Mindset is everything, for sure!!

Doc always suspected pcos for me, especially when I couldn't conceive. But he always said that my body didn't match the usual type (overweight and top heavy--at that time I was very small). FFWD 20 years. I definitely have to fight to not be overweight now, especially in the tummy. And now I gain weight in the breasts too.…

There is some research into "adaptive thermogenesis", which is what some say happens when you lose weight by cutting calories (which is what everyone does to lose weight, even if you are cutting calories by burning more in exercise). The research does seem to indicate that your body's metabolism slows slightly after…

Comforting to know I am right in the middle of most everyone! It seems age counts a great deal, too! Blehh!!! With that said, it seems that the calculators might be a bit off for us middle aged gals?? I thought my "allowance" was low at 1600-1700 a day (according to the calculators I should be maintaining at 1800-2100--47…

Ah-ha was when I put on my largest jeans (size 16) and realizied they were so tight I couldn't sit down. The difference was, MFP WORKED! And success begats success. So I kept on! Mindset is 90%+ IMO.

Op weighing in here. Good discussion everyone, and I am glad it is helping lots of folks! Here are some of my thoughts: 1. Calorie logging is always an estimate. For instance, if I have a steak, I can weigh it before I cook it (most accurate method, I have heard), but even that will not give me 100% accuracy. Because one…

What is your health condition? I have mild lupus and stay sore a lot. But I never know if it is like that for everyone, or if it is the lupus. If you are not comfortable talking about it on the public forum, please message me.

Add me. Maintenance is hard. I've regained some too! It's harder to lose the second time around too!
-
It is SOOO difficult. All I can say, from experience, is that it will be even harder to lose it the second time. So maybe telling yourself that will help!

I had that same anger too! But once I realized that I felt satisfied at my eating level, that helped. I, too, seem to be about 200 below most estimates. At this point, I figure that is close enough to simply be logging error. I posted this question because I have seen a little gain lately, even while eating the -200 level.…

I think the biggest game changer is non exercise activity. (And probably body fat/lean muscle mass-but that is hard to pinpoint without testing).
-
Okay, the main theme here seems to be. . . . . No theme! This seems to be very variable, even taking into account activity and stats. That is very comforting to me. I seem to be on the lower end of metabolism, but not out in left field! (And I'm not hypothyroid--had that checked in the spring--but I am perimenopausal!).…

I think you are exactly on point as far as using your own records! That is what I have been doing, but my TDEE seems a bit low for my age, activity level and weight, so I wanted to compare. . . .

Bumping for reference. For a snack: cut and core an apple. Put in ziplock bag. Put in a tablespoon of pb2 and shake. Yum! Can't wait to try some of the new ideas.

Very interesting everyone! Keep it coming!

Lol!

If possible please post gross calories as well as net cals! But either is helpful to me. Thanks everyone!!

It would also help us all if our media would actually show us what a healthy normal weight looks like on a woman. Instead, we get too thin models and photos that have normal bodies photoshopped into some grotesque unattainable ideal. And even the fitness model look might not be attainable to some of us (depending on…

TOM is teasing me. I'll have just a bit of bleeding, then nothing for a couple of days, then a bit more blood, then nothing. . . And I feel bloated and crampy. At least I'm not too cranky, or at least hubs hasn't mentioned it lol!

I gained inches as well as weight. Even though I lift. My arms, shoulders, and legs look great but it has all shifted to my gut/abs. Maybe that is age and hormones. I don't know but I hate it!
-
Soooo many of us. . . . At least I've stopped gaining!

A week late again and wondering! Considering I was never able to conceive, and ended up adopting two, it isn't likely to be pregnancy, but much longer and I may have to purchase a test. . . You never know.

The "supertracker" numbers generated seem to be pretty close to what actually happens with my body as far as intake. But the activity part seems to be a big guess with a lot of leeway. Oh, and the big point I get from the article is that there is no way to pinpoint exactly how big your deficit is, because of many factors,…

There are many factors to this. BMI is a good palace to find the "ballpark". After that, it may depend on how you feel, and what your lifestyle is like, as well as where you feel you look most attractive. Body composition will certainly play into that. And then you have to consider maintenance. What calorie and exercise…

@Bikerchickmomma -- 57 1/2 before it all stopped?? Oh no I hope not. That means 10 more years. . . . :o
-
Is there any particular way to reduce visceral fat, or is it just like every other fat--no spot reduction, just lose overall fat?
-
Very good question, in my opinion. And you've gotten some balanced answers. It definitely does get more difficult once within a healthy bmi range. I think we all have to decide for ourselves whether it is worth the time, effort, and perceived deprivation (depending on your preferred eating habits) to be at the lower end of…

Had one last night not too long before bedtime. I finally stripped and laid down spread eagle under the ceiling fan until it went away. So annoying. Hubby was quite amused, though. My doc is not a fan of any kind of hormone therapy because of the risks. She even cuts off the birth control pills at age 40. So right now I am…

Same thing happened to me. I thought it was perimenopause, but perhaps it is common to everyone. Sure is annoying, though. For me, I think it is inaccurate logging.

That pregnancy test thing shakes you up! I was on the verge of getting one a few months ago, and then didn't have to. That's one of the only times I've been happy to see TOM come! Can you imagine? A baby at our ages?? I've seen it happen to friends! OP, I hope you get some relief.
