Had a lovely Sunday and Monday. Took my granddaughter, Olivia, with me to a new church on Sunday. Thoroughly enjoyed it although I noticed the entire worship team was female. That made me wonder. I called the church office today and found out that the worship team includes both men and women. I'm glad! I'd have a hard time…

To all the newcomers, wow! There are a lot of you. This really is the best site you could come to for encouragement and motivation. Kackie, those compliments are so sweet to hear aren't they? Good for you for earning them. Michele, we're on the same page when it comes to what we like to eat and for disliking the added…

2201953 (Maxine), it’s funny how definitions of healthy eating vary. You might want to open up your food log and ask for suggestions. I don’t expect this is you…but….there was one gal (a young one too) on MFP who hadn’t lost weight in several months and was complaining about it because she was “eating so healthily.”…

I’ve just spent the past 2 hours trying to catch up with the posts. We ARE prolific posters. (Or, as Barb correctly says, gabby! ) I have missed you so much but have to give up on responding personally to each of you. I would like to say “Welcome” to all the newcomers. You have come to an amazing place for…

I’m back after a beautiful wedding on Hinkey Summit in Nevada. The temp was perfect – high 70’s with a light breeze. We were lucky. It could have been 100 and, in the clear, mountain air, that can be brutal. It also could have been windy. The winds had blown at 35 mph the evening before. The hills on the way up to the…

June goals: Lose 1-1/2 to 2 lbs a week: I lost about 6-1/2 pounds. Definitely slower than the first few months of the year, but expected because I’m lighter! Get half way to my weight loss goal: I came in within a hair – exactly half a pound in fact - of reaching my goal. I’ll claim that one anyway. :drinker:…

I see that I was all mixed up about Renny's b'day - so thanks everyone for getting me back in line. 59 is a great year...and so will be this next year when you're working on 60! It's wonderful to see you feeling so good, Renny. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: I think birthdays should be celebrated for at least…

I've tried many things for weight loss over the years, including a medically supervised fast and even a lap band. Anything can work - for the short term. The proof is in the long-term results. Most of these diet "aids" end up with the dieter gaining all the weight back and then some. I'm currently loving what I'm eating…

You have a great attitude and great results to show for it. I tried many of the other ways of dieting, including getting a lap band. Every time, I lost weight then gained it all back. Usually plus some. Now, I'm eating right (tons of veggies and fruit, good protein, plus minimally refined carbs). I feel great and love how…

nikhil_c8, you're right. HDL is the good cholesterol. I should have said HDL instead of LDL. I've never been on cholesterol meds and cholesterol has never been a big problem. When I last had it checked, in 2005, it was 217. That's 38 points higher than my current level. My HDL was about the same. My LDL (the bad stuff lol)…

I’ve been away for a couple of days and there’s a flood of posts! I’d like to say “Hi” to each one of you, but then I’d never post, and that would be a disaster (for me!)   I joined the gym a couple of days ago as my daughter’s nanny (!). It works out great. Just $30/month and I can leave the kids for…

One of the things I like about MFP is that it's helped me get over that all-or-nothing thinking. Tracking what I'm eating tells me whether I'm within my calorie goal or not. Now, I can see that a treat here or there, is fine as long as I'm still under target. I like seeing how exercise adds to my target calories too.…

You've received lots of good advice. I particularly like the idea of eating something before you get home. My secret weapon (which I make no secret of!) is veggies. If you have veggies and a low calorie dip already in the fridge, that would be easy and natural to snack on. If it fits into the kitchen schedule, you could…

The MFP friend I was worried about is back. She got swamped with “stuff” to do. I’m so glad. When you see somebody who’s done so well, it’s scary to think they might have gotten off track. That pattern is too familiar. Tiarapants, I’m glad you’re enjoying your “relatively free” day. You deserve it. You do a great job being…

MacMadame, there's so much going on, I don't think 5 minutes is going to do it! The nice thing is how we can just jump back in. You are such an inspiration. I'm glad you hang in there with us. Ainslieglen, I'm glad you're back in action! I missed you. Mary, I'm sending prayers for your mom and you. You are a caring…

