  • Sorry if these were already answered... Q1) are VO2 max and calories burned directly proportional or inversely related? I.e. to ensure an underestimated calories burned calculation, should I try to estimate my VO2 max higher or lower than actual? Background: I am using a Polar HRM primarily for calculating calories (sorry…
  • Thx, moepwr! I cant imagine being gluten free, although i am learning to live with a lot less bread...not easy, I love it! It"s just so high in calories! I'm amazed at how many people I know are gluten free lately. And what about all the poor folks that reacted to gluten in previous generations that probably pulled their…
  • Jilly - Protein calc: 160# / 2.2 = 73kg. Sedentary - 0.8g/kg * 73kg * 4cal/g = 234 cal / 1500 cal = 15.6% protein for lower limit. Athlete/Body Builder - 1.8 * 73 * 4 = 525 cal / 1500 = 35% In between - 1.3 * 73 = 95g of protein * 4 = 380 cal / 1500 = 25.3% Hmmmm. 25% is what I got for myself too. :) B
  • Hi Jilly, I've had the same question lately too. So here's my take - sorry for the dissertation ;p I started MFP about 2 months ago, and completely changed my diet. I have been trying to eat healthy but my macro percentages are way off what MFP recommends: Instead of 15% protein, I'm usually 20%-25%. Instead of 30% fat I…
  • I guess my question would be along the lines of the original question for this thread, which I don't think has really been answered yet. What are acceptable ranges for macronutrient percentages? The default setting for MFP is 15% protein 30% fat 55% carbs. However, my new healthy diet (5 weeks worth) seems to come in at…
  • How can that be right (1g protein per # & 0.5g fat per #)? I am 235 #, my goal is 200 #, my net calorie goal is 2,020 to lose a pound a week. 200 # * 1 g/# = 200 g * 4 cal/g = 800 cal of protein per day 200 # * 0.5 g/# = 100 g * 9 cal/g = 900 cal of fat per day That's 1,700 calories per day, without any carbs. That would…
  • Ok. Thanks for the replies. ;)
  • If it is relevant, I am 45, male, 245#, sedentary, trying to get to 200# in 6-9 mos. Exercise to be 30 minutes cardio 3 times a week to start. Maybe weight lifting twice a week. Thanks for any advice!
