Mile 298: Camp - Follow a wide shallow curving valley.

Mile 279: Camp.

Mile 260: Camp in thickets.

Mile 251: Cross Great East Road and enter thickets on south side. Land slopes south.

Mile 241: Return to dell. Camp there. Attack of Nazgul at night. (Ack!) Injured, Frodo is carried on pony. Head south from dell.

Mile 240: Climb to top of Weathertop and enter the ruins of the watch Tower of Amon Sûl. See Black Riders on road below.

Finally getting back to this after falling off the wagon for a while... Mile 229: Reached foot of the Weather Hills. Camped there. Follow path south toward Weathertop: path is cunningly hidden and is edged with stones where land is open. Sam recites part of "The Fall of Gil-galad."

Mile: 213 Camp by a stream, among stunted alder trees. Moon waxing. Frost. Very clear. Can see crumbled ruins on Hills ahead.

Mile: 194 Camp in eastern part of the Marshes. See flashes of light in the east during the night (Gandalf on Weathertop).

Mile: 159 Head east. Ground dropping slowly. Quiet and peaceful.

Mile: 147 Camp in Chetwood, east of Archet.

Mile: 135 Reach Bree. Stay at The Prancing Pony. Meet Strider. Ponies stolen during night.

I tried to watch out for them, but the fog! It was horrible! Mile: 118 Ride north through a gap. Phew! Got away from there with Tom's help. :)

Mile: 114 In the Barrow Downs... Midday. Stop in a hollow atop a hill. Eat and fall asleep. Wake in fog, sun sinking.

I agree with all the advice above. Logging your food is key - it lets you see what you're taking in and where you can make improvements. Set small goals for yourself too - things that are a bit of a challenge, but not overwhelmingly big. Look at maybe 10 pounds at a time, or an extra 5 minutes of walking or an extra day of…

Mile 98: Reach Tom Bombadil's house. Stars are out (ca. 7 p.m.).

Mile 93.5: Merry finds path along bank of the River. Follow it east through wetlands.

Mile 82.8: On path in the Forest. Path climbs gently.

Mile 73 - Crickhollow - YAY!! Spend the night. "A Conspiracy Unmasked" I will leave Crickhollow soon after 6:00 a.m. Foggy. Ride ponies slowly. I never realized just how large the Shire is.

You're doing great Byrdiebee! I love the idea of climbing a mountain as you go up Weathertop, I'm now 63.8 miles... Farmer Maggot's house (yay!) and buildings: brick with thatched roofs, surrounded by a high wall cut by a wooden gate from the lane. Eat. (Est. time there: 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.: full dark when they leave).

61.5 miles. Edges of fields worked by Farmer Maggot.

54.3 miles Still in the trees, they stop for lunch (ca. 2:00 p.m.). Their singing is cut by the cry of a Black Rider, and they leave (ca. 3:00 p.m.).

44.8 miles. Wood more dense, and lane went lower, running in a fold of hills, with hazel on the slopes alongside. Pippin quickly becomes sleepy.

38.7 miles Go on in twilight. Begin to sing. (ca. 7:00 p.m.)

I'm now at 33 miles... Road ahead runs fairly straight and level. Behind them it curves slightly. BLACK RIDER. Sam and Pippin hide in a hollow. Frodo behind tree by road (ca.5 p.m.).
