As of late my rest days consist of studying for my board exams. Blegh. Sometimes I'll do laundry though because I go through gym clothes like it's my job.

Ugh love Suzy her squat is perfection!! And yeah "heavy" is for sure subjective. As you get stronger, what you consider heavy should change. When I was starting out, I though 135lb squats were heavy and I couldn't picture deadlifting anything more than 200lbs. However, no I can bench a few lbs more than bodyweight for a…

Hi I'm Mara. I'm a relatively new powerlifter; started competing in May and started focusing on powerlifting at the beginning of last year. I compete in the USAPL and my highest total thus far is 287.5kg/633.9lbs. My meet maxes are S: 97.5kg/214.9lbs, Bench: 63.5kg/137.8lbs, and D: 127.5kg/281.1lbs. I hit 145lb bench in…

It's totally fine! I was just making a guess since they are the only deadlift shoes I know of with straps. And I thought I saw people wearing red ones at meets so I guess those are the new Goodlifts then!
-
I think those are Sabos, which are a pricy deadlift shoes. People like to squat in them too but peeps be different.

I like the "pretend I can't hear anything" approach. Put on headphones and if he comes over to you just pretend you can't hear or notice him over music. If he still pesters you then he's a dbag! But headphones are definitely a signal to be left alone.

Thanks! The goal is to get AT LEAST 315lbs by my next meet!

Agreed. Sumo is a lot harder than people make it out to be. I mean you may be reducing the range of motion of the pull but it takes a lot of patience to initially pull sumo off the floor and it's definitely more technical than conventional.
-
This is a loaded question... paused or not paused? I did 145lbs during my meet prep and that's the most I have ever done for 1 rep. I tried doing 148 for my meet but there was downward movement on the way up and then i couldn't lock it out. But I was close!
-
I like conventional because I can pull heavier with it haha. But sumo feels better for me and it's easier for me to maintain proper position with that so until my sumo is anywhere near my conventional, I will like conventional better lol.

Competed in my 3rd meet (2nd full meet) and went 8 for 9. Here's my favorite lift of the day, 6 lb all time PR and a 28lb meet PR of 281.1lbs/127.5kg. 300lbs is right around the corner!! https://instagram.com/p/BPkxzUehKAi/

I like my amino energy. Definitely gives me a good burst of energy!

Megsquats!!! Love her! Alan Thrall Althean X Buffdudes Omarisuf Jen Thompson. Smellybelly And...broscience lol

Haha that's hilarious!! I might just have to do that from now on when people pull shtick at the gym! As for the OP, belts are great but not something to be relied on 100% of the time. I only use mine if I'm going to squat or deadlift more than 80% of my 1 rep max--like someone else already mentioned. Also, if you do volume…

This image seems like a relevant response to what you said :D !

Ran a mock meet today. Deadlifts were super exciting for me today. 1st attempt was 235lbs, 2nd attempt was 245lbs and 3rd attempt was 265lbs for an 11.5lb PR! And because it was a mock meet I was all YOLO and decided to try 275lbs. It was slow and ugly but I locked it out and didn't hitch! I have to say today was a good…

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A_g-Vi4VHqA In case you can't get to a meet, here's an example of the format; this is the prime time from USA powerlifting's raw nationals. This is the cream of the crop of people in their weight classes. This will give you a good idea of the order of lifts, given commands, and the flight…

If there aren't any meets in your area, some people post full meet recaps on YouTube so you can observe commands and why a lift may have been red lighted. Also, if you know the fed you plan to compete in, it's extremely important to read their rule book! It gives the most thorough explanation about the rules of each lift,…

Haha luckily for me, I didn't leave any puddles on the floor XD! And if these parties are light I might have to invest in them. Not a fan of squatting in maxi pads they are too bulky meh!
-
Oh my god I did 190x4 squats a few weeks ago and peed a little on the last, good morning-looking rep! Luckily my spotter didn't notice lol :s

2016 was my last year of CrossFit. Rx'd some wods including 2 during the open and gained strength and endurance. Also trained for my first powerlifting meet and became hungry for more! Now I consistently train in powerlifting and am in love with how I grow stronger every day!! I recently started eating on a deficit so I am…

Haven't tested my 1rm for these in a while, but my 190lbsx4 squats puts me at advanced, my 253.5lb deadlift is "advanced", and my 130lbsx4 bench is "intermediate"! And I thought I was a bench specialist haha! :D

Unfortunately, the do-wins seem to only be available online, but the women's shoes are true to size. I bought my pair on muscledriver USA but they're out of business now (RIP :( ) so amazon is your best bet! They sell for 120$ on there, which is still cheaper than the majority of weight lifting shoes.
-
Haha how do you even have room for your belt jeez woman?!? I only keep my lifters and lever belt in my bag as well as emergency 1.25lb plates and a jump rope, and chalk is starting to get loose in my bag. Meep!!

I tend to change my shoes during workouts unless it's my bench/overhead press day. I wear my lifters for bench to aide in leg drive, and they help provide stability for OHP. Since I do heavy deadlifts and light squats on the same day, and light deads and heavy squats, I tend to alternate between my lifters and chuck…
-
For deadlifts, the closer the shoe is to barefoot the better. I wear chucks but a lot of people suggest something more supportive and stable. I heard a good alternative to more expensive shoes--such as sabos-- the reebok CrossFit TR lite is good. They look like chuck Taylor's but they have more longevity and are sturdier.…

I also hate when I'm going to golds gym and trying to get my pump on when. Arnold Schwarzenegger comes up to me and tries to motivate me/give me advice, but he is disguised really badly as some random gym employee. Stop it Arnold! We all know it's you! :D https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9LUv3kbmNfg

Yeah there was a girl I met at the last PL meet I did and she tweaked her shoulder training for an oly lifting comp. So she decided to switch to powerlifting. Go figure! Olympic lifters in general just amaze me. The majority seem so disciplined and dedicated to mastering technique... and they are somehow able to move super…

I think he works out at an oly lifting specific gym. But he mostly trains in Russia do not gonna run into him anytime soon. One of the gyms I frequent at has powerlifters and oly lifters as frequent clientele so it's always fun to see some really technically stunning snatches when you are resting between sets!
