Yes, I just got back from my doctors appointment and I'm down -5.5 pounds with a blood pressure of 114/75. Not bad for being diagnosed as diabetic in 2005. I'm to the point that I have four workouts that I rotate 3 days a week, the toughest one being with battle rope and using kettle bells during the active rest period.

If nothing else use December to start charting your food and exercise. Maybe then you can plan what meals work best for you, portions, etc. It will also give you a head start on what will help you to quit smoking and which form of exercises work best for you. That way if your a planner you be ready to go :)

I hit my goal about 6 months ago but like someone else mentioned I just keep after it to make sure I'm eating right and enough 'good' food. plus if I do have some days of overdoing it I can catch myself quicker. I do it first thing in the morning and adjust as needed through the day. and Sunday was 820 days in a row for…

Bought my battle rope about a week ago. 40' x 2" set it up on my weight bench to anchor it. So I got about 3 minutes in and my God were my arms, shoulders and chest burning. I have a gymboss timer that I'm going to start using next time, so my next challenge is to build up to 20 minutes...might take a few months.

Did you ever get your answer or find out the calorie burn? and are you doing a timed or rep workout or Tabata style?

Bringing this post back to find out how or what you did about the battle or heavy ropes? Did you try them out, what were your thoughts, are you still using them? Thanks in advance

Kettlebells take up MUCH less space, you can take them with you even on a car trip, just throw one in the floor board of the back seat and there your go. Or you can take them to the local park. Check out Lisa Shaffers' site http://www.nofearfitness.com/index.php I was lucky enough to train with her first using kettlebells…

I usually lighten up my lifting and focus more on stretching but only for a week, week and a half. I look at other workouts maybe test some new exercises, etc. I'm doing that with reverse shoulder shrugs and decline bench presses right now and trying out a rest-pause type workout. It gives me a chance to learn and heal and…

I had knee surgery in August of last year. They went in to fix my MCL and LCL and found out I had a meniscus tear as well. They fixed that latter but the other two were beyond repair so they were cleaned up and my next choice is a knee replacement. I started out slow of course but now most of my workout is uppe rbody,…

Just got mine yesterday, going to put the ceiling bracket up this weekend. Tried it in a door jam last night but I can see and feel where that does limit your range of motion. How do you document your workouts? Thanks.

That's a tricky one, MFP doesn't include 'newer' exercises like kettle bells, etc. Not knowing you I would say that you are probably going to be doing the 'ballistic' type training with the kb i.e. swings and snatches for it to be considered cardio. A good free source to find out about kettle bell training is…

I understand, I've done club bells as wells and I loved using sledge hammers as well.

Excellent job and congrats, from a fellow 52 year older. Good luck with the maintenance as well, it always seems to be one of the trickiest parts of staying healthy.

Well not knowing your whole story or body composition you could be building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. It might be best to NOT rely as much on the scale as it would be your measurements or maybe inches lost. Just a thought, I'm not a professional trainer and I don't play one on TV =)

Actually if I eat below 1500 calories my MFP tells me that I am possibly putting my body in starvation mode which I think means I'm losing muscle mass also. I'm pretty careful about getting more than that but I also have diabetes to contend with as well.

Thanks all, never even thought about my heart rate monitor and I bought a new one about a month ago.

I actually went last night, had 3 steak tacos...steak only (naked as I call them) with some pico sauce and about 10-12 chips with salsa. It worked great and I stayed under my calorie count for the day.

Been involved in martial arts for almost 40 years. got into BJJ about 5 years ago but was rolling with my coach and tore my rotator cuff and slap band in my right shoulder. Did the surgery thing and rehab, doing much better but I can feel when a storm is coming. Continued on after that with Arnis/Escrima, Kali, etc. Right…
