For a year I have counted calories (not always perfectly, but still being mindful most days), and saw no results. The month of January I significantly cut down on drinking. I lost 5 lbs. Sadly, I think it's key.

It's not necessary, but some people struggle with discipline and programs like this help them/make it easier for them. Even if it's the placebo effect. I agree. The mindset and the end result (which may not always be, but often is, way 'overdone') is not attractive to me. But there are plenty of women who would view it differently, and that's ok too. There's someone for everyone. :)

I suppose it would depend on how long we were dating before he dropped the bomb. Guys have a way of waiting until a girl is in love with them before dropping bombs. I might not leave, but if he started using them again I'd be out the door.

Congratuations, that's amazing. I've smoked on and off for 14 years. Quitting twice when pregnant with both boys and for periods afterwards, but somehow it always sneaks back up. I struggle with alcohol too, though I don't consider myself an alcoholic. Stay strong!
