  • Well, that's true in all aspects of life. Just seemed overly broad. I work at a research organization, so my first thoughts were of organic synthesis chemists, toxicologists or microbiologists, smattering of engineers. Without the education you won't go very far (some very small exceptions). Doesn't mean you'll be great,…
  • Are you being specific for training or are you talking all fields of knowledge?
  • Not much on cake since I'm a pie guy but for this I'll make an exception! mmm, mmm
  • Exactly. It's just a short term bronchodilator that opens up the air passages in the lungs to make breathing easier. It is NOT a steroid and does not cause water weight. Nor does it increase appetite. They are also called rescue inhalers. I've had one in one form or another for over 42 years.
  • Thoughts on Calgary Barbell program? https://www.dropbox.com/s/zvtuma1krpfv9ic/Complete%2016-week%20Program.xlsx?dl=0 I've been lifting steady for 4 years. SL for 1 year, 531 for 2 3/4 years and currently running PHAT. Looking for something new along the PL lines. Calgary barbell was something I read someone else is trying…
  • Well, never put up massive weights and am still working around some shoulder issues but I hit the weights as hard as I can. Since I'm in full eat-all-the-food right now lifts are climbing (as is waistline). I'll switch back to a PL program in Feb. If you're interested in some fairly hard core lifters who compete (and most…
  • And my 8 ounces of New York strip steak 45 mins before bed B)
  • I was on/off prednisone most of my teen years due to asthma. Relatively rare within the past 15 years, usually due to an upper respiratory infection that triggers my asthma. I've heard about sleeplessness, irritability and moodiness when on it but that's not what I experience. Appetite goes up, retain water and I feel like…
  • I've been reading this discuss as it goes along plus the information provided. Definitely going to reexamine refeeds, as prior it was only about a 2 day up to maintenance affair. Towards 8 weeks into a cut my joints start aching, but they don't when I'm in bulking mode. Wonder if a 2 week refeed would alleviate that. Guess…
  • You're 155lbs and benching 410?! Holy crap!!
  • I logged but it didn't make much of a difference until I got a food scale and really learned what portion sizes are supposed to be. Quite the eye opener actually. Used a food scale for close to 8 months and then backed off using it as I've got a good idea (now) what the portion sizes are going to look like. Give you an…
  • Am I reading right that you've only been doing the routine for 1 month? Anytime adding something new, whether it was the crossfit stuff or anything else you will retain water. Plus, as others have said, if you're underfeeding by a large deficit that's only going to compound the issue.
  • Hey, thanks for that link! Very interesting. Took the test and I'm a Virtuoso (ISTP-a). Which makes sense because I love tearing things apart and rebuilding them. Or trying something like setting up my own nickel plating system in the garage.
  • Get on a lifting program now. Work out the calorie needs with a small deficit. I'm 5'11" and in my profile pic I'm around 184lbs (83.6kg). I cannot fathom trying to get down to around 140lbs at our height. Consistency is key. Just keep lifting and your body composition WILL change.
  • Thanks! Quite a bit different than running 531 where I was pushing my lunch time workout to the max time.
  • @psuLemon Just a curiosity question since I read you were running PHAT too. How many mins are you in the gym on the hyper days? With the short rest breaks between lifts and sets it's cut down my time on those days to about 30-35 mins. Power days are longer with the extended rest breaks, at least for me, still around…
  • Depends on the program I'm running at the time. Ranges from 3-5 days. Right now it's 5. Starting in Jan, after this program, it will be 4 days.
  • I think you could move right into a bulk based on your pictures. No reason to waste the winter, it's the ideal season to bulk. I don't normally start thinking of stopping a bulk until either March or April since the weather is hit or miss. Or, if you limit how much of a surplus you're on, you can stretch it out a lot…
  • Farmer walks make me chuckle a bit because... I built my traps on the farm and they stayed with me. Lots of lugging heavy stuff around like.....farmer walks. But really, most shoulder lifts hit the traps to a certain extent and deads will build them like crazy.
  • Same here. My delts don't "pop" until I get fairly lean but it also took about 5 years and a large amount of volume to bring them up.
  • Back in my "fat" pants, 34's. 0 fuks given. Still messing with the right weight to use with PHAT. I should have them dialed correctly in another week. So far I'm liking it. Decent volume for me and has enough power movements to keep up strength while, hopefully, add some mass over the next few months.
  • Don't go "way down". Keep the deficit moderate and keep lifting. If you choose to have cardio in the mix then evaluate your deficit. I lift 4-6 days a week when I am in a deficit and haven't had any problems over the past 4-5 years.
  • Coming off a 3 week lifting layoff to let some nagging injuries heal, decided to give PHAT a try for the next 2 months. Tricky trying to find the right weight when you're only used to doing heavy weight/low rep. Although I already figured out (and surprised myself) that, yes, I will be doing weighted pullups as I cranked…
  • Nope, I don't like Quest bars. Don't/didn't like Power Bars either. I like Clif bars, they aren't high in protein like Quest or PB, but they sure are more tasty IMO.
  • Yes, bone structure/builds are different for people of the same height. Not sure I'd actually use the classification of small, medium and large but there are differences in both bone thickness and length.
  • You could get a broom handle to practice the form. That way you can get a feel for different foot positions. As far as footwear, I only squat and DL in socks.
  • Got to the point I just stopped wearing one in general. Thought about silicon but haven't pulled the trigger. Got tired of taking it off when working on vehicles, working in the yard or when lifting. Not having it on makes me no less committed to my wife. Plus I don't have the issue of women hitting on me. When you have a…