Just dropping in for a minute... Barbie, I hear you about people thinking you're rigid. In my case, it's I who worry about coming across as rigid! I am getting more comfortable with it though as I realize how important it is to keep the momentum going. I don't want to weigh and measure when I go out to eat  , but I…

Welcome back, Kathy (Plantlady). 5 lbs lost when you're dealing with tough stuff is great. I'm glad you're back. I see so many posts that I can't respond to right now, but you're all in my heart! I had a nice weekend with my folks. And dang, it is hot! Over a hundred today. And to think, I was grousing about the…

Hello everyone, I got to meet my MFP friend Randy! We had a great time walking around a local mall (mostly outside so, no, we are not really mall-walkers). She is a dynamo. As you’ll see if you look at her new profile pic (rfsahae), my face is very red and she looks cool as a cucumber. That says it all. Oh,…

Robin (RJ), our posts crossed in the ozone somewhere. Congratulations on your progress. 140's is fabulous!!! You are way ahead of your goal, you amazing woman, you. Terri, awesome about the smaller size. You're a girl after my own heart. I love a bargain too. I forgot to mention in my last post that someone at the dinner…

Another beautiful, sunny day. Not too hot and not too cold. I could get used to this. Knowing Placerville weather, we’ll be in the hundreds way too soon. :glasses: My weight went up a few tenths last week. Yrghhh! :grumble: I was probably at my “driest” the last couple of weeks and more back to normal this week. I hate to…

Congratulations. You've achieved a lot. :flowerforyou: There are 2 women on a thread I love (It's for Women 50+ so I'm afraid you don't qualify!). But you might be interested in what they've done. Both have lost all the weight they wanted to (over a year now) but still actively participate in MFP. It helps them and…

I hear your frustration. You may have put your finger on it when you say that some days you forget to log things. Logging has made a big difference for me. Not only do I know when I've eaten more than my calorie target but I also know that eating an occasional treat is not grounds for considering myself a failure! If you…

Birdie, I just read your post and wanted to tell you I loved what you said... "I have nothing to “go off of” because I’m not “on” something. I’m simply living each day, in a new way and with a new perspective!" You have a great attitude. That's exactly what I want for myself. Congratulations again on the amazing job you've…

Tomorrow I pick up my new (to me) cross-country ski machine. I'm excited about it. Paid only $150. It typically sells for around $400. So a deal! I love a deal! I'm getting tired of the stationary bike so this will make a nice change of pace. It's been a crazy day, chasing after grandkids and taking them to dance class,…
-
I tried reading on the stationary bike but it was too jiggly and, heavens (!), I don’t have a TV. I was bored to death just peddling away. It’s torture enough without being bored. Finally, I discovered books on CD. I’m listening to a Robert B. Parker book and making myself stop listening when I’m done exercising. Getting…

Forgot to mention...veggies are wonderful grilled on the BBQ too.

I'm sorry you had such a tough time (and your DH of course). The good thing is, you may both end up healthier because of it - and your kids too. There's always a silver lining. Sometimes you have to look awfully hard for it. I don't have a cookbook to recommend but I can tell you what's worked well for me. I have the…

The only problem with reporting your weight more than once a week is that the tiny increments will be what shows up in your status on your My Home page. I have several MFP friends who are diligent about giving feedback when they see weight loss, or under calories, or exercise. Their feedback helps motivate me.

Hi, thought I'd chime in too. Your fruit intake looks good. Veggies not so good. A cup of broccoli is just 2 servings. I never used to like veggies. Now, I love 'em! Partly it's getting used to them. Mostly, it's cooking them so they're tasty. For me, veggies fill me up and satisfy me. If I know I'm going to be tempted, I…

Just a quick hello. I read all the posts and am dying to reply, but if I don't get the veggies and water in pretty soon, I'm going to be up all night peeing! Michelle, a resting heart rate in the high 40's is pretty crazy. You make me feel better. Obviously, it's working for you. It's just so different for me that I've…
