  • You could invest in a cheap 3-cup rice cooker. Most of them come with a steamer tray. You could then cook a rice pilaf or other rice below and steam veggies or fish on top... Simple and quick.
  • I had spending money left over from my vacation - so I parcelled it out and put some in envelopes. I get to open an envelope at each milestone and spend the cash!
  • No foods are 'bad' in my opinion. And there's no 'bad' way to cook something, as long as everything is in moderation. Want fried chicken - fry that sucker up (if you've got the calories, and especially if you need the calories!). Add some planko bread crumbs! I love those things.
  • Thanks! Commenting so I can save this for later. :D
  • Also, if you're nerdy, you can try Fitocracy. You get points for everything you do and you "level up", have quests you can complete, and achievements you unlock. It's geared towards weight lifting and strength training mostly. A good app for your phone: Jefit. It helps plan workouts and keep track of them. Also, free. And…
  • I had a trainer set me up with the cable-pull strength machines (I think that's what they're called) and I have reps and weights set up for me. I didn't think I'd like strength training as much as I do! So it wouldn't be very hard to transition... but yeah. Maybe. Once I get a little more comfortable, I might do that.…
  • I feel the same. I try to go to yoga class and it's a very difficult level. I'm constantly having to stop to get my breath. I'm overweight and short while all the other people in the class are tall and skinny. I've even had the instructor look right at me while saying: "It's okay if you can't do the pose..." Yeesh. I guess…
  • I used to eat this stuff all the time. Here are some suggestions: Whatever you do, don't follow the directions on the jar that tells you to mix it with your jelly. YECCH. That did not end well. You can vary the amount of water you add to it, to make it thicker or thinner, depending on your tastes. I could taste the…

  • I love regular soda and I hate diet. To make it a little better for me, I usually try to drink imported Coca cola from Mexico, since it uses real sugar, rather than HFCS. They also sell soda at passover that has real sugar. (Of course, this is a whole different topic ;) ) Anyway, I've gotten to where I see soda as a treat.…

  • Ok, I hate the gym. I have absolutely no interest in this building. The gym near me is crowded and I feel like everyone is judging me the moment I walk in the door. However... I have about a million parks near me, some with some really great shade on hot days. I love to walk and run at these parks. I've gotten to where I…
  • Hi! I also have a goal I'm trying to reach. I have to be in a wedding in September. My brother's fiancee asked me to be a bridesmaid. She's a size 2 and so are all of the other bridesmaids. I'm a size 18 right now... yikes. I'd love to get down to my goal weight, which was a size 6 at the time. I've been there before, but…
  • Welcome! The best thing I've learned is if I had a bad day, that doesn't mean the diet is a complete failure and I should just give up. Even if I had a bad week of gorging and gained a couple of pounds... don't give up! Everyone has bad days. And food is so ingrained in our culture (weddings, funerals, family get…
  • When I heard about MFP, I joined but I wasn't sure if I wanted to actually use it. So I just started logging everything I ate - no matter how bad it was. I was just curious to see what I was eating. But logging the food made me actually see it, and see the numbers. And when I would plan meals, I would know I had to log it,…

  • I lost about 45 lbs on WW and kept it off for a year and a half. But then I moved to an apartment where I was living by myself, got a new job, and had a lot of changes in my life that rearranged everything. Needless to say, I gained back all the weight. So I went to rejoin WW and was a bit appalled by the changes they made…
