fair game, just like on pretty much all social media sites.
  • This is my strategy. I leave work at 3:30. I stop drinking liquid by 2:30 to avoid the need to pee on the train home. And I always go right before leaving work. I have no problem drinking before my morning commute though. Maybe because I'm more dehydrated upon waking.
  • Hey, I got paid today! I did my final weigh in just 5 days ago. Pretty sweet to make about $840 profit for losing weight I was going to lose anyway! Eta: I checked the agreement and no, they don't have the rights to use your images for ads :) They don't even require before/after images.
  • Very true, I didn't mean to imply otherwise. That's why I said I often say my stomach is acting up. My friends are far from insistent, they just don't always realize my "no, thank you" actually means no lol.
  • They keep asking until i leave. Seriously. It's not scary, just annoying and incredibly obnoxious  That's why I only subject myself to extended family one day a year. I mean, they thought I was a lesbian because no straight women would pass the age of 21 unmarried (not joking) and that my father being Puerto Rican…
  • While no thanks may work for many situations, I have family that doesn't accept a no. Also, some cultures take no thanks as just part of the polite banter before you eventually accept the offer (my Vietnamese friends are big on that). If I dont plan on eating anymore, I just say my stomach is acting up. Otherwise, I…
  • I don't have the same problem per say, but I do feel more picky than in the past. Like some cookies brought to the office yesterday, I'm sure they would've tasted good but they wouldn't have been absolutely delicious. I want to indulge but only on things that are to die for. The other stuff isn't worth the extra time in a…
  • What does what other people in other situations on other threads think is offensive have to do with OP? Not trying to sound snarky I just don't understand why you posted that.
  • I didn't even notice that this came from a guy you were seeing. In that case, I'd definitely take it more personally and see it as a red flag. I'd probably have gone off right then or sent a bunch of angry, ranting texts later lol. I'd be super upset!
  • I'm with you in that I've never hated my body, and I'd be pretty annoyed by someone telling me what they want my body to look like, but unless it's super upsetting or he continues to make comments like that, I'd probably drop it. I personally try to avoid all talk of my body, positive and negative, with anyone outside of…
  • When my fitbit stopped working, I tried a few apps. I now use an app called pacer on my android and it seemed to count about the same amount of steps in an average day as my fitbit. Samsung health, on the other hand, counts like twice as many steps. You could download other apps just for comparison to make sure yours isn't…
  • That's a very specific number
  • I was on a few antidepressants over the years, and while they were instrumental in helping my depression, nothing changed my life like therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy helped me deal with exactly what you describe, breaking behavioural cycles. Stopping those dark ruminations. I highly suggest trying it. You can focus…
  • Where do those numbers come from? I've always been curious. And what is ideal weight? Middle of bmi?
  • This reminds me of a thought experiment I read once on the Straight Dope regarding the Irish eating only potatoes and milk during the famine. Apparently they actually didn't just eat potatoes, but the article went into whether one could, in theory, live on only potatoes and milk. The basic gist was that, to get enough…
  • For working out in winter, you can go on YouTube and look up "walk away the pounds". It's a walking- like exercise, so not heavy at all, and easy to do with little space indoors
