  • Did it. Liked it. :)
  • That's Krav Maga to a tee. Check out one of the centers in your area. They also frequently offer women's classes for those who are a little anxious about being in mixed classes.
  • Self-defense is arguably more about risk avoidance and conflict resolution study. I would suggest you read more from authors like Rory Miller if SD is what you really want. If you really mean that you want to train physically some skills that will increase your physical fitness while offering some useful combat skills, I'd…
  • Cook some lean meat like a sirloin steak or a chicken breast in a pan yourself. You'll be able to stay under 600 calories easily and you can fill yourself up with vegetables like broccoli, etc.
  • By the way, I'm assuming the $6 oats you're referring to is an imported brand like McCann's Irish. Yes, those metal cans can be pricey. Depending on your location, you may be able to find cheaper options like buying an alternate brand or even at the bulk foods bin. I pay about $1.29 US a pound for my steel cut oats which…
  • It can make a difference for diabetics. The steel cut oats take longer to break down into sugar since it is in a less processed form than rolled or instant oats which is obviously a good thing if you are insulin resistant. For non-diabetics, there is no advantage other than texture, depending on your tastes there.
  • Done. :)
  • Haven't done today's session yet, but this challenge (along with my deficit eating) is working well for me. I've lost > 6 lbs since we've started.
  • Same reason why I don't like complicated step aerobics. I'm sure you can get a good cardio workout from them, but there's so much upfront investment in learning the choreography. Nah. I'd rather do something like Les Mills Body Combat - IMO it's a lot easier to get into if you're a guy with average coordination and memory.
  • I think it's a reasonable enough plan coupled with eating at a calorie deficit. The Bob Harper dvd is quite tough IMO and should be a great strength workout for most anyone who is not a weight lifter.
  • Did the whole video also. The surrenders never seem to get easier for me.
  • An underrated one is Melt It Off. This is a light medicine ball workout with former USA gymnastics gold medalist, Mitch Gaylord. The workout will give you functional strength and you can increase the difficulty by upgrading the medicine ball to a heavier one. I also like bodyweight exercises, so You Are Your Own Gym and…
  • Well...that was unpleasant. :) Glad it's not as long as NMTF!
  • I will also recommend BFBM and NMTZ for your evening slot. They're no joke.
  • I do it as well. I use a quarter scoop of Pure Protein Vanilla Cream in my bowl of oatmeal.
  • Thanks for the support, Nicci!
  • Black beans have the most favorable ratings if I recall correctly according to the Eat to Live book by Dr. Fuhrman. Something about glycemic index and glycemic load and the dark pigmented skin being loaded with beneficial natural chemicals... Heck if you're not watching your carbs, all beans are pretty much great for your…
  • I am substituting an hour long group class of Les Mills Body Combat that I attended instead of doing Shred Level 1. I feel a little badly about changing things up - I had intended to do both, but it is late here and I'm sleepy.
  • I needed to have quadruple bypass surgery. I had 99% blockage in two of my arteries. I hadn't had a heart attack yet before I was diagnosed luckily, but my cardiologist said it was just a matter of time as I was a ticking time bomb. I don't blame it all on being overweight and eating unhealthy - I have heart disease…
  • I don't 'punish' myself for it by exercising more, unless I just feel like it. I think that is an unhealthy corrective behavior. What I will do is pledge to myself that it won't happen 2 days in a row and I adhere more tightly to my calorie & macro limits the next day.
  • Did another DVD: Thirty Minutes to Fitness: Muscle Definition and then rounded it out with another ten minutes of kicks and punches.
  • Did the entire DVD. This is definitely the toughest workout IMO out of the ones in the rotation... unless Shred Level 2 is worse.
  • Kinda wish I had measured myself, but I don't have a tape measure handy... All I have is weight - I weighed 196 lbs when we started on Day 1.
  • The plyometrics really killed me tonight. It's odd when you are looking forward to jumping jacks and jump ropes for your 'recovery' phases. :)
  • Forced myself to do the routine and I'm glad I did.
  • Yep, that was a tough one. Someone please tell me Shred Level Two isn't as bad.
  • Finished day 2. Thirsty! Chalk me up as another that has never done No More Trouble Zones. Looking forward to it.
  • I prefer steel cut oats. They have a chewier texture and take longer to break down in your system which is good if you are diabetic. The regular rolled oats have the same quality relative to the instant oatmeal though obviously not as great as steel cut oats.
  • Finished day 1 and did a few burpees and mountain climbers to round out 30 minutes. Tired but invigorated. I used 10 pound weights and am not ashamed to say I'll drop down to 5 lbs next time. :)
