  • I'm just curious - do all runners skip a day in between runs? I don't run every day, but I sometimes will run 2 days in a row, then take a day off. Should I change it to every other day or something?
  • Thanks guys! I do use the forums a TON. It just the logging system I don't use.
  • I always forget about the difference between maintenance cals and the deficit-set cals... Good point!
  • Just an update: I weighed myself this morning, and it wasn't bad AT ALL! I was shocked to see that after throwing my program out the window for 3 days, I weighed in at only 1 pound heavier than my lowest weight since starting MFP. It makes me wonder if being in better shape actually causes your body to handle the treats a…
  • To the ones who rec'd weighing in, you're probably right - I should probably weigh myself tomorrow and face the facts. It will really hurt my heart if I've gained, but, it will also teach me a lesson. Then, I can plan a strategy for myself to get back on track. So, should I work out tonight? I am thinking even just 30…
  • My weekly splurge usually involves beer and chicken wings. On the day of my splurge, I eat very light meals throughout the day to "save up" calories for the evening, AND I put in an extra long/intense workout that day as well. The following day, I usually go back to my regular program. Sometimes I will take 200 cals off my…
  • Huh - I'll be darned. I've never seen diced pork on a salad - even in a restaurant - but this is cool new information! The cranberries sound great with it... :)
  • Ooooh my word, guys... I am bumping this on Day 4 of my screw up to say that I am really having a hard time holding it together - I am teetering on very dangerous ground. I have had 1500 cals today, it is 7 pm, I am obsessively contemplating whether I should: a) have some bad food - whats one more day? b) work out and get…
  • I've never had diced pork on a salad??!! What other veggies compliment this well in a salad? I like the BBQ idea!
  • Thank you all for your encouragement. I just needed that extra bit of confidence so I can BELIEVE in myself again. In the past, I would have been toast after 3 days off the program. This is part of the "new me" - being able to dust myself off and get back on the bike when I make mistakes.
  • I've read this about maltose, BUT, I've also read that this is a myth that is perpetuated by low-carb diet books and that maltose is destroyed during the brewing process of beer. I'm not trying to argue with you about your point, I know you put a disclaimer into your post, I just wanted to share that little bit of…
  • Here's the thing, though - I never overeat while drinking or after drinking, so the alcohol is not taking priority over anything, know what I mean? I really watch the food part of my day carefully if I know I am going to drink, and there is NOTHING on the backburner while the alcohol takes priority. Thats why I don't…
  • You know whats funny? After a night of drinking, especially if I have in the 7-8 drink range and do not eat much that day I can drop 2-3 lbs the next day on the scale. BUT it seems that weight loss is extremely fragile and very easy to come back. I wonder if its water weight from the dehydration of beer??
  • Yes, perhaps I should do an experiment with a non-drinking week - that is a good idea, and I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me. I've never heard that beer raises estrogen - that is plain scary!! Yes, I do account for every calorie I drink - that is what is so darn confusing to me - why it all goes downhill over ONE…
  • Oh my gosh - I just had to tell you how amazing you look compared to your "before" pics in your profile!! I don't have any other advice to offer on the weight training. I struggle with that element of exercise myself. :)
  • I am also running 2.5 miles without stopping and would like to add 1/2 mile. I'll be checking in!
  • What they're not telling you is that other "devices" that provide other "experiences" over the 'net are also on the way. Complete with smell-o-vision!
  • I'l add another question to the mix: How many drinks typically does give you a hangover, and in what form? (liquor, beer or wine?)
  •   You know, I wouldn't either if I could just EAT afterwards, before I crash! But I"m trying not to do that anymore... I am trying to end my drinking nights with water and a very small, healthy snack only.
  • Really? Interesting.. I'll have to look for that episode! Another hangover mystery I've always wondered about is why mixing different forms is supposed to give you a bad hangover? (Like doing a couple shots while drinking beer) And, if you drink hard alcohol before beer, are you really "in the clear" for a hangover?
  • Generally, the beer in that amount wouldn't give me a hangover, HOWEVER, I am thinking of branching off into rum in an effort to cut calories and beer bloat. Also, I am trying NOT to eat bad after drinking, too, so that makes my hangovers worse.
  • I am averaging 10 lbs per month - I have a lot to lose still - I am expecting that rate to go down as I get closer to goal.
  • I don't know how long you've been at it, but I think stopping binging takes some good old fashioned practice. I eat 4 meals per day at 9am, 12pm, 3pm and 6pm. I have 350 or so calories per meal and shoot for 25 grams of protein and 20-30 carbs. I focus on that schedule and try not to deviate it. My only exceptions are when…
  • I am concentrating on lowering carbs/increasing protein, so chicken wings sound like the sorta fit... ;)
  • Oh, I know they're not the IDEAL food, but, damn, they're so good... and since its chicken - there has to be worse things one could have. ;) Man, I just love them... Especially after a few cold beers and a couple games of pool. We went last weekend and I had 5 wings. I did account for it in my calories for the day, and…
  • I'm sorry - its not the OP who was using the extreme language, it was another poster who chimed in - my apologies - I think we all know which posts I'm referring to. :)
  • I don't know how I came across this old thread today, but I just read it in its entirety and it was the most interesting thread I have read in a long time. I felt that some of the pro-clean posts were harsh at times, but I liked the passionate responses it triggered - people CAN change and people can LEARN how to manage…
  • If I ever fasted, it certainly would not be as punishment either. I've only fasted a few times in my life (for religious reasons, primarily) and it felt so good to not have to think about food/calories for one day! A relief... and a nice exercise in discipline.
  • Hmm... I am really shocked at some of the harsh reactions here. I see someone who exercises after having some sugar as a person trying to manage their eating and calorie intake - not as a person with a psychotic tendancy to "flagellate" the guilt away... Is it better to have the sugar, then just lay on the couch like a…
  • Point taken. I do see that I made a big error in choosing my wording when I used the word "cheat day." I have painted a picture of someone who is "gorging" then "purging" by "starving" himself the following day, and honestly - this is not how the idea of this monthly ritual was presented to me. So, my bad. But, calorie…
