  • Weight training is super beneficial - it helps prevent bone loss, muscle burns more calories at rest than fat... the list goes on. You don't need to wait to start, it will only help you towards your goals. The biggest thing I personally would note from all of this is: Muscle takes up less space than fat so be sure to take…
  • personally I have never been a night eater. I have never woken up and rummaged through a cupboard or the fridge. I have gone on the computer before but that is super rare - like we're talking once or twice in the last 5 years. If I am headed to sleep I am one of the luck ones that will sleep through the night soundly. If…
  • I don't think it's impossible but I agree it could be more that you are needing to tighten your belt on logging, weighing, measuring. Depending on the hormone make up of the pill you are on it may very well make it more difficult, but it would not be impossible. Nothing is impossible
  • Knowing that she wants to change her habits is extremely positive. Have you tried something like Weight Watchers? Given the support group and the accountability of meetings it might be the right way to ease her into the process as you've stated this has been a long standing weight problem. WW seems to be focusing more on…
  • If I was only eating that all morning I would be SO HUNGRY by the time lunch rolled around. I find, personally, that a more substantial breakfast helps me stay on track throughout the day because it "sticks with me" longer. I am less likely to reach for a garbage lunch/dinner if my morning is stacked a little stronger.
  • My entire left calf is tattooed, I often forget it's there until I am in the shower then it's like...oo! Pretty!!
  • Always game for more friends, they help light a fire when you're feeling less than motivated !
  • I think it's that we are more set in our ways and less motivated to change as we age. I think if we are honest with ourselves and really put the effort in, we can achieve anything. It's only hard because we are telling ourselves it's hard.
  • I would probably die without my morning coffee. I drink it black now, but before starting my weight loss adventure I would have huge calorie laden Starbucks creations. I went cold turkey and now I can't imagine my coffee being sweet or creamy. Try it, you never know you might actually like coffee black like I do!
  • I make one that is primarily spinach - very green B) 1 tbsp nut butter 2 or 3 cups spinach 1 scoop vanilla protein powder 2 cups unsweetened almond milk 1/2 or 1 banana
  • You're giving him all of your power. You are angry at him and still investing your time and precious energy into someone who is not bettering you. Cut all ties, wash your hands of this experience and start spending energy on yourself and making you happier. You deserve it!
  • Girl: "In casual context, the word has positive uses, as evidenced by its use in titles of popular music. It has been used playfully for people acting in an energetic fashion or as a way of unifying women of all ages on the basis of their once having been girls. These positive uses mean gender rather than age." So now that…
  • Just don't give up - Personally as a female, 5'11" eating around 2000 calories works for me if I am not exercising. If I exercise I have to eat more or I will literally gnaw off my own arm in the mornings I am so famished. I still lose weight when I up my calories on workout days (because I am simply eating back those that…
  • this article will change your whole perspective on why you "can't" strengthcoachtaylor.ca/uncategorized/the-brutally-honest-6-reasons-you-are-still-overfat/
  • It's possible stopping those workouts is the cause for the scale creeping up :o Nothing in life is easy, at least not the things we really want!
  • toast with half an avocado and a ripe red tomato with a side of black coffee
  • First off, you are beautiful! Second, I agree with others, unfortunately spot reduction is not possible. If you clean up your diet, eat whole foods, drink lots of water and make sure you are at a deficit the pounds will come off from everywhere. Patience is key  (I say eat whole foods/drink water because I know for…
  • I have found this youtube page to be extremely motivating, not just in my weight loss journey but with life as well. https://youtube.com/channel/UCpmZQGTZXn9xd4nN59pbIWQ/videos They are inspiring and kind of just make me want to go out and take charge. Ps. Friends request sent - I too gained back a bunch of weight I lost…
  • Sorry, I don't quite follow - being short does not make losing weight harder. Neither does it make losing weight easy if you were tall. I am 5'11" and would say I struggle with weight loss just as much as the next person, regardless of their height.
  • This site and this plan is a FANTASTIC starting point. There are videos for all the exercises and it is a real beginners guide. Good luck! bodybuilding.com/fun/the-ultimate-30-day-beginners-guide-to-fitness.html
  • I managed to get a really bad cold a couple days before my first Tough Mudder (Sept 2014) I am also asthmatic so the cold made my symptoms flare up. I was also in the worst shape I could have been going in, I literally stopped training after my Spartan Sprint in July of the same year. (Don't ask me why, I have no idea, I…
  • Are you wanting to do calorie counting because you aren't losing weight on WW? If that is the case then I would say you should try to be more diligent with your measuring/weighing of foods and this will help push you in the right direction (it may be that you aren't properly tracking other foods too not just the fruit and…
  • The fact that you are eating minimally processed food (you cook for yourself and it looks super yummy too!) is a huge advantage. Loading up on the veg will give you more bang for your calorie buck any day. I agree weighing your food instead of using measuring spoons/cups will ensure better accuracy but if you are…
  • Food Pushers - they are hard to deal with and we can all be that person too. It's important to remember our goals in the end and make choices based on them.
  • I chop mine into cubes (don't even peel it) and toss it in the acti-fry with rosemary, garlic and a touch of salt/evoo. Pretty much as effortless I can make it and always turns out delish!
  • It's really unfortunate that you felt self conscious and stopped doing your squats. :\ People are lame but we shouldn't let a stranger dictate what we do or how we feel about ourselves. Men stare, women stare. Just try not to worry about what others think and keep moving closer to your goals. You are the only person that…
  • I agree, this seems an effective way to manage your time and build a well rounded fitness plan
  • So the highly reliable internet *sarcasm* tells me this: A blood taste or metallic taste in your mouth after exercise can be caused from a variety of things, although the precise cause -- unless it is tied to some underlying health condition -- may largely remain a mystery. From asthma to lactic acid, old fillings in your…
  • I find buying beans/rice/grains in their dry forms (no cans, no microwave for 2 mins and it's ready, or "minute" versions) saves a lot of money. A bag of dry chickpeas can be a couple of dollars and makes heaps more than the same dollar amount of canned beans. Same goes for rice, much cheaper if you buy a big bag that…
  • I like unsweetened almond milk as an alternative to cow milk.
