  • i am curious if others are like me re carbs. First, I don't eat over my limit but I do eat and crave carbs more in wintertime. Something about cold weather and carbs, they go together like a house and carriage??? I know in the summer I eat healthier carbs, local vegetables are finally back, etc. So in the winter I do not…

  • I find i can't eat as much as i used to and I plan for days like this - they are called cheat days and usually as long as I go right back to healthy meals, they seem to help me lose weight. Fools my body. Good luck
  • I have berries every other day with my natural yogurt and honey, and I put fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice in my homemade salad dressing and sometimes lime or lemon in my water. I agree, it does seem to help with weight loss to avoid fruit. At the same time, an apple a day is not a bad thing either. I think moderation…
  • The brushing of the teeth is interesting. I have heard of that. I don't very often crave, probably because I make sure I have some of my cravings almost every day! e.g. I have one square of very dark chocolate after dinner with my 3 oz glass of red wine (both are supposedly good for you - antitoxins). And I use olive oil…
  • You seem to be eating pretty well. I'd also suggest a carb at breakfast, maybe some oatmeal with the yogurt and berries. Also, when I hit a plateau I added 3 walnuts and 1/4 avocado a day. It seemed to help. Good luck to you, you are doing great! j
  • I measure most things - otherwise I would guestimate on the high side. Good luck!
  • True, it's an individual journey. We can all learn from each other. Pick and choose what fits.
  • I mainly notice it when my pants feel looser and I have to go down a size. Also, I "feel" lighter -Haven't had to go down a pantsize but pants are a bit looser.
  • Perhaps you are at the right weight for you or very close to it? DId I read 4' 11" and 119.5 lbs?? I am short too but I can see for your height you may wish to lose a bit of weight, takes longer for us short ones I think. Are you using the exercise and calories tools provided on this site? I find they have been pretty…
  • Not offended - I think tho that men can eat more as a rule due to overall metablism and size and hormones. Best way is to average a slow and steady weight loss, and that varies person to person. Main thing - go DOWN not UP in weight, eat healthy, and exercise. Not a difficult theory, just sometimes hard to stay on track…
  • Thanks - i feel I am indeed judging it correctly. I don't eat the amount of oatmeal or pasta that is called 1 serving, but with veggies I find the more the better. I try to make sure my dinner plate is 3/4 veggies. For bread, I use 2 slices at 30 gms of weight per slice. I do feel tho that a larger person is lucky and can…
  • Reading the labels is a must - there is so much junk added even to what we think is healthy. eg gelatin in yogurt - that's why I prefer the higher fat yogurt, it doesn't need the thickener. My yogurt is made of skim milk, cream active bacterial cultures - it is 100 calories for 1/2 cup so it's high but I use 3 tbsps, 1/3…
  • I allow cheat days but they aren't scheduled - I thing one day a week is probably ok tfor most people. I tend to go by social occasions and find I am not so hungry anyhow these days with all this healthy eating. This weekend I am off to a sugar shack for a maple leaf breakfast - now that will be a cheat day but probably…
  • Measuring instead of weighing is a good tip. Sometimes even though not losing pounds we are losing inches. Good tip from Onvacation.
  • Thanks for the compliment and yes, I am 63. Darn, wish I'd eaten and exercised much better when I was in my 30's but I feel in my 30s now so that's what matters today! Good luck to all and glad to see there are so many who agree. I too like my olive oil, must post my favorite olive oil, lime and red vinegar salad dressing
  • Yes, best of luck! I know you can do this and adding cardio to weight lifting - guaranteed by eating right, cario and weights, you'll see a big difference. And to the Toronto Kid2, hi, I'm in Ottawa - you sound like you are doing great. Logging every day and putting in the exercise -really motivating!
  • Have you read The Fat Fallacy? After I read that, i changed my way of eating - I sttil did not manage to get to the weight I wish to be but I felt better and had way less craving for sweets or fats. However, eating that way and adding exercise daily - that's what has made this weight loss better. I love the way I can track…
  • Motivation is a funny thing, isn't it? Don't go for that pie, and don't be so hard on yourself. Just get moving. I live where it is very cold and often walking is not an option due to snow, ice, blizzards, whatever but I can always put on music and just dance. Music and dancing. I know for me, I can eat 12 to 1400 calories…
  • Try adding a bit of either avocado or a few nuts to each meal. Like you I stalled for at least 2 weeks, trying to do 12-1400 calories a day plus at least 1 hour of exercise a day (not heavy exercise, just walking, dancing). I am very pleased with this site. Lost 10 pounds since Jan 24th, 7 of those after joining here. But…
  • Right on! I have to weigh myself daily or I tend to forget to eat properly. I try to do it first thing in morning and I have lost 10 pounds in 8 weeks and am very please with this site. Joaniegray
  • This is one I got from a Rachel Ray show - it does have soy sauce and sherry which might be a problem for some but I find it quite tasty and probably nutritious - I don't know the calorie count. I use ww spaghetti or spaghettini. No more than 3/4 cup of pasta. Spanish Pasta Boil pasta and drain, enough for one or 2 people…
  • Almond butter would be fine. Also a half can of tuna as 15 gm and 1 serving of salmon is 18 gm. And eggs, I don't know how much in eggs but I try to fit those into lunches for the protein. And yes, for dinner chicken, fish. Joaniegray
  • I just started exercising before breakfast - that way I get 20 to 30 minutes right off the bat! Then I try to get a bit more in during the day - I do find if I do it right away before anything else, at least I get the minimum done. And I do cook my own soups sometimes - all the ideas above are great. thanks for all the…
  • Thanks for the post - you are right - eating healthy is expensive!! What do you try to eat that is healthy and cheap?? One of my favorites is plain (real) oatmeal with apple and a bit of brown sugar for breakfast or an egg on toast. I find both are filling and not terribly expensive. I made 2 servings of oatmeal (or even…
