The only problem with that and the large majority of responses here is that our bodies ARE chemical 'plants'. All that is made of matter in the universe with the exception of electricity and other forms of energy, are chemicals. Water is a chemical, oxygen is a chemical, plants are made up of chemicals. WE are made of…

I've been doing 5x5 for the past few months and got my squat up to 90-95 lbs. It would be higher if I didn't take a 3 week break this month. I was at the gym yesterday getting back into it and this guy came over to me and saw that I was picking up 2.5 lb plates to put on either side which added to my 85 lbs making it 90.…

Why would you delete your original post? They were all very valid answers to your question. You asked for exercises that would specifically target arm fat, and most of the replies were saying the same thing, that you can't target fat loss in any one particular area. The majority of fat loss is achieved through your diet.…

I accidentally purchased unsweetened coconut milk from Trader Joe's. I thought something was wrong with it the taste was so sour. Turns out that's what it's supposed to taste like when there's no sugar. I immediately dumped it in the sink, I'll gladly take the unhealthier version to give mercy on my poor taste buds.

There is no such thing as 'toning' the muscle....you need to eat at a deficit to lose body fat and LIFT WEIGHTS to maintain your lean body mass aka your existing muscle. When you lose body fat, that's when you will begin to look smaller, including your arms. If you don't exercise, that's when you might start to lose muscle…

I'll add you! I've only been paleo for about 3-4 months but am ecstatic about the positive changes it's made to my whole body. I post on MFP daily and do my best to log every day as well. I'm looking for more friends on here, too.

In my personal experience, yes it is. I initially dropped 10 pounds in 1 month, 6 pounds the next, and then ANOTHER full month just to lose 1 pound. I've now gone down 17 lbs in 3 months but I'm not too concerned about the number on the scale, I just want to get my body fat % down. I'm constantly hearing from people "You…

Definitely look into Stronglifts. It's almost exactly the same as Starting Strength actually and they are both very good beginner programs that use all the compound lifts.

My studio has an anniversary party each year with student performances every June. I performed last year and will be doing it again this June. Last year was my very first time creating my own routine with the help of my instructor critiquing me. What I do when thinking of a routine, I find a song that has a great beat and…

Love all kinds of sushi. I've been eating more and more sashimi in efforts to reduce my carb intake. I absolutely love raw fish and could eat it every single day.

Sunflower seeds and macadamia nuts. And watermelon.

The thing is...I've tried upping my calories and I just can't eat any more. I really don't know how.... I never used to have this problem when I was eating "regular" foods. I eat until I am full with every meal and just can't stuff any more down. I've been logging more, and I ALWAYS top out at the 1450 that MFP…

Thank you! I couldn't reach my foot for the longest time and stopped trying, but came back to it the other day. You really have to arch your back and push from your chest in order to grab that foot.

This is the twisted ballerina....and this is me the other day lol

Any of the times I've 'cheated' or gave into temptation with certain meals, it has never ended well for me which is crazy because it's foods that I used to eat all the time. Anytime I eat grains now, my stomach bloats up like never before and I get stomach aches usually a few hours after or the next day. My sinuses also…

The guy's an ugly douche, but this doesn't bother me one bit. It's HIS COMPANY, he can do or say whatever the f*** he wants. Don't like it? Don't shop there. I agree with everyone else saying that Lane Bryant only sells plus-sized clothing. Big + Tall only sells clothing for larger men. I agree his attitude and approach…

Nailed the twisted ballerina this week!!

I completely cut out dairy from my diet a few months ago because I was trying to figure out if it was causing me stomach pain. I also cut out grains too. I no longer drink milk (I drink almond milk and just don't miss cow's milk at all) but I'm slowly eating cheese again. Only in small amounts though, I will sprinkle some…

Thanks everyone for your replies! Seems like it's a unanimous opinion that you should log pretty much everything that enters your mouth hole. I don't know if I'll go so far as logging gum, but I'll definitely try to log everything else I eat, even if it's just a few calories worth of lettuce or a few pieces of mushrooms. I…

Yes..I know that. That wasn't my point- my point was whether or not it's really necessary to log the 7 or so calories from the cup of spinach I just ate. I know these add up over time if you're not careful, but I guess I'm just not like other MFP users. I just don't see the need to log the piece of gum I just chewed or the…

Since I stopped eating grains and mostly all dairy (except cheese here and there) any bloating I would have had has completely stopped. I have not read the book, but have done similar research regarding this issue and definitely could agree with the science behind it. My stomach is a lot flatter and more defined now which…

YES! I eat them after workouts. Often I will stick a fork in one, nuke it in the microwave for about 5 minutes and then eat it like a baked potato with coconut oil and salt/cinnamon on top (like a baked potato) and chicken + veggies on the side. MMMM. Other times I will peel them, chop them up and make 'fries' out of them…

I was in the same stage as you are now before I started lifting. I knew what workouts to do but didn't know HOW to do them, I was afraid of looking stupid. I highly recommend stronglifts. It does not require a membership, you don't have to pay anything. If you want to read the PDF file they send you telling you all about…

September 2012, 142 lbs. This picture embarrasses me because I did not think I looked this 'puffy' at the time. It's crazy how different you think you look in the mirror vs. pictures and videos. I ate whatever I wanted and did work out, but had not started lifting yet. Notice how there is some slight muscle definition…

It is 100% the parent's fault. My boyfriend's mother is overweight, his 19 year old sister is borderline obese and his 5 year old sister is well on her way down the same path. Every time I eat dinner over there, there is always a crying/screaming match with his 5 year old sister because she always wants dessert before she…

I too have an intense pain in my knee that I'm getting checked out in 2 weeks, they said most likely it is my meniscus too. It doesn't hurt every single day, but when it does it's such a pain (no pun intended). I do a lot of brisk walking on an incline at the gym, hanging leg raises or the 'roman chair' for my abs and a…

I would love to workout with my boyfriend but he lives a few towns away from me and goes to another gym (when he actually makes time to go). I go to an LA Fitness that just so happens to be directly next door to my job so it's very convenient for me. Of course none of the girls I work with are interested in paying $40 a…

That's dumb. There's no reason why you can't use 10lb dumbbells. Not everyone has to "lift heavy" in order to get a good workout in and that's okay. That also reminds me of something else that kind of annoys me, every time it looks like I'm having even a second of slight struggle there's always someone coming over to rush…

Hahah I've actually had a few guys stare but not say anything, and then when we make eye contact I act stupid and say "oh were you waiting to use this??" and then when they say no I say "Oh good cause I noticed you were looking over here. Just making sure." then they usually get the hint and walk away. But this time I got…
