  • Training for California International Marathon (CIM) in December. This will be my first. No plan as of now. That might change as we get into higher mileage. At the moment it's just listening to my body.
  • I forgot a very important one.... HYDRATE!!!
  • I also used the couch to 5k program to start running. Most of the advice that I have had been said, but can always be repeated... Get fitted for running shoes. Do not use any cotton clothing. Start your pace slower than you think you should. Try to run without music (I always wanted too go with the beat and would go to…
  • Trust your training!!! Start off slower than you think you should. Let the herd thin out. Go at your own pace. From there you can find someone you can compete against, but only at YOUR own pace. If Lose the headphones. I know, it sounds tough, but running is about rhythm. You need to find your own. Concentrate on your…
  • Congrats! It's a great feeling isn't it?
  • I was using MapMyRun (MMR) on my Galaxy. But my phones GPS was temperamental and would sometimes loose signal. I never had an issue with MMR though. Once I finished C25K, I bought myself a Garmin Forerunner 220. Yes it's pricey, but very much worth it. I like being able to set my own intervals on the watch itself, glance…
  • You can run whenever you want to. I started running 5 months ago, and I'm able to do 4 miles non stop at a 12 min/mile pace. I still smoke, yes I know I should quit. I'm working on it. I used the C25k program to get me started.
  • I think so
  • Back in June I was asking this group for tips on how to get through W1 D1 without killing myself. Well I just back in from finishing W8 D3!!! Yes it took me more than the eight weeks to finish but that was because of work & life having it's way. I was able to run the entire 3 miles this morning in 37 min, average pace of…
  • Thank you!
  • Just finished week 7 this morning. Only have one more week!
  • Keep it slow at first if you're new to running. Go at your own pace. And invest in some good shoes. Other than that, have fun!
  • How old are your shoes? I had the same issue when I started running. Then I got fitted for a good pair of running shoes and haven't had a issue sense. I also find that stretching my legs beforehand really helps.
  • I agree with everyone's suggestions on the C25k program. I always had a hard time running, but I'm almost though with the program and am running for 22 min straight. You'll have to push yourself. But do it at your own pace. Go as show as you need to, worry about speed later on.
  • Just finished up week 6! While still very challenging, I did better than I thought I would with the 22 min run.
  • I ran for 20 min straight to finish out week 5
  • Still very much a work in progress, but my wife and I have lost a total of 50lbs between the two of us. Even though it's hard for me to see the change in myself. May 2013 Aug 16 2014 - Before our first organized run! But not the last!
  • Today I did my first ever organized run! It was a four mile run with quite a few hills, rather than a 5k. I had a personal goal of doing it in an hour or less. Well, I crossed the finish line at 57:58. 14:30min/mil. Looking back to when I started C25k, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to do it. Those who have doubts…
  • Completed week 5 day 1 this morning. I ended up running a little longer after my cool down to make it an even 3 miles. I'm looking forward to the rest of this week, even though I'm a little nervous about the 20min one on day 3.
  • We have to wear button down uniform shirts at work. And today I was able to wear a XL comfortably, instead of a XXL!
  • Just finished week 4 day 2 this morning. Wasn't sure I was going to make it, but I did! I've been using the treadmill the past two weeks because it's been to hot here. I think that has messed with me a bit.
  • Just keep going. If you can't complete a day, try again. And remember to go slow. You got this
  • I usually just being my phone, id & house key. I use to take my water bottle with me but got tired of carrying it around. I just make sure I drink a glass our two before I leave the house. I use my phone for the c25k & map my run apps. As well as music. I always have music going no matter what. Music really helps with my…
  • Thanks! I just copied the screen (print screen) & then cropped them.
  • Thank you. I'll be doing w2d2 tomorrow morning. It's definitely getting easier.
  • I finally made it through week one! It took me a while to finish but I had to make myself slow down. I was going way to fast in the beginning.
  • My wife and I started losing together about a month and a half ago. No pictures as of yet. We have lost about 25-30lbs combined, but still have a long way to go.
  • Where this was a little over 2 weeks ago. When I started this thread.
  • This was today's route. Notice the peaks.
  • Thank you all for the great advice! I just got back from my workout & am pleased to say that I made it through wk1 dy1. Finally! I followed the advice given and slowed down. I didn't think that my heart was going to beat itself out of my chest, neither was I super winded. It felt good. I actually had a about half a mile…
