  • I do not have cheat days. Eating like that got me fat in the first place. I have modified the way I eat, for now, and for the rest of my life.
  • Instead, I'd ask the question like this: "Is it more reasonable to posit a natural explanation for the universe, or a supernatural one?"
  • Hi LilSecret. I'm living proof you can make progress towards seemingly impossible goals. My advice is to think in small goals. I am thinking in 10% steps towards my ultimate goal. Easier than facing the whole thing at once. If you want, friend me. I'm on every day and give feedback to all my MFP buddies. Frank
  • I walk every day. Usually around 8 miles. More on weekends. Took me about 10 months to work up to it. Has helped with my loss so far.

  • I'm eating a healthy, balanced diet with no weird injections, supplements, powders, potions, lotions or medicines. I log all my food. I weigh myself only once a week. I exercise daily. I attend my weekly weight-loss support group here in Toronto. Plus I've gone health-related gadget crazy. Been through two fitbits, several…
  • Started at 419lbs on June 23, 2013. This last Sunday, April 20 2014, I weighed in at 217.5 lbs. Still have 42.5 pounds to go. FTW

  • I'll "like" a daily log, and a weight loss post. I'll comment on a comment. I'll comment on a big milestone loss or log in streak. Having "likes" is better than having a million "good for you" posts on every activity, IMHO
  • Very inspirational. Congrats on doing it while still so young. You have your whole life ahead of you--grab it by the horns!
  • I make myself accountable by making public announcements of my goals and my progress. I have told my friends, my colleagues and my family about my commitments and I'm damned if I'm going to reneg on them. In the past, when I tried to "lose weight" I was private about it so I couldn't let anyone else down if I failed. Now…
  • The behemoth on the left weighs 419 pounds on June 23, 2013. The slightly-smaller behemoth on the right weighs 244.5 pounds on March 3, 2014. This past Sunday, March 30, I was 231.5 pounds, but don't have a photo yet.
  • Currently my only exercise is walking. I do it daily. I use a fitbit to motivate me. I think that exercise is a big part of any weight control program. The thing is to not hurt yourself!
  • I must be the rogue data point in here. I've been logging since June 23, 2013 and I haven't received a single mean comment.
  • This. My stalls have been due to: a) not accurately weighing/measuring food--allowing extra calories to sneak in b) not drinking enough water c) eating back exercise calories. I now do not trust the reported calorie burns very much anymore.
  • 182 lbs since June 23, 2013. No fad diets--just healthy, reasonable amounts of food and increased exercise.
  • I'm a super fat man who is taking his weight loss super seriously. And I'm old enough to know I don't know much about anything. My years of absolute certainty are decades behind me now, alas! Like you, I don't really get involved in the social side of MFP. I use it to log my food and track my progress. However, I have…
  • You can add me. I have 62 pounds to go and always need more weight-loss buddies. Frank (FTW37)
  • Inspirational work. You rock.
  • When I feel unmotivated I remind myself that the time is going to pass in any case. In a year's time, I would like to be further along towards my goal, rather than stalled out somewhere. And if the scale isn't moving, keep the faith.
  • I'm looking forward to the first time somebody wants to insult me and doesn't use the word "fat" in the insult. I swear, the first person who gets truly angry at me and calls me ugly or stupid or old (and not fat) will not get the result he/she expects. I'll be so happy! FTW
  • Logging serves several purposes for me. If I want to eat something, I log it first to see if it will allow me to stay within my macros. If not, I don't eat it. Logging allows me to see long-term trends in my eating habits. Logging gives me a feeling of self-control.
  • Congrats! You're doing so well!
  • Congratulations. Onward and downward!
  • It gets easier to comprehend as you move progressively from start weight to goal weight. I still have a long way to go, but I feel like a different person now. I'm happier. I have more energy. I'm not as angry at things anymore. I care more about my appearance. I can't wait until I get to the end. Feel free to friend me if…
  • I walk every day. I use a fitbit to track incidental walking, and my Garmin Fenix to track walks to/from work. Along the way I've also used Runtastic iPhone app and Runkeeper iPhone app to track walks. I briefly used the Zombies! Run! app, but stopped doing it. This spring I plan on finally doing C25K and starting to jog…
  • Hi: I agree that MFP offers a lot of amazing tools to help with the journey towards healthiness. What has worked for me so far: a) honestly and completely logging everything I put in my mouth. This was hard at first. b) Weighing only weekly (this prevents the problems of weighing daily. If I weigh daily and I'm down, I…
  • Hi. I started at 419 lbs and am steadily making my way towards my goal weight of 175 lbs. Feel free to add me as a friend. I log in every day and I will not fail to meet my goal.
  • Hi Rebecca: I've been there myself. In 2001 I "successfully" dieted from 319 to 249 pounds. I was so pleased with myself I promptly gained it all back and more--topping at 419 pounds. It's taken me since June to get down to 245 now, and still have 70 pounds to go. In the words of Victor Laszlo: "Welcome back to the fight.…
  • I started off with the fitbit One, but found it a pain to take on/off to monitor my sleep. I agonized over the decision between the Force and the Flex, and finally decided on the Flex, because: a) I already wear a watch, and don't need another one b) the Flex was a bit smaller and unobtrusive for me I love having my Flex…
