  • I agree with the other posters about lean meats, pastas, etc. You may also want to rely heavily on the perimeter of the store and avoid going into the aisles too much because the "healthier" foods tend to be on the outside. *Do you have a blender? I swear by making smoothies now, so I recommend not only buying your regular…
  • I totally agree. I bought two blenders (one for home, one for work) and I've been making my own smoothies and controlling exactly what goes in them. A lot of prepared products add so many unnecessary ingredients (like sugar), and you find that all you need is some fruit, vegetables, a low calorie liquid (I prefer almond…
  • http://nutrition.mcdonalds.com/getnutrition/nutritionfacts.pdf Tons of sugar!
  • Massachusetts, where it's cold as well! lol
  • ROFL! He needs an account on MFP.
  • Hmmm... this is kind of tricky because although seeing the band is a rare opportunity (and your friends might understand), you don't know what they put aside in order to make plans with you and your husband. Canceling on them the afternoon of could be considered rude. Contact your friends asap and let them know you have a…
  • I'm no fitness expert, but I'd say it depends on how many times a week you do this, the type of activity, and the intensity. Make sure not to overwork any particular muscle group, and go at the pace that is appropriate for you and your level. I personally doubled up on two workouts recently, but I also didn't do that two…
  • I'm doing my first 5K on Thanksgiving as well. Thanks for this post because I hadn't thought too much about what to eat the morning of the race.
  • I'm in agreement with all of these suggestions (eggs, oatmeal, etc). If you want something on the go, make a smoothie the night before so you're all set in the morning. Add some frozen fruit, veggies, almond milk, and maybe a little bit of protein powder. Just made mine so I won't be caught out there and tempted by fast…
  • Hello! Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing your diary. Your meals seem balanced and healthy to me. I couldn't help but notice that you didn't have any lunch today.... I would suggest you have a little bit of pasta, but be careful to not eat too much since you already had some for dinner.
  • Hi Everyone, My name is K. I'm a native New Yorker who just moved to the Boston area a year ago. I have a great community, and I'm looking to meet new people. I'm glad this group was started because I need fitness support, and I also want to improve my social life! (Working and going to grad school eats up a lot of a…
  • Baked Mac and Cheese (real mac and cheese... not the stuff out the box! lol). I usually make it for holidays and church functions, and I love to go all out.
  • Awesome!!! Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement.
  • You GO girl. Keep up the good work. And as much as you love your family and close friends, remember that their words and opinions do not define you.
  • Howdy! It's interesting that you bring this up because I always forget that PMS is real and that it can affect my weight. This last period, I noticed that I was bloated (I normally don't really pay attention to this). I think it's still possible to lose weight during that time of the month; maybe you could allow yourself…
  • Congrats! I just turned 33 and I'm learning how to drive (native NY'er who always found a way to get around). I'm loving learning how to drive and look forward to getting my full license by Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy this new privilege!
  • Looks like we're all saying "fajitas" at the same time, so that must be the winner! LOL
  • Mmmm... Mexican! Whatever you do, say away from the tortilla chips and anything fried/crunchy. Maybe go with a fajita meal because then you can have grilled meat and fill up on flavor with onions, peppers, salsa, pico de gallo, etc. I would even eat the cheese and guacamole, but just make sure you are within your calorie…
  • You GO girl. My supervisor gave me a large box of Godiva truffles last week and when I first saw them I was like, "Dang... why'd he get me these??" But then I realized that I don't actually have to eat them all in one sitting! lol. It's good to remember we do in fact have strength and that temptation can be crushed. Thanks…
  • Amen! In the event we have a setback, there are always opportunities to still move forward. I'm loving this site and the accountability.
  • Welcome! Sounds AWESOME that you don't want to just look good for your special day, but you want your overall lifestyle to be about taking care of yourselves. Kudos to you and your fiancee about being on track and encouraging one another. I hope you also find encouragement and camararderie here on MFP. It's a great tool.
  • He Jennifer! Welcome to MFP. CONGRATULATIONS on your recovery, AND for losing those first 2 lbs. It's good to hear that you are motivated, energized, and have the desire to lose those unwanted pounds that came during your illness. I pray that you find the support and accountability that you need to succeed. :-)
  • My goal weight of 140 lbs on my 5 ft. 4 in frame was suggested to me by a nutritionist several years ago. I haven't weighed this since I was in high school, so I am quite curious as to what I'll look like at that weight now that I'm a grown woman. :-) I should add that I was a very physically active dancer at that time as…
  • You've made an important step forward. The possibilities are endless if you believe and are committed. Even if you fall, you can always get back up. :-)
  • You may want to bring a padded seat with you in the beginning because your butt is going to hurt like never before. But I find this goes away after a few sessions. Even riding my real bike doesn't hurt as much as it used to because your muscles get used to riding on the saddle.
  • Welcome! I hope you enjoy the tools and community found here on MFP. I've gotta say that being consistent is key; when I don't track my food, it is so easy to fall off the wagon. Stay focused and keep up the good work of your weight loss in this new season of your life. :-)
  • LOL! I'm not doing a challenge, but I tend to drink a lot of water and I'm having the same issue. This week I've decided to limit my water intake between 4-6pm because I'll always be commuting home and feel like I'm going to bust. LOL.
  • Thanks so much for saying hello, guys! I'm really a dancer at heart, so one of the things I look foward to is doing choreography that doesn't feel like it's going to kill me. lol. Right now I've incorporated the following workouts: spinning, kickboxing, swimming/water aerobics, and I've been slowly doing strength training.…
