Dissolution (2003), a historical mystery novel by British author C. J. Sansom, set in 16th century England. It is Sansom's first published novel, and the first in the Matthew Shardlake Series.

My black lab buries five or six small pieces of dog food in a neat little circle under a throw rug in the dining room, then lifts the rug up into a pile on top of the food. I pick up the food and straighten the rug. Later that day, I see the rug is in a mess again. One of the odd little interactions her and I have during…

It's a struggle for me as well. I do try and keep below my calories limit. Working to stay under my calories does help to keep me from eating mindlessly in the evenings after dinner (my danger time for eating out of boredom or habit).

You know that life's ridiculous when ..................... You pick up the newspaper, or look at Twitter, and see how poorly people treat others who look, think or act differently than they do. Quite sad when you think about it.

I laughed at your title of "Mid life crisis." When I began going to the gym regularly 2 years ago, my uncle and my mother were talking and I overheard them. They were saying that I must be going through a mid-life crisis, because of my new found interest in fitness and weight loss. I'm so glad I stuck with it. You can do…

There are some great "Age 50+" groups in the Community section. I'm 53, and a man. For me, I find that my weight loss is not linear. It occurs occasionally and at irregular intervals. But it is in fact occurring. I find it helps when I'm accurate in recording my portions sizes, consistent in my tracking and when I work to…

Grew up in Pittsburgh. Lived in Indiana, Pa. and the Somerset, Pa area. Now living in Ohio. I agree, there's something special about Pennsylvania.

I've worked out there for the past 25 months.

@yary21colon Hello from Akron. Lots of good folks from Canton, Akron, Ravenna, and all over NE Ohio here on MFP. Please feel free to add me as a friend if you would like.

I'm a member of the Cuyahoga Falls / Stow, Ohio Planet Fitness. A large, nice, well maintained facility. I personally don't eat the pizza or Tootsie Rolls that are set out for the patrons, but it doesn't bother me to see it there. The majority of members that I see there are working hard at improving themselves. Many…

Lisa, well done with your fight against cancer. Best of luck with your fitness journey. Will keep you in thought and prayer.

Thank you for your post :) Good luck and blessings to you!

Planet Fitness takes much criticism, and in my opinion most of it is uninformed and unwarranted. I've been a member for 2+ years and it meets my fitness/budget/location/cleanliness and availability of equipment needs. I've not had an issue or a bad experience there, and I've never seen their staff be anything other than…

I honestly think the best response is to smile, say nothing and then go about your business of losing the weight you wish to lose and getting fit. Let her comments roll off of you like water off of a duck's back. You will be the better person for it.

@gizmomcneal .... Greetings from Akron. I've struggled with the back and forth weight loss and gain as well. I find the thing that is most important for me is to target consistency with respect to calorie deficiency; taking it one day at a time, one meal at a time. It also helps me if I get my exercise in - lifting 3X week…

I know for me personally, it's all about consistency. I've been on MFP for a few years now and I've been somewhat successful in losing weight. But I only seem to lose the weight when I'm consistently tracking and exercising. I need to string together 4 to 6 days a week where I come in under or at my calories limit and get…

1. We adopted a baby from an orphanage in Russia many years ago. We spent cold, anxious weeks in Moscow and Krasnodar. Doctors told us the baby would be disabled and retarded, but the baby grew up to be an all-star high school athlete and to score remarkably high in his military entrance examinations. 2. My dad’s family…

@ theskyblushed You seem to have a great outlook; thanks for posting this thread. So much acrimony right now in our government, on our TV, in the news; it's refreshing to see your post and the smiling animals.

@nicola1141 I Googled this author / series / book and it looks like something I'd like. I plan to read Dissolution. Thanks for the tip.

Time to resurrect an old thread......................... Does anyone have a recommendation on a good crime or mystery fictional novel?

Lots of great folks on MFP and lots of support.

I think it begins with forgiveness. For me, I had to forgive myself first and foremost for letting myself get so obese and for all of the weight-related health issues I put myself through. I also had to forgive family for some issues growing up related to food and eating habits. And lastly, I had to forgive some others…

I've been in a kind of "Retro" mood lately, and I've been listening to a lot of the older American (West Coast) jazz; Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, Paul Desmond and the like. Can't get enough of the music that Vince Guaraldi wrote for the "Peanuts" (Charlie Brown) specials in the mid-1960's or for the 1959 Dave Brubeck…
