I love this post. (and I love your adorable baby)

I don't get how this makes sense - you are actually going 12 hours without eating if you get 8 hrs of sleep. If eating every 4 hours is necessary, than why aren't we all setting alarms for 2 a.m. to get that snack in?? I just don't know if I believe the "rev the metabolism with frequent meals" thing.

I hate breakfast. I wish I knew the real truth as to whether if really "helps the metabolism" or not. I have to force it down, and it seems to be a real waste of calories when I don't even enjoy it. If it truly is "calories in/calories out" that makes or breaks a diet, then for me, skipping breakfast is best. I don't need…

Could you expand on what happened during training that make you unable to run the 5k? I am also planning a 5k soon, and want to avoid any self sabotage. :/

THIS is exactly what I am fearful of. Hmm....

Ha ha, yes, of course- I am a daily exerciser, so my ex cals for th week could be up there and would probably give me a tummy ache if I ate them all in one sitting! :) Interesting responses so far

Just when I thought I got it... Just to be clear: are your weekly total of calories NOT to exceed your goal's worth - even including the spike day, then?
-
Ooooh... I think I miscalculated... If I am on 1200/day, last night I netted 900 after exercise... today I am going for 3000... back to netting 1200 tomorrow for another 6 days... is 3000 too much for my spike? If I am shooting for 1200/day, then after a week, including my spike, I should still net 8400 cals for the week?…
-
Ok - I am trying this also today. I am on day 7 of my 1200 cal/day "diet" and today I am shooting for 3000. Tomorrow, back to 1200/day. I am going to weigh myself daily throughout and share after 2/3 weeks. I've eaten everything from tuna to m&ms... Also, yesterday was day 6 in a row of daily cardio - last night I…

Why couldn't a person eat only the good foods they've learned to like on their spike day? No need to reintroduce bad trigger foods that hit you like crack would hit an addict - instead of having one piece of fish, go ahead and have 3.... or 4 apples instead of one... big 5 eggs omellet if you so desire - would the effects…

I am confused about the mittens - do you mean, leave the fingers out of cover, but keep the thumb in? And why? I am also planning on running outside during winters, so looking for tips!
-
I know how you feel - I am also unemployed, but thinking of looking for a part time job because I am so sick of laying around. I have a lot to do here at the homestead, but I just have no motivation to do it. If it were up to me, I would get up only for meals and my daily workout. Maybe we're depressed.

Please, someone teach me how to figure out how many calories I should have on my "spike" day - I am on a 1200 cal/day diet. How do you use your own BMR to figure this out? And how does it all change as you lose weight? Also, I have a lot of weight to lose - 50+ lbs - is spiking a good thing for someone with this much to…
-
Awesome, awesome posts here - puts a lot of this into perspective. I wish I could try spiking just for this so-called "metabolism push" but the food addict in me is very anxious about even trying. I might try a jump in calories once a week and just fill those calories with "good" food instead of the things my food addict…

I answered my own question and with further research found that Old Navy fold over yoga pants get great reviews. I just ordered some - and they come in Talls if anyone is needed talls... I will let you know how I like them when they come in.

Ah, good! I'm so glad! :)

I'm still trying to get my head around the difference it makes to eat your weekly total allotment of calories in 6 small days and one big day as opposed to 7 moderate days. What precisely changes in the body? Does the change happen daily? Or once a week? Or? I'm not being sarcastic - I just really want to understand the…

To the OP: I feel your pain. I lost 50 lbs last year, then had a family tragedy right before the holidays hit and it resulted in a 20 lb weight gain - almost half of my total loss. But, now I am BACK with a vengeance, determined to turn my setback into a TRIUMPH. First, don't let your small gain turn into a bigger gain…

I am enjoying Zumba 2 very much - I burn as much if not more with Zumba 2 on wii as I do with Turbofire - and I have confirmed this with my heart rate monitor. Just FYI on that topic - the progress charter is always about 100 cals off when it tells me my burn (i.e. my HRM says I burned 550, the Wiii says 650) so keep that…

How much of a "surplus" is necessary, and, do you have to have the total cals for the week balance in the end? (as I mentioned in my previous post - if you decide to eat at maintenance on your spike day, do you then make up for it before and/or after the day of your spike?
-
OK - so - in order to maintain your deficit, your "spike day" could be managed by eating even less the day before and perhaps the day after - so you are borrowing from other days to fuel your spike day - and how is this different to the body than just eating the same 1200 cals per day? (or whatever your goal is?)
-
Sure, you probably could wreck your whole week in one day - if you are cutting 500 cals per day from your BMR to lose 1lb/week, then on "spike day" you decide to go nutty, you could theoretically eat all those cals back in one day - it would be 3 or 4 really really bad meals, but I'm sure its possible.
-
5 lbs per week for 5 weeks, or, 5 pounds in 5 weeks (1lb/week?)
-
This is also motivation for me and I love to fantasize about it for hours... I am an old married chick with kids, too!
-
To the OP: Did you eat a calorie deficit, maintenance, or surplus while following this book? Great results - I am very intrigued.... might have to pick this book up! Would you say this program is for someone who has a significant amount of weight to lose, though? I have about 50 to go. :/

Have you tried a low carb plan, just for experiments sake? Maybe you have an insulin issue going on, or prediabetes, making simple carbs hard to tolerate?
