I have been offline for a while due to illness and have just seen your post. I live about an hour drive from the nearest surf beaches so getting out for a wave more than once a week is a real luxury for me. I am building my fitness again at the moment and find swimming is definitely the activity that makes the most…

My wife was diagnosed with FM about ten years ago after many years of undiagnosed pain. Her advice is to keep as active as you can when you can and rest when your body needs you to rest. Find out what triggers your pain eg: hot/cold weather, stress, certain foods etc and try and eliminate or manage the triggers. The trick…

Not a lot of activity on the group at times, but definitely keen to hear from other surfers on this forum. I live in Brisbane, Qld. On the coast but nearly an hour drive to the nearest surf beaches. I try and get out as much as possible but usually only average 3 or 4 times per month. Work, life and family seems to get in…

Sorry to hear about the dogs. We put in a couple of solar powered snake repellers. Living near Nudgee wetlands we usually get one every six to eight weeks or so. Repellers in for about 9 months and only one small tree snake and I think he came in from over the shed side where there are no repellers. I grew up in Nth Qld…

Brisbane (northside). Joined September 2013. 5 kg down about 10 to go. Not huge difference on the scales but size and shape changed noticeably. This year is a big year for physical challenges and I will use the training for this to decrease the weight and increase the fitness. 41 and even though I have a way to go, I am…

My weight loss results were better when I gave up the Pepsi max. Over the holidays I have let it slip back into the diet and feel bloated and my 'beer belly' has started to creep back - but I have not had a beer in about six weeks. My theory is all the un-natural crap in these drinks messes with our bodies. Give it up, or…

Just turned 41. 6kg down and still about 10 kg to go but I am as fit and strong now as I was in my mid twenties. I can ride further, paddle harder, surf longer and it is all down to hard work and a positive attitude. 'Life' got in the way of my health and fitness in my thirties, but now it is time to re-capture my youth…

Metric is the way to go all the way. Although I still measure height and the dimensions of a surfboard in imperial, and would prefer to drink a pint of beer. Feet and inches - the universal language. Imperial weights make no sense at all

Is 41 considered too old these days? Have been doing well until a month or so ago. Exercise is going well but up and down with my food intake- so weight loss has slowed. Also looking for similar people for mutual motivation. Would be happy to have similar minded friends from anywhere in the world.

My doctor has suggested I try Duromine or something similar- I would love to hear from other guys (and girls) with similar stories who have tried this. The story so far: Start weight 103kg - Goal weight 85kg - current weight loss - 9 kg over 12 months. Height - 5' 8". Weight loss has plateaued over last month or two. Not a…

Sorry, I'm a man and have nothing to add to this post! I just had to read it 'cause the heading had 'Boob' in it. In all seriousness though - love the body you are in. Keep up the weight loss and see what happens. Most guys would appreciate your problem but if it affects your way of life, there are other options.

I have been paddling outrigger canoes and surfskis 3-4 times a week for the last few months. I have noticed that my surf time in the water is getting longer and my surf paddle strength and speed has increased dramatically since doing this. Dusted off the magic 6'6" fish that I haven't ridden in a few years and this has now…

On the road bike, I only use patches to get me home. Where possible I replace the tube every time. Also replace tubes at my major service - usually every twelve months or so. Keep your tyre pressure at the right level and that is the best you can do. On the road bike I average a puncture every 6 months or so (weekly…

I use a Garmin 910XT. Perfect for changing between bikes. Also suitable for when I paddle, run or swim. Buy the optional handlebar mount and just strap it on and the view is clear. You can program individual screens, auto scroll etc for all the info you need. The only down side is having to manually enter activities to…

Two things to help. !) Buy a proper pair of padded cycling gloves. Not expensive but worth every cent. 2) Check with your local bike store and have a proper bike fit. It might cost a couple of dollars but definitely worth it. Usually good bike shops throw a bike fit in free when you purchase a bike from them. I have a…

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know whether we will be able to get a Caad 10 in Australia with Ultegra Di2. Might be mechanical only. I am in no real hurry, so I will wait until the 2014 models land and worry about it then. The more people I speak to, the better the Ultegra Di2 is sounding.

Three at the moment, plus a few extra in the garage that belong to the kids. About to retire a six year old Giant TCR running Ultegra and looking at a 2014 Cannondale CAAD10. Just remember the perfect formula for the number of bikes any keen cyclist should own is: N + 1 - with 'N' being the current number owned

About to turn 41. About twelve kilos to go but have not been this fit and strong since my mid twenties. Happy to link up with anyone in a similar position. Any motivation helps. Especially keen on friends who cycle, surf, paddle or get into the evil that is 'kettlebells'.

I live in Brisbane, Australia and it is compulsory to wear a bike helmet on public roads and bike paths. (Laws introduced in 1992 and a $75 fine for non-compliance). After being knocked from by bike by a car in my late teens and surviving with nothing more than a bruised ego and wrecked bike I have worn a helmet ever…

I am lucky, I live in sunny Brisbane, Australia so my secret is early morning rides. Depending on the distance, up at 4.30 to 5.00am and back home before everybody else is out of bed. Weekends, more of the same. The other trick is to get the kids cycling as well. It might be slow but it is still time in the saddle. As they…

Being in my early 40's I have tried to instill in my kids a wide variety of musical taste from Alice in Chains to Metallica to Johnny Cash and everything in between. However for a good workout a mix of Lamb of God, Amon Amarth, Rammstein, Ministry, the Prodigy, Rage against the Machine etc will always hit the spot.…

Quick, cheap and reasonably healthy solution is a six inch Subway. Plenty of good options as long as you don't go crazy with the sauces and cheese. Choose wisely and don't be tempted by the cookies.

Four weeks later and the 'taker' has still not turned up -- so I still have a gym set to sell/give away. It is on Gumtree for sale but I will give it to a deserving person/group. It is in better condition than the photos show. All you need is a ute/trailer and it is yours.

No mate. NZ is the next trip - hopefully this Christmas. Will mostly be based around the Christchurch area. Travelled through Europe in the mid to late 90's with some Kiwi boys who I will be meeting up with again this trip. I will need to start practicing my beer drinking skills to keep up with them out of the water!

Avid surfer and ocean ski paddler stuck living about an hour drive from the beach (Brisbane, Australia) due to work and family commitments. Lucky to get out on the board once or twice a week and the ski a couple of times. Due to a sedentary job with lots of corporate travel I put on weight and have been relying on the mal…

Kymmu, Thanks for your reply. Just to let you know that somebody responded to my other ads and it is going to a good home. Hooray, now the new car can fit in the shed. Cheers, Spud

I have tried to give it away to a youth group and a sporting club but they all have issues with liability and it would cost them too much to get it inspected. I did not have the heart to throw it away so for the time being, my car is outside and the gym set is in the garage. I am happy to give it away as long as somebody…
