  • You may have a tough time gaining strength on a calorie deficit. I know my strength gains have stalled at the moment while I am eating a deficit, especially my upper body gains. My plan is to get to 85kg preserving as much strength and muscle mass as I can, then eat at maintenance for a while to add more muscle mass before…
  • You're not going to gain much muscle on a calorie deficit. Flat stomach is a combination of low body fat percentage and higher muscle mass. You can either eat at maintenance for a while and try to do a recomposition or continue on the deficit until you are at your goal weight then try and add muscle.
  • [Kquote] Starvation mode Does not exist..... Or a "damaged metabolism" does not exist... Your body is responding the way it was designed to. If it does, I am sure a bunch of kids in Ethiopia should be told their doing it wrong. [/quote] What this fabulous person said. You need to slowly increase the calories you're…
  • You can weigh in daily and plot it on a graph. That way you can watch the trend line and see when weight gain or a stall in weight loss is hormonal/ a blip or something to examine in greater detail.
  • Been there. I'm in the process of shifting it. I was over 22st myself I'm now just a little over 15st. Here's what I did 1) The first thing I did was take up strength training about two years ago before I even started counting calories. Nutrition is the most important part of weight loss, but strength training will help, a…
  • Right first things first, make sure you're eating enough. MFP is great but it does have low budget allowances based on occupation rather than lifestyle. You can either use a TDEE calculator, add your excercise on MFP or some other method. Eating too little can stall weight loss, yup there's a science behind the why. The…
  • Here's a question, are you stregnth training? If not, get to it. Preservation of (and increase of) muscle mass allows you to consume more calories and still lose weight as muscle is more expensive to run than fat. Think of fat as a hybrid car and muscle as your favourite gas burning sports car, muscle looks better than fat…
  • I'm going to upset dome people here, cardio is not the best exercise for fat loss. Shockingly it is strength training (either with heavy weights or bodyweight). Cardio has its place, but it doesn't need to be running or jogging. As you lose weight you also lose muscle mass, great on the scale but not so great for your…
  • Only during training. Most martial arts teach conflict avoidance and most people who study a martial art are less likely to get involved in a fight than those who don't. They are also better able to deal with what happens if they find themselves with no option but to fight in that even if thet get hurt they recover much…
  • The short answer - yes. The long answe - yes as long as you're still creating an overall calorie deficit over the course of the week. Going over one day (unless you're going WAY over, won't make you put on weight. Think of calories out - calories in as a budget. Going slightly over one day isn't going to derail you…
  • It sounds counter intuative, but eat more. Eat more and strength train. You don't have to lift weights, you can do body weight stuff only if money or access to a gym is the issue. Losing weight without strength training lowers your metabolic rate because you lose muscle as well as fat. It is very easy to lose weight…
