To explain why it happens: There is a hormone called Leptin, which is responsible for fat burning (besides other things). Eating on a calorie deficit for a longer period of time decreses Leptin levels. Increasing your calories for a day or so brings leptin levels back to normal. Simples :D

cardio doesnt build muscle, weight lifting does that. Running actualy burns muscle. I prefer running over eliptical, although both are good for calorie burns.

I know, if I could only afford it... And the ones that my gym offers arent very good, as mentioned above :grumble: I love the way you used "attempting" lol

 Soooo helpful...

Thanks a lot! Great advise :) I've heard about this book, might have to get that. I'm getting between 130-150g of protein a day, all natural (no powders), but I'm still really sore. I guess it will adjust after awile, as I'm still new to it. It is good to feel the burn though, at least I know I'm working hard!
-
Oh, and should I do weightlifting if I'm still sore from the last session? Thanks!
-
Yes! June 24th 2012. So scared, as my longest distance is 6 miles. Lots to work on! But looking forward to it. :)

This is probably the beat advice/explenation about lifting for women I got. Thanks for posting :)

I know what you mean. My husband will not do anything if you call it work out or exercise. I always workout alone. But he likes sports, so we play tennis together sometimes. I managed to convince him to go on a cycling holiday to Scotland next year, so thats good. Lots of training for that (we need to be fit enough to do…

That sounds great! Do you think it would keep well in the fridge for awile? Or could I freeze it? Thanks for the recipe!

Uhmm, have you ever hears of leptin? Or stress hormones? Having a cheat day is actualy beneficial. Good way to get things moving. My weight wouldnt move for 2 weeks, not even 0.01lb, even though I was working my a** of and eating well. Then I took a cheat day - 1800 cals over my maintenance, mostly carbs and fat. Worked…

Egg yolks are incredibly good for you, lots of vitamins and lots of protein. Ice cream on the other hand... I eat the whole egg. Or two. Nom nom

I dont have HRM, so overeatimating burn is a possibility... and overeating is a possibility... hmmm, think I got to re-think my strategy... maybe I'll start eating 50% of my exercise cals and see how that goes :)
-
That makes sense. I do eat well, most of the time anyway. But I found that when I'm in a calorie deficyt from diet only I lose more weight than if I exercise and eat those calories back... so I thought that maybe I'm doing it wrong...
-
I probably am, but I saw a post today saying "whats the point in exercising, its 80% diet anyway" and it bothered me, I thought it was calories in calories out for weight loss... oh well, thanks for your reply. :flowerforyou:

I work out twice a day, and if you count walking as a workout then 5 times a day! I do insanity workout at 5am, shower, walk my dogs for 30mins, breakfast, work. Walk at lunch for 30mims, gym at 5.30pm for 1.5 hr (30mins swim). Back home, have dinner, walk the dogs. I feel great, masses of energy, and I can eat 1800 cals a…

It depends... Mostly, calories should be as close to 0 as possible, preferably in green (positive). If you are trying to lose fat and gain muscle, your protein should be in red (negative). If you are just trying to lose weight, try to stay in green but as close to 0 as possible on every number. These are your goals - you…

^^ this you beat me to it :grumble: :flowerforyou: If you are in a calorie deficit for an extrendetd period of time, your leptin levels will drop by about 60%. That will encourage production of stress hormones that make you store fat. Having a day off brings them up to normal.

£5 gift voucher for John Lewis... you cant buy ANYTHING for £5 in John Lewis... thanks.

When you say DAILY, does that mean we shouldnt do calorie cycling? I dont think our bodies run on a tight 24hour schedule... But I agree with everything else you said... There are too many "thin" people who eat McDonalds one a day and thats it. Wonder how healthy they are? Its not only how much you eat, but what you eat…

Any chance your TOM is due? And someone said that working out too much and not eating enough will make you put on weight. That is simply not true. It may slow your weight loss down, but it wont reverse it. Watch your sodium. If you are working out a lot you will retain water in your mucsles. Watch your carbs as the make…

Awesome job! I wann abe where you are... Do you think Insanity will take me there? I'm doing it right now, first week... Fingers x'd!!!
-
Nothing you can do  Try to plan and log your meals in advance, so you can adjust what you eat to meet your goals. And its very hard to get it spot on, so dont worry about 10-15 grams difference :flowerforyou:
-
Year and a half is a long time... I'm not planning to keep that schedule for long though. Insanity is only 60 days, and I'm planning to be at my goal weight by then, so I wont be doing as much. Maybe take a break for awile, and then start again? :flowerforyou:

I havent got a life lol but seriously, exercise is becomming my hobby. And if its making me feel good, I figure, why not?
-
Thats what 1600 is more or less...
-
lol yes, I've done that, but it upped my calories from 1200 to 1420/day, which didnt seem enough?
-
Thanks guys:) Its just that I dont have a hrm and I dont want to overestimate my calories burnt. I have been loging before and eating them back, but didnt lose any weight :( And I dont count walking as exercise, as I do it every day... And I'm not that good at swimming, so would be easy to overestimate... Also, I'm 5' and…

Insanity is a workout that you do at home. Its awesome, but super-hard. Its ideal if you dont want to sign up for a gym. You can try 30DS as well, its pretty good workout and only 20mins a day. If you google both you will find out more about it. If you're just starting out exercising, simple routines like jogging in place,…
