I only throw my Vibram Five Fingers in the regular washer (in zipper bags for delicates). I air dry them though. They turned out fine (much cleaner actually). Otherwise, I wash all my other running shoes by hand and sun-dry them like raisins. ;)

Thanks, I think the calorie count is inflated because my vivofit is not paired with a HRM (my Garmin 620 pairs with it though) so the calorie burn is less accurate than it would be if it were paired with a HRM. Plus, I'll look at what it says I burned and it's way beyond what Runkeeper estimates (which is higher than what…

Almond milk & coconut milk are way healthier than cow's milk (less fat, calories, GMOs, etc). Plus, you can even make your own almond milk! How awesome is that? I learned I was lactose intolerant, gave up cow's milk, switching to almond/coconut milk, and lost a lot of weight, partly by giving up dairy. Plus, if…

I use my jacket and/or running short and/or pants pockets, phone armband, Nathan vest pockets, or Nathan hydration belt pockets.

Coffee before long run (1 cup)-RUN-coffee again (unlimited quantities). (Oh, and caffeinated Clif Bar during long run too). ;D

Take it nice and slow: alternate run:walk:run as needed, walk to catch your breath or when you get tired then run again. Jeff Galloway has a 5k training app for $3.99. Galloway helped me learn run:walk:run which works well for asthmatics like me. And don't doubt yourself for being a sprinter. One of my best friends was a…

COOL! I'm in, vivofit counts my steps anyway and I always have a slacker day once/week where I'm under 10,000 steps. This should help!

Since my running streak will reach will hit 180 days next month, I'm in for 180 miles to celebrate! ;)

Put the coconut oil in your kale smoothies (with coconut milk & almond milk) and DRINK IT! I cook with it too, even scrambled eggs-gives 'em an awesome TROPICAL flavor! :glasses: It's great with mango. I even brushed mahi-mahi with it before cooking it this week. Don't make me drool over coconut oil at work when…

Kinesiology tape (KT tape), I use it when needed. Rest-Ice-Compression-Elevation (RICE).

Yes, very excited! Stoked!

Thanks! Looks like I started using it March 20 (part day) then March 21 was first full day, so barely more than a month. Love it despite some very minor inconveniences (mainly lack of lighting...and failure to sync/connect with MFP directly).

I've never run an ultra (yet) but am training for a 50k as you know. I think that's probably good advice to try a 6 hr race first. Also, one of my best friends is an elite ultrarunner in NYC (he won the 6-day race last year and was featured in a 2-page spread in ESPN Magazine), former American national champ in either the…

So many helpful, supportive, wonderful runners here, feel free to add me, I'm a marathoner training for my first 50k. :glasses:

SunWarrior Vegan Chocolate Warrior Blend is my favorite (available at HyVee or Amazon).

No, but... I would decline friend requests from any ex-girlfriends for obvious reasons! ;)

HOW did I miss this thread??? Check out: Don't Fight It! Kenny Loggins & Steve Perry duet (high-throttle & high-cadence speedy running song)

Howdy! My goal is set at 2850 and I'm usually under. I run a lot but love to eat, too! Feel free to add me if you like. (My food diary is open, forgot to say that.)

I wear a vivofit (Garmin equivalent of a fitbit, pairs with Garmin Connect like Garmin watches do, it's just a different tab) and love it! Weekly step contests against some people I know and some that I don't! My wife loves her fitbit flex. They do work but I think both exaggerate the calorie burn. HRM will give you more…

My mix: try Balance bars (dark chocolate and/or dark chocolate w/ coconut), Kind bars, Kind+ bars, Larabars, Zone Perfect, & "This Fig Walks into a bar" series (Trader Joe's).

As a chocoholic, I sympathize with your situation. I've retrained myself to only eat dark chocolate (usually 85%-90% or so). I usually buy the 85% dark bars at Trader Joe's. It satisfies your desire for chocolate without going to crazy if you consume it in limited quantities (1/2 bar limit for me). You can buy dark…

Lincoln, Nebraska. Wow lots of Iowans in this thread!

Our daughter runs with Girls on the Run and they are all about beautiful, colorful tutus, boosting kids' self-esteem, and rising to the occasion. This is self-evident: #tutusrock! And cancer survivors are heroic! how can anyone deny this??? Self should permanently rename itself SELFLESS to make up for it. Permanently!

I need help with the same issue: what shoes work best for running trails? running a trail 50k (25 miles on gravel/limestone, rest on pavement) in October and I'm not even a trail runner officially yet). Rotating Mizuno Wave Runner 17s and Brooks Pure Flow 3 now. I know Five Fingers are not always ideal for trail situations…

You will gain weight on the cruise-almost impossible not to from my experience. Try to be as active as possible-run/walk/cardio. You should be able to run on the ship (carefully!). If I cruised again I would count my steps (maybe exploring every square inch of the ship) and force myself to eat less. Enjoy it and have fun!…

Howdy forties people! I'm a 45er crazy marathoner in Nebraska. I log every day and take nutrition & fitness very seriously. Feel free to add me. Happy to connect with more people in my age group. :glasses:

I try to awaken by 5-5:15 so I'm usually running by 6am. I am a morning person. I coffee up before every running (that helps me). Also try to grab a snack before (mango! mango! gummies by Trader Joe's current fave). But really the key is going to sleep as early as possible to get adequate rest. The rest is repetition of…

After running 13 full marathons, I FINALLY bought the 26.2 sticker for my car. I've earned the "DNF" sticker but would never display it. Too embarrassing although I learned a lot from that marathon DNF. Heck yeah, it's ok to get a bumper sticker if you walk some of the race! Are you gonna say that all of us "Galloway"…
