  • I personally could not handle having no scale. I need numbers, right there in front of me to feel like I'm making any sort of difference. For a while I was getting super stressed over very minor (like two tenths of a pound) gains, but then one day I weighed myself often (like every half hour) and it sort of put it all into…
  • Kind of off topic, but how do you so much fiber? I've started eating Fiber One bars, just because my fiber number always seems kind of low.
  • I love these! I care less about the number (although seeing the weight go down on the scale tells me I'm doing things right enough to get closer to my goals) and more about what I can do. I want to be able to do those insane, kind of sexy yoga poses like the head stands and the ones where your body is completely tangled up…
  • You guys are all probably right. Thanks! I work with kids, and the dress is a simple, cotton, Old Navy dress that isn't cut super low, is long enough that I can wear shorts underneath without anyone noticing (until the kids and I start doing yoga or rolling on the grass, in which case I'm glad people are seeing the shorts…
  • This. Also, getting your family involved can be a great thing. And, what I do for typically high calorie meals like pasta and tacos is throw in extra veggies. Like, if I'm making tacos, I try to use ground turkey instead of ground beef (sometimes it's cheaper too) then cook it with at least one onion per pound. If I have…
  • I didn't read all the replies, but one thing that struck me is maybe she wanted to increase your carb intake so you'd eat more foods that are heart-healthy like lentils and beans and bananas. My mom had high blood pressure and super high cholesterol (over 350, partly poor diet and partly genetic) and I read that eating a…
  • Are you going through a weather change? When it gets hotter, I crave tons of water. When the temperature drops from HOT to hot or pretty warm, I tend to eat more too. Or if your stress levels have changed at all, or if your sleep patterns have changed you might want to eat more. Or, sometimes you just have hollow days,…
  • Protein is the one macro I never ever have to worry about. I get 120-150 grams of protein (on my 1200 calorie limit) every day, with no protein powder or bars, by eating tons of greek yogurt (I found a brand sweetened with stevia so it's still fairly low carb), meat with pretty much every meal, and protein rich(ish)…
  • I have hereditary anemia, so I'm on an iron supplement also. Do you take your iron with any dairy or other supplements? Calcium can block the absorption of iron, which ends up making the iron pills kind of useless. My doctor told me that iron is best taken on an empty stomach, and if it causes any stomach pain to take it…
  • Oh, also, generally if the kid chose the recipe, it meant they would like eating it. The kids enjoyed eating it even more when they helped make it. And I made them try everything (even if it was only one bite), and talked about respect, and nice ways to say no thank you and all that.
  • For the little girl I watch (60+ hours a week, so I deal with all meal-time frustrations), she usually gets 3 or 4 different things in a meal, and I make sure at least two of them are things she loves. She'll eat the things she likes, then usually wants more of those, but I make her eat some (usually three big bites, or…
  • My boss wears bikinis when she's pregnant because she said it's really difficult/expensive to find maternity swimsuits, and generally if the swimsuit fits over the baby bump, it doesn't fit anywhere else.
  • It might be a good idea to go see your doctor. Depression can be a reaction to bad things happening, but it can also just be that your body's chemicals are imbalanced. It might not be depression, but if something weird is going on and you're concerned about it, your doctor should be able to help.
  • If you're looking for any workout DVDs, check out your library. I was in complete shock at how many mine had, but it's been awesome. I love being able to try any before I actually buy one, I've definitely saved money.
  • I haven't noticed much difference with size, but the right side of my body is definitely better at everything than my left (more flexibility, better balance, stronger, etc). I've been doing yoga, and I try to push myself a little more on my left side, and whenever I do strength training I try to do an extra rep or two on…
  • I normally use the Neutrogena Ultimate Sport spray-on sunscreen, and it works very well. Last month I was on a week long vacation, outside in the 95+ degree weather, in and out of the water or walking or kayaking all day every day, and because I remembered to reapply every hour or two, I didn't get burned at all. Well, I…
  • I tend to keep freeze dried fruit and veggies, beef (or pork or turkey) jerky, a few cans of soup and some fiber one bars in my car so if I end up with no time to make something or no way to run out and get food I have something healthy-ish ready to go. This is more of an emergency stash, since most of that stuff has tons…
  • It could be you aren't eating enough or drinking enough water, but I'd lean towards breathing issues. I keep my inhaler on me/as close as possible while I'm working out, just in case something starts feeling weird. Did you tell your trainer about the dizziness? I'd make sure s/he knows, and ask him or her to watch your…
  • I do the Les Mills version of yoga (body flow or balance outside the US) and love it. It isn't the only exercise I do, but I feel amazing afterwards, all stretched out and loose. And even though I've only been doing it for a couple weeks, I'm already more flexible. My balance is improving, and it's a good core workout.…
  • That tuna salad looks really good! Is it saucy? My core food is non-fat, non-sweetened, vanilla greek yogurt. Also, seaweed salad is one of my faves. It's healthy, quick as I buy it premade from Costco, and pretty low calorie. And, this isn't really a core food, more a method, but I love cooking chunks of meat (chicken,…
  • My big trips (a week or longer, and usually in faraway places like Hawaii) are usually taken with my parents, brother, and his girlfriend so we always get a suite with a kitchen, go to the nearest Costco, and stock up on healthy things to cook for ourselves during the trip. That always saves money, and makes it a lot…
  • Oh good, fat shaming. That's exactly what I needed this morning.
  • I set my own, 40/30/30. I'm seeing a personal trainer, and she helped me make meal plan that seemed perfect when we made it, but I'm having a really hard time implementing.
  • Eat before you go, plan what you'll drink ahead, and log it before you head to the party to make sure it fits into your day. Also, I looked through your diary a little. Are you gaining weight? Going through a growth spurt? You might just need more calories than 1200. You might also consider getting more protein and eating…
  • Are you measuring your food to make sure your portions are correct? 3 ounces of chicken breast is usually less than one chicken breast, "some" pasta may be a 2 ounces of noodles or 6 ounces of noodles.
  • I set my weight goal on here to be 120, but I doubt that is going to happen, it was just a nice, even number to aim for. I care more about how I look and how I feel than the number on the scale. I was 140 a couple years ago after a jaw surgery that required my mouth to be wired shut for 8 weeks, bed rest for six of those.…
  • I love it, but it does have aspartame.
  • Most plain greek yogurts will have little or no sugar added, if you don't like plain you can add honey, nut butter, citrus zest, splenda, whatever floats your boat. Also, you probably won't find a greek yogurt with absolutely no sugar, because milk contains sugar.
  • Thanks! My gym has a yoga class, but I'd only be able to fit it in my schedule once a week, and that would skipping other classes I love, which doesn't really seem worth it. Unless I did hot yoga, but that just seems way to intense for me right now.
  • I think this depends on a lot of different things; your starting weight, your general face shape, how you lose/gain weight, et cetera. I've lost about 10 pounds and I can already see a difference in my face, but my face and my hands are always the first thing to show any weight change. It might help to compare photos of…
