@hiddensecant: I'm doing the Santa Clarita Half Marathon as well! I've done five marathons and several half marathons so far. My best was the Marine Corps Marathon (3:55). I aim to qualify for the Boston Marathon in 2012.

I'm at the last 3 pounds. I only had 7 pounds to lose, but losing them has been really hard. Once you get near goal weight, your body seems to be telling you that it wants a little padding!
-
You also asked about most challenging exercise. That varies: * burpees * speedwork/hill sprints * 3-minute planks

This is a sample of my weekly workout. It's getting harder as I ramp up my running mileage for a target race this fall. Mondays: Xtrain (bike or swim 45 minutes at low-moderate intensity), free weights, plyometrics Tuesdays: Running -- hill training, 6-9 miles Wednesdays: Easy 4-5 mile run or Xtrain 45 minutes and free…

How do you feel when you run? If you feel OK, I wouldn't worry too much, esp. given the fact that your heart rate slows when you slow down. Also, remember, that heart rates soar in the heat b/c you're working harder. My max heart rate is over 200 bpm. I would say, though, to bring down the intensity a bit. As an…

Breakfast is around 33% of my daily calories.

I've just started weight training. Only 3 pounds to lose until I hit my goal weight.

You're a newbie runner, right? Shin splints are a very common occurrence when you just start running. Your muscles and connective tissue will eventually strengthen to support the pounding that running does to the body. I like the suggestion of running/walking, and doing so on dirt, grass or the track. I run on the street,…

Remember that you'll get a PR (personal record) no matter what! So relax and enjoy this race. Start out slow and maintain a pace where you can converse. If you still have gas in the last mile and a half, then speed it up. People tend to start out too fast, so if you can warm up by jogging for even 5-10 minutes beforehand,…

Hi, I'm a runner too. Have done 5 full marathons and a bunch of other races. Now the half-marathon is my favorite distance. I'll send you a friend request. Oh, also as of next week, I'll be a certified RRCA running coach. Yay!

You look fabulous! You should be proud of yourself!!!

Haha! Yuck. But I rarely run on a treadmill anymore, so I don't have to worry about treadmill "issues." Being outside is so much better. The only caveat is when it's too icy or snowy outside to run.
-
I never look at anyone else's treadmill unless they look at mine. Usually they're men. And I say bring on the challenge. I'm always faster and/or last longer than them, anyway. LOL.

Starbucks Double Shot. Every day.

Hahaha! I love that post, and serves that girl right. What an idiot. This happens to me sometimes, mostly with guys, when I'm on a treadmill. I almost always run outside, but when I run on a treadmill, it's easy to get into a "pissing" contest. They usually start out pretty fast. I'm already going at a nice clip (I…

How do you log the shred in your exercise diary? Starting today.
-
Ran 7 miles this morning with hubby. Feel great (and hungry).
-
Great idea! I try to only weight myself once a week, but I have to admit that I stepped on the scale at least four times last week!
-
Don't believe the age method when calculating heart rate max. You just have to test it out. My resting heart rate is between 45-50 bpm. I ran a 10K and at the end, I was at 195 bpm.
-
I'm in! I have been trying to get up earlier in the mornings so I can run. I usually start around 6:30 a.m. Yesterday: 5.1 miles Today: 4 miles (woke up late) Thursday: 7 miles

@1111renee: Good job on beginning a running program! It's always hard at first. Keep going and don't get discouraged. It's normal to be sore -- shin splints are a common among newbie runners as is overall muscle soreness. Be kind to yourself -- slowly stretch afterward ( use a foam roller to get out knots) and perhaps also…

@mollie1037: Thanks for putting together the spreadsheet! That's a lot of work.

Nice to see you on MFP! I know what you mean about the food diary keeping you on track. I only want to lose 5-7 pounds, but after just a few days of tracking my food, I saw that the high amounts of sodium I was inadvertently eating was barring me from losing weight!
-
I'll see if I can do this. I only want to lose 5-7 pounds TOTAL, but it seems that when you're getting close to goal weight, those last few pounds are so hard to lose! Screen name: bexdc Goal for March 31st: 107 lbs March1st (starting weight): 112 March 8th: March 15th: March 22nd: March 29th: March 31st:

That's great you're running a half! Where is Gurnee?
-
I forgot to add that I'm also going to do the Wine Country Half Marathon in Paso Robles, CA, on April 10. I won't be in race shape -- the race is only 5 weeks away -- but I'll at least break 2 hrs.
-
Chicago is on my list to really race, but I can't do it this year, alas. :-(
-
I'll contact her -- thanks! The Warrior Dash could be fun -- which one do you want to do? They're held all over the country.
-
I just checked this morning and registration isn't open yet. Yes, let's jump on it once we can.

Congrats -- that's an almost 25 percent increase!
