  • Nice sensationalism.
  • I skimmed it. It doesn't really contradict or even address everything I said. As my last last sentence stated, that person's plan seems reasonable. If they want to match their water intake to other drinks, why not? Just because someone can stay hydrated drinking only soda or coffee, it doesn't mean they should.
  • OP is referring to triglycerides if the level is 975. It was probably that high because they ate a burger before getting the blood draw or they had terrible dietary habits and/or poorly controlled diabetes. If the drop to the current level was made with diet and exercise changes then it's unlikely to be another underlying…
  • Why would someone be doing an extremely low fat diet? That myth was busted a long time ago.
  • I don't think there is anything wrong with diet soda(I drink plenty), but there probably should be some concern with the potential effects on one's teeth and the displacement of liquid calcium sources. Drinking with a straw and continuing to get enough calcium from other sources can alleviate those risks, but it's probably…
  • I think people already know the answer to questions like this even before posting, but are hoping someone will come along and say it really is the magical holy grail of weight loss. Ask yourself a couple of questions before doing something like this: 1. It's called a detox. What EXACTLY are you being detoxified of? 2. Does…
  • That is not entirely true. There are important health benefits to eating fibrous and complex carb foods. One needs to consider the disproportionate insulin response(vs. glycemic load) that happens when eating refined carb sources. Totally disregarding that can help promote diabetes and dyslipidemia.
  • Bad form is bad for knees.
  • Chocolate chip cookie dough quest bars. 10-15s in the microwave = heaven.
  • It'll be the same length of time as any other method of eating that involves a caloric deficit.
  • It is irrelevant in terms of weight loss. You will still be doing an equivalent amount of work but it will be easier for you as your VO2 max increases. If you want to continue to push up your VO2 max then you need to up the intensity as your body makes those improvements.
  • Good thoughts and this is why HR is probably not the best variable to use in these formulas but it works fine for most people. This study(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12868043) suggests using net HR(activity HR - resting HR) or HR reserve(100 x [(activity HR - resting HR)/(maximal HR - resting HR)]) rather than HR to…
  • OP's question demonstrates the flaw with heart rate monitors in relation to calorie expenditure. Those formulas are imperfect and not ideal to compare two people. Use it as a personal progress check but that's all it is good for. The two people would burn the same amount of kcals but the untrained individual is working…
  • Being thin, it is probably normal that you feel a pulse in your stomach but you really should go see your primary care provider to rule out high blood pressure, AAA, etc. If you're stalling on your lifts then you need to examine your diet and form. Make sure you're getting enough protein to continually grow(~1g per lb of…
  • http://exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html is a great resource. You can search by exercise or muscle to see what is doing what. Ultimately if you want to get strong and functionally fit, you need to lift heavy with exercises that incorporate many muscle groups. Squats, deadlifts, bench, row, and overhead press should be staples.
