Like Pinkylee, I have seen studies that show the opposite idea - that soy might (possibly, not definitively) have a protective effect against breast cancer. That said, I occasionally rotate out soymilk and drink almond milk, oat milk, etc. I just believe in variety in general, and being the tofu-eater that I am I don't…

I have lost a human skin! o:

I avoid sodas and carbonated beverages because I have worked at a dentist's office and know that it is absolutely horrific for your mouth, all sugariness aside. Aside from that, not really. There are foods I eat very sparingly because they are highly processed and not nutritional, but I don't have any hard rules. As far as…

I think the main thing about eating clean is that it's easier to limit 'clean' foods than it is to limit 'unclean' ones. When I eat things like cookies or fast food, I have an urge to eat a lot more than when I'm given an apple or spinach. 'Clean' foods are also less calorie-dense. Ever tried to eat 2000 cals of kale? It's…

Try substituting green tea! Contains caffeine, but undeniably healthy and also in more reasonable quantities.

* Cady from Mean Girls gave you some 'diet' bars to eat that actually promote weight gain

As someone who gained 30 lbs on depo, I highly recommend staying off of it as well! That stuff is bad news.

How about a vegetable stirfry with brown rice? Mmm. Or a fruit salad.

This is definitely true in the case of men who are basically verbally abusive but there is some middle ground here. For example, my husband told me that he prefers how I look when I am more slender but he loves me no matter what. He basically nicely asked for me to lose weight, but said that it was my choice and he would…

I like kale, but I have to admit my favorite green is swiss chard! Swiss chard is less common and definitely more expensive though, so kale is a good stand-in. I second the motion that kale chips are amazing. They do have a 'green' taste, but it's subtle and they really develop a great crunch.

I really adore this. I do agree with the idea that some people are 'looking' for the pushy vegan stereotype. I have been compared to a member of PETA while explaining why I do not like PETA's viewpoints and how I find them detrimental to animals! Some people will place you in a box no matter what. That said, the little…

I only use nature's diet foods - i.e. fruits and veggies :) Otherwise I use 'the real deal'.

I think the idea that people have when they suggest fruit and vegetables are "free" is that it will be an incentive for people to eat more of those foods, which is good because they're so wonderful for you. It doesn't help much when you're counting calories though, because you might incorrectly estimate your intake.

Have you tried any fake meat? A veggie burger or some faux 'chicken' can take the edge off of cravings :)

I'm a vegan. I don't keep my carbs down; I just don't eat refined grains. So my carbs come from beans, veggies, fruit and whole grains. I eat fruit, lots of one-pan dishes like beans and rice and stirfry, salads, burritos, etc. My general formula for a meal is to just get a huge amount of veggies and serve it with a bit of…

Fruit and nuts are wonderful as a snack. Buy pre-chopped veggies so you can easily make stir-fries, salads and other recipes. Fake meats are also fun to try. I like the Boca and Gardein brands pretty well; Gardein has fun novelty foods like 'ribs' and 'chicken tenders'. Boca has burgers and 'chicken' patties that are…

I agree with the previous poster that a fruity dessert would be a good way to get started because it is generally perceived as healthier and you can tackle it more courageously. A berry pie on a graham cracker crust with some sugar and cinnamon dusted on it would be a really easy way to get started. Or maybe you could eat…

I like the green ones but the black ones are too salty for me.

For the sweet potato, bake it like you would a baked potato and eat it that way. You could mash it too. Another good idea is to make healthy fries by cutting the potato into a fry shape, tossing with seasonings, placing on an oiled baking dish and baking at 425 F until crispy. :) For eggplant, I really like to chop it up…

Oh my gosh, I had no idea raspberries were one cal apiece. I am going to have to get some, lol!

MFP doesn't take into account processed vs. unprocessed sugars. Eating multiple servings of fruit a day is definitely not bad for you; eating multiple servings of things like bleached rice or candy definitely is. I say as long as the sugars come from a good place and you eat a balanced diet do not worry.

Okay, I will go more slowly then. ^^ Thank you all for the recommendations!

I have it set to 1 lb/week.

Hi there, I've been a vegan for nearly four years! Please let me know if you need any help with anything.

Maybe you could get a copper IUD? It makes sense since you NEVER want kids and they last 10 years... and the copper one is nonhormonal so it probably won't interact with grapefruit juice.

They are both wonderful! I particularly like The Fiction of Relationship, but I'm also an English literature major so that heavily contributes. There is quite a lot of reading involved, but in my opinion it is really worth it.

I agree with those who would cook it in broth and add the veggies of your choice! I really think couscous go well with onions, garlic, peas and squash, but pretty much anything you want to throw in there would be delicious.
