So glad there's a shout-out to this! I'm currently enrolled in the Nutrition for Health Promotion & Disease Prevention class. A lot of it is stuff you'd probably know if you frequently research health and nutrition, but I've learned a few interesting things from it as well. I'm also taking The Fiction of Relationship and…

I totally understand what you are going through, Talim. When I was younger I had similar struggles with my highly controlling father. He and I became different, largely because of my diet (I became a vegan, which he absolutely did not approve of) and the fact that I decided I was not going to follow his chosen career path…

I just took some before pictures too! Good luck on the shred and we can't wait to see the "after"! :)

I agree with everyone else that there is no need to make it too complex! If you still want to be on the healthier range of the spectrum, here are a few tips: 1) Limit any kind of processed food, or foods from restaurants. You'll probably notice these are really high in calories and sodium. 2) Make sure to eat several…

Thanks for the helpful explanations, guys! kdeaux, I do not have a large frame. I also, up until recently, basically had negligible muscle mass due to inactive lifestyle. I have a little bit now but it's nothing to sneeze at. I really do have too much body fat right now. So I think I will try for some weight loss, then…

I am so happy potato chips are junk food because I couldn't care less if I never ate them again!

In my opinion Pita Pit is roughly as healthy as Subway, which is not much. :( So I just get a salad when I go there, and get it with the hummus or black bean. That's really unfortunate that the sauce is pure oil! It's probably a pretty cheap oil too.

Peach pits and bitter almonds are actual real natural food, but if you sit around eating them all the time you'll die from the cyanide. It's important for people to note that just because something comes straight from a whole food, it doesn't mean that it is what the body will be healthy consuming. Juice is fiberless and…

You make two contradictory statements: one, that it is important to avoid acidic things so that you do not lose tooth enamel, and two, that soda is not bad for your teeth. Soda IS acidic and has a very low pH: Coke, for example, has a pH of 2.52. To put this in perspective, water has a pH of 7 and battery acid has a pH of…

Beans 'n' barley. Like beans and rice but toothier! I threw in black beans, spinach, garlic and matchstick carrots. Fruit salad with watermelon and berries. And stir-fry with carrot, broccoli slaw, mushroom, onion and kale over brown rice.

Eat fruit! :)

RllyGudTweetr, I think what they were trying to say is that vegans and vegetarians see animal consumption as unethical because it harms an animal. So it is difficult for many of us to 'respect' the decision of a meat eater because we inevitably think of the animal as well. Vegetarians/vegans generally see animals as of…

I find that when I eat anything from a restaurant or from a box or can I have difficulty staying under my sodium limit. When I cook my own food, I stay well under the limit.

I am a vegan for animal-rights reasons. I believe that our current system of farming animals is abusive. That said, I understand that everyone has their own ideas on morality and I do not wish to impose my moral system on anyone.

I have to agree with those who would say it is best to just avoid fast food places entirely. I would only go to a place like that if, for example, I was with a group of friends going out to eat and it was the agreed-upon option; then I would look at their nutrition facts online and get something as healthy and low-cal as…

Wow! No idea you can overwork yourself this much. I don't feel so bad about easing into exercising now. It does seem like all of the labels for the product imply that this is intended for someone who is already fit and active though; I would never try it if I was not already a gym rat. It does seem like this guy was not in…

I drink a cup or two of decaf if I'm in the mood for it each day, but I think I could easily quit if I felt a want or need for it. I drink for the taste, not for the energy (caffeine makes me jittery and uncomfortable).

Didn't know that fat helped with the conversion! Thanks for the tip. I do eat fats but I have not in the past taken care to make sure they're in the same meal as vitamin A-rich foods. I will watch out for that.

I feel so bad for everyone with unsupportive SOs. I understand some guys just like curves better but there is no reason to be mean or do things like compare you to someone else! Eek. With my husband, it has been -slightly- rocky, though it's not his fault. When he met me, I was quite slim and he LOVED it. I had never been…

I have to admit that I do hide my dieting as well. I have a friend at work who, in the past when I've tried to eat healthily, intentionally waved temptation in my face (she would open up Oreos or a bag of Pringles and just leave them sitting by me). It's not out of malicious intent, she just thinks that bingeing is…

Oh, gotcha. As a vegan I don't eat things like liver, so I should be all set :) it's probably good that I'm getting extra since the conversion rate is inefficient.

Good to know it's not uncommon, and that vitamin C does not lead to overdose! Thanks for the suggestion, pstireman. I have noticed a few times that when I enter something it is slightly different from what the label said; I try to look for the exact name brand product so this error is avoided. Still, mistakes can happen.…
