  • Quest bars come in apple pie flavour...high in fiber, low in carbs :)
  • Apologies @Dragonwolf. I completely missed that critical NOT in your sentence. I was multi-tasking when I read your reply and didn't see it.
  • Respectfully I completely disagree with this(focusing on the bolded part), especially on keto. While I agree you can't outrun a bad diet, that statement is moot here since the 'diet' in question is keto, and as such you don't need to increase your food intake to fuel the workouts. Given these points you're increasing your…
  • I look at it this way. If I'm using my fat as fuel, the more fuel I use, the more fat I burn! So as exercise requires fuel, I will and have burned more fat by adding exercise. Walks are good but if you could up that to a jog you'll likely have better results. I do all my workouts either in the basement or outdoors..no gym…
  • I appreciate the perspective folks...and I have always kept silent because even though he's never really talked to me about it he is an adult and can make his choice. He's never explained it to me such that he suffers as you've described but perhaps he does and just doesn't want to talk about it. I'll give another example.…
  • Hey welcome. I got back into running this summer and as I moved into LC I found the first few weeks my speed took a hit (5k) but after the first week my endurance just took off. I felt a lot less tired after 5k than when I was HC...I just didn't have the energy for sprints. After about 4-6 weeks though my speed came back,…
  • I wrestle with this on the opposite side. My brother won't have a piece of cake to celebrate my kids birthday's(or anyone in the family) because he gave up sugar to relieve joint pain. It bugs me to no end that I have to explain to my 4 year old that her uncle can't eat cake...because I don't believe it. One small piece of…
  • I'm in the minority for this group. I use it about once a year usually to 'cleanse' myself after the summer of camping. Last summer I camped 7 weekends out of the summer including a 17 day stretch solid and for me camping equates to quite a bit more than normal drinking and lots of campfire snacking :) While I do like how…
  • Completely agree, and I do the same to burn off excess carbs when I have a cheat day...go for a run or my weekly ball hockey (2.5 hours of chasing young punks around a gym) work well for that :)
  • ~60gram net carbs for me is very satisfying and successful from a weight loss perspective. I used to go hard core under 20 but now I can enjoy things like quest bars and nuts in greater quantity which keeps me sane but also in ketosis.
  • You are correct in terms of carbs that influence insulin production or whether or not you get to/stay in ketosis. Practically speaking you ate 10g carbs :)
  • That's entirely possible. I only have tried a few of them. Once i found choc chip cookie dough(or sex in bar form) I stopped experimenting and could eat those and only those for the rest of my life if needed lol
  • @baconslave What you lack in ability to moderate food intake you more than make up for in analogous literary prowess!
  • Well, my take...we're all here because at some point in our life we enjoyed food a little too much and have since made decisions and efforts to undo some of the damage(whether it be physical weight or emotional...or both). I've always believed that the best diet is the one you can stick to but at the same time, at what…
  • Well I truly hope that someday you can learn to ignore that switch and stomp out that fire. :) It's very liberating but it is tough.
  • Agree with everything said so far, but I would caution eating below 1200 calories ever..unless you're a child. 1200 is considered a bare min unless you're under 5ft tall and already small. If you're undereating by too much your body can start doing wonky things and hold onto fat.
  • In what universe is combining chocolate and peanut butter ever not good? :)
  • I guess what I would try to do if I could not control the urge to fall off the wagon is figure out why and slay that demon. Maybe it's easy for me to say because I don't struggle with food urges anymore but I did...and I dealt with it. Rationing is a strategy but it's not a solution. I mean no offense to anyone who…
  • I look at it differently. Life is too short to deny yourself the pleasure of enjoying something decadent!! The fact that we can eat food like Quest bars and not blow our way of eating is a blessing I treasure. On the other hand they're so da**ed expensive I only let myself eat one a day...and that's how I control my…
  • Lots of great advice...you have to find what works for you. What worked for me was getting a book that listed all the foods and their carb counts. I went through the book and picked what foods I liked to eat and bought them...didn't buy the foods I couldn't eat and that was it. I didn't care about sugar and carb…
  • First time was after a year of killing it at the gym and eating HCLF and only losing 6lbs. I talked to a trainer friend who asked about my diet and we determined for one that I was drinking far too many calories/sugar with my lemonade and pop. I switched to diet pepsi and water for 2 weeks and dropped a few lbs just from…
  • Planters right from the jar.
  • 2/3rds of a cup to a full cup of dry roasted nuts daily and I haven't stalled as a result.
  • During the times i've used keto in the past 17 years the results are usually the same. (Caveat I exercise 5-6 times a week with both cardio and resistance training). Month 1 I lose around 20lbs, month 2 about 8lbs and then if I'm still going about 1 lb / week. Longest i've ever gone is 3 1/2 months losing 32lbs total…
  • Dry roasted peanuts Choc chip cookie dough Quest bars Cheddar filled sausages Generic breakfast sausages Angus meatballs w/Kraft caloriewise BBQ sauce.
  • I think for those who make an effort to eat good foods like veggies and avoid things like bars but if the quality of your diets isn't the greatest, there is probably more risk of overeating in terms of calories. For example, I don't like veggies so I get a lot of my fibre from Quest bars and Adkins bars. I also LOVE…
  • I was(technically still am) a Tony Stewart fan, although since the kids came along I don't have time to watch many NASCAR races anymore. Added the 33 because I had to add something and 3 is my fav number.
  • Thanks for the welcomes...I first started with Protein Power by the Drs Eades back in 99 and have used keto on an off over the past 17 years to balance my desire for carby things, salty things and alcholic things...but it's still nice to find a place where it is spoken of in a positive, productive and supportive way as is…
  • Meatballs nuked with calorie wise bbq sauce...the whole office wants them they smell so good :) Also a choc. cookie dough quest bar when I'm lazy with 1/3rd cup dry roasted peanuts :) My tastes are very plain and repetitive though.
