@katy_trail I love the tip of mixing black beans with salsa and folding it into a lettuce wrap. Genius!

Iced tea has calories whereas water has zero calories. So it doesn't make sense that iced tea would help you lose weight -- unless you feel so much more energized that you are exercising more or moving a lot more in general.

Part of the answer depends on how hard and how many miles you will be running in the morning. If it is a steady-state "easy" run, you can probably eat something very light, like a scrambled egg white with a little cheese, before you run. If you're doing a tempo run or something similar, you may get GI issues if you eat…

How did the experiment go?

I'm thinking of doing a full marathon in the summer, perhaps a half-marathon in the spring. I haven't decided yet. What are folks' time goals and weekly mileage?
-
I so agree! Someone else mentioned that you may get an overuse injury by running a lot. We are literally built to run long distance. People who get these so-called 'overuse' injuries tend to: * have uneven, weak musculature (combat that by strength training and plyometrics) * do not stretch adequately or at all * try to do…

"Hold On" by Wilson Phillips. Don't judge.

I did that! 'Twas fun, but the bureaucracy was ridiculous.

1) Had a good run after work. 2) Husband made me dinner. 3) It was sunny and in the mid 70's today.
-
Forgot to add that the last mile and change was at 7:30/mile pace.

I hear ya -- I used to do heart-rate training, and my running coach had me test my max in a 10K race. I ran the first 3 miles at a hard, steady effort, pushed harder in Mile 4, even faster in Mile 5, and Mile 6 was going as fast as I could. Maxed out at 206 bpm.

Love Tahoe! Are you on the north shore?
-
I spent part of my childhood there! Now I live in Pasadena.

5-mile run yesterday, 6.2 mile hilly run this morning. That's it for now! Everyone's doing great -- keep it up!

Actually, I don't understand some folks' antipathy to running in the rain. After all, we won't melt! And most times, the streets are less crowded of cars, other runners and cyclists when it rains! A big plus.
-
I run in pretty much any weather as well. I've run several full marathons in the pouring rain and have done many training runs in driving rain as well. The coldest weather I've ever run in was minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit. It was a good incentive to keep running b/c as soon as you stopped, the sweat froze on you. As Bill…

Haha! No big deal--just stating a fact. In other news: I didn't get my 11-mile run in yesterday b/c of a family event. So I did a quick tempo run this morning: Mile 1: warm-up @ 9:56 pace Miles 2-4: 8:06/mile tempo pace Mile 4-4.5: cool-down jog

Thanks! Yes, I didn't delete my MFP account but I left it dormant. When I came back, I only had one MFP friend left, so I've had to start over with a new batch of folks.
-
I left MFP for awhile, but now I'm back!

Re pant sizes: The size varies depending on the brand! But in general, I wear a size 0 to 2. I'm 5'2" and 109 pounds.

OK, my workouts so far this week Monday: rest Tuesday: 5-mile run + upper-body weights Wednesday: 6.2 mile run Thursday: 1-hr bootcamp (sprints, pushups, squats, lunges, kettlebell, etc.) Friday: 4.5 mile easy run This weekend: Saturday: 45 minutes on stationery bike @ moderate intensity, upper-body weights Sunday: 11-mile…

Good job, but on your runs, you should aim for negative splits. As my old running coach used to say, "Start slow, finish fast!" I tell that now to my runners.
-
Haha!
-
Gross! Another reason why I hate gyms in general.
-
"Wogging" -- I love that description! :) And speaking as a certified running coach - YES, you can totally do a half-marathon in September. You have plenty of time! Just take it slowly, get good running shoes, remember to stretch afterwards, and so some strength training and lower-body work (e.g. squats, lunges - not too…
-
I thought about it but registration is expensive, and the race is REALLY crowded.
-
These are great suggestions -- thanks!

HAHAHAHAHA! I've driven the course. This super-hilly course is definitely not going to be my Boston qualifier.
-
Yep, running Big Sur in April. The last marathon I ran was in 2008, so it's been a few years!
-
I'm coming back from a 2 yrs of lackadaisical running -- this year I'm getting serious again and training to qualify for Boston (cross fingers). My PR is 6 minutes shy of that. I've run 5 marathons, a few marathons, a number of 10Ks and a few 5Ks. I've also raced a couple of 3Ks placing first in women once, so that was…
