  • "We are the Knights who say NI" And every marathoner's favorite: "I'm not dead yet!"
  • Yes-saying howdy from Lincoln, my sister lives in Bellevue where you live.
  • I try to at a minimum eat 1 ClifShot Gel-I like Razz flavor-(or a Honey Stinger waffle) before running to prevent muscle cramping in my calves and to get a tiny calorie boost. Also, sometimes a cup o' joe (coffee) if I have time, otherwise water.
  • Virtual running communities on Google+ (there's a running one with 12,000+ runners). But I benefit more from the small private ones-a lot more one-on-one interaction & help when you need it.
  • Hi Mark, I've had asthma for the past 35 years. I struggled with it a lot when I was younger. However, with a lot of education, experience, good treatment from a doctor, and proper medication, I'm now a serious marathoner (run shorter races too but marathons are my running passion). I would recommend some of Jeff…
  • Here are a few: Trail Runner Nation, The Extra MIle (& The Extra Mile: Galloway edition w/ Jeff Galloway), and RunRunLive 3.0, Nutrition Diva is my favorite nutrition one. I use "Galloway method" aka "Gallowalking" with my running/training so the Jeff Galloway podcasts are very helpful/interesting to me.
  • KT TAPE: LOVE IT! Use it almost daily. Have tested it running marathons to stabilize knees, have also used with feet, hamstrings, calves, etc. Very helpful. One of my "runner secret weapons" but I'm trying to dispel the secrecy and spread the word. Runner Unleashed has great info on this on Facebook if you need a KT Tape…
  • Interesting thread. We adopted a daughter from China and have spoken with her about our ancestry and hers and how she would like to describe herself (i.e., Chinese-American or how). She nailed it with "Dad, I'm half Chinese but I'm all-American!" Couldn't have said it better myself.
  • I'm usually up somewhere between 4-5am to run. Try going to bed earlier, wear your running clothes to bed. Set your alarm to wake you up with a song that starts out loud if you have that capability (Any Way you Want it by Journey and Beautiful Day by U2 are two of my faves for waking me up fast). Move your alarm some…
  • Vitatop Vitamuffins (especially deep chocolate flavor), 100 calories, very high in fiber-don't eat one BEFORE a workout! save for AFTER!
  • Hi Lisa. Fellow asthmatic runner here. I have my good & bad days with asthma too. Kind of depends what your asthmatic (and/or allergic) triggers are (e.g., pollen & mold counts, etc.).Are you sensitive to pollen & mold? I try to move my runs indoors to treadmill when I know pollen & mold counts are super-high. Or I…
  • (Just happened to me today)-You are in the middle of a long great run (10 miles) and your Garmin suddenly says:" Lap Distance full, Delete Oldest laps." so Garmin stops recording the correct mile splits but fortunately you have Runkeeper on to take over without missing a beat. I'd show you a photo of the message but can't…
  • Played a little bit of baseball (not my sport) & swimming. Played football growing up until my doctor told me I was too lightweight to keep that up so took up running and poured all my energy into it. Ran track in jr. high & HS (long distance & 2mi relay) & X-country (captain of XC team in HS). Also played BB (terrible…
  • Throw kale in the blender with coconut oil, quinoa, flaxseed, chia, frozen fruit, vegan protein powder, unsweetened almond (and/or coconut milk), and a tiny splash of fruit juice and you have an amazing KALE smoothie. Or make the (All HAIL) KALE salad (love it with raspberry vinaigrette), the champion salad in my book!…
  • Could be exercise-induced asthma if it is your lungs (or asthma and/or bronchitis of some sort)? I'm asthmatic so I've experienced all kinds of interference in breathing from exercise (and from pollen, etc.). Talk to your doc, describe your symptoms, & go from there.
  • This is a tough situation. Going through a similar struggle with my wife of almost 20 yrs. She runs sometimes (maybe 1-2X/week), doesn't work out much, eating too much junk food. I'm under doctors orders to change my diet & nutrition, lower my cholesterol, & lose weight and sometimes she is supportive of that but much of…
  • FEAR THE HORNED FROGS!!!!!! And the MIGHTY (HUNGRY!) CORNHUSKERS!!!! Love this thread!
  • This is one of my favorite topics. I'm an asthmatic marathoner with a cholesterol problem. Due to my asthma, I used to not be able to run a 1/4 mile (my brothers and father would lap me). Sticking with it, I learned that the longer the run, the better a runner I was or became. We all have a "running groove" as I would call…
  • happy 45er but age is just a number
  • You have our unlimited prayers, support, and sympathy. Cancer survivors in my life are some of the strongest people I know and they are tremendous sources of inspiration to me! You can beat this! To paraphrase John Paul Jones, "You have not yet begun to fight!" Be strong and fight the good fight. We're here for you.
  • Ghirardelli Chocolate (super-dark): 86%. Limit: 1 :)
  • Awesome! Great to see others taking this up, too. For more details, see Pavement Runner on Facebook or Twitter and we are using the hashtag #August200 on Twitter to tell people about this. Actually, if you are doing this, tweet to @PavementRunner on Twitter and let him know, he's keeping track of how many runners are doing…
  • I have high cholesterol too and have been reading a lot about this. Eating 2 eggs/week shouldn't affect you much but yes, you need to monitor your cholesterol and fat consumption on a daily basis. I am. I already was meatless on Fridays and now have meatless Mondays too (shifting away from red meat).
  • How about "Float like a Butterfly-Run like a Kenyan"?
  • I'm 6', fellow runner, happy to help if you need it, feel free to add me. We're all in this together and the positive peer pressure to lose weight helps ALL of us.
  • I, too use mantras a lot & agree mantras can be helpful in shifting your (left) brain away from the pain/struggle/fatigue running can cause and to reach the right-brain-controlled creatively idyllic "running groove". One of my favorites (semi-inspired by Jeff Galloway's marathon book) is "loose as a goose, not tight as a…
  • Howdy! Haven't tried TurboFire but am in the second week of Focus T-25 and LOVE IT!!! It has added some explosiveness to my running and the pounds are falling off me faster. I have the "busy life" too so I can identify with squeezing workouts into small increments sometimes. Would highly recommend T-25! -Jeremy
  • Like others have said, get fitted for new shoes & socks at a quality running store. (Yes, buy the shoes online to save $). Lately I've been just taping over blisters with either blister pads or KT (kinesiology tape). KT tape can help with blister prevention and treatment a lot. There was just an article about KT tape in…
  • Thanks Webby Shoo! Didn't see your reply til now.
