Here's another vote for using C25K. It really works. I followed the program and now routinely run 5km 2-3 times a week.

I don't cheat. I would only be cheating myself. I've spent too much of my life being fat. No more time for cheating.

Lose weight in the kitchen, gain lean mass in the gym.

Hi. Congratulations on taking the first step: realizing that you have to do something about your problem. I started at 419 pounds and am currently down to 158.5 pounds. I worked hard and it took me about 15 months. The shot on the left is from June 23, 2013. The shot on the right is from September 7, 2013 at the finish…

When I started C25K at 212.5 pounds, I was afraid about various bits of loose flesh flapping all over the place on my legs, arms, chest, butt, etc. And they did flap. But I decided "screw it, I'm going to do it anyway." So I finished C25K and moved on to 5210K. The flapping has more or less stopped now, as I'm at 158.5…

I have spent decades being fat. Told I was fat by others, knew I was fat myself.

Good numbers. My first official 5K was 29:02.4. You beat me!
-
Right on. Congratulations on your progress!

I found it REALLY HELPED me to be "out" with my current weight and my weight goal. The more people around me (family, friends, coworkers, random strangers on the street (just kidding)) who knew about my goal made it harder and harder for me to not keep going. In the past when I've tried to lose weight I kept the numbers…

I've lost 1 Arnold Schwarzenegger and 1 automobile tire combined.

I was at a dinner party this weekend, and someone couldn't believe I hadn't had surgery. The "eat less, eat nutritiously, and exercise" option just didn't make sense. Oh well!

June 2013 to September 2014 -- 419 pounds to 162 pounds

Excellent news. Sincere congratulations on hitting that significant milestone!
-
Wow, good for you. I've only done 40km at one go myself (about 24 miles). Inspiring!
-
Congratulations! I'm a graduate of C25K myself--it really does work if you follow the program. 3 Days a week, doing the intervals suggested.
-
Congrats! (Don't see pics, tho) -- edited--there they are! Great results!

It's no dream. Enjoy.

For some reason, it is still acceptable to treat fat people with naked, open, public contempt. I totally hear your pain. I've spent decades sucking up that kind of abuse. Hearing the whispers when I walk into a room. Having people look at me with obvious disdain. Shouting insults at me on the street. Takes a toll. Now I've…

Excellent! It's harder than it looks--I know!

"Not that much?" You fricking *rock* for doing a half marathon! Kudos!!!!!
-
Yes! Enjoy the new dressing room experience! I'm with you in having a hard time reconciling my mental image of myself with my new reality. But new clothes do drive it home.
-
Excellent ! Roller coasters are new to me too--spent last Friday doing Canada's Wonderland. Enjoy!
-
Ha! Well I'm still getting used to my reflection in the mirror. And I look at these tiny waisted pants and can't fathom fitting into them--and then I do.
-
If I can do it, anybody can do it. Break your goal down into smaller goals, and just focus on each smaller one along the way.
-
Geez, I totally relate, dude.

Yes! Welcome to "onederland!"

Sincere congratulations on a more than 100 pound loss milestone. It's fun buying new clothes, eh?

Great to hear a story about a person overcoming adversity and succeeding in the face of it. Kudos!
