Just wrapping up my second year at uni. I make stir-frys, salads, lettuce wraps, roasted vegetables, crock pot, nori rolls, spaghetti squash, sandwiches, tofu scrambles, smoothies; there is really no end to super simple, plant-based, and quick recipes. I would definitely take a bit of time to look up a few options. More…

Yeah, I think I'd have bigger problems than increased appetite if I were pregnant ;) Thanks for the thoughts. I have talked to my doctor about this and they really didn't have a satisfactory answer.

Calories are derived using a combustion method called calorimetry. A substance (in this case, the food) is combusted in a vacuum chamber surrounded by water. The combustion raises the water temperature and the calorie (unit of heat) is determined. At least that's what I remember from chem...

apples. i will eat the entire week's worth in a day if I'm not careful

Salads!! Infinitely customizable, delicious, satisfying (granted you add a bit of nut protein), and wonderful for portability and easy prep.
-
^I agree with this!! There is really no point in totally denying yourself what you want, as long as it is in the right portions/properly accounted for

I would honestly just go with a blended mix of vegetables. Spinach, spirinula, kale, ect. all have sufficient protein. If you want to make a meal with a more solid source though, I would really recommend tempeh. It is a fantastic source of complete protein (comparable to chicken breast), is high in calcium, fermented…

yeah, your friend is in serious need of nutrition 101

Totally ok not to exercise at this point. In fact, it will be better for your body to not exercise until you get to your ideal weight. After you hit that weight, then feel free to hit the gym
-
I generally feel more hungry on rest days, so my rest days are typically higher in intake
-
Agreed. I know it's weird, but increasing calories will increase your Thermic Effect of Food (TEF), allowing your body to burn more. Totally counter intuitive, but eat more to burn more when you have plateaued

This is a good tdee calculator: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ TDEE is what you need daily in order to meet your goals (this is just what I understand it to be, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt). So if you use this calculator, it should give you an idea of what you need on average daily to…

I totally agree: http://www.youreatopia.com/blog/2011/9/14/i-need-how-many-calories.html This article really really helped my understanding of what I needed for my recovery. Best of luck :)

tdee is total daily energy expenditure i think

First off: Yay for you! That's really exciting that you are taking thins on by yourself! Congrats! With regard to your post, I am also on the recovery road! What previous posters have said is totally true and I would echo it: because of your age, height and gender, somewhere in the 2500-3500 range would be best for…

5'8" shooting for 135-140. However, I'm a guy, so I don't know if that helps at all...
-
Agreed: the best way to gain weight would be to not overdo it on carbohydrates. focus on protein and fats (the good ones found in nuts, eggs, fish, avocado etc.). Just make sure you're keeping some sort of healthy exercise, make sensible food choices, and snack often and on calorie dense foods. best of luck!

Rice and beans with a peanut flour/soy sauce dressing and wilted leafy greens
-
I think this is pretty much true... except that I don't know that you would purely gain only fat off of an increase of calories (I say that under the assumption that you do at least SOME kind of activity throughout your day). other than that what the previous two posters said is really what I would say too

you guys are amazing! I'm recovering right now and just wanted to interject and say how inspiring ^this is. thank you!
-
reasonable enough answer... thanks!
-
Awesome, thanks for the response! I've started to do two days of strength training per week with a day of rest afterwards :)
-
Also, if I feel sore on what is supposed to be a workout day, should I still work out? Thanks, matt
-
I am in a similar situation and I am really curious to know what people have to offer on this topic
-
Hey there! First off I just want to echo the "keep-it-up"s going around; you are already making huge steps toward recovery :) as far as feeling full goes, when I first was in recovery from my ED, I experienced a similar feeling. What I found is that eating more calorie dense foods helped infinitely! The meals/snacks don't…

I try and stay as hydrated as I can, and since I exercise a lot and am vegetarian, I am very aware of protein/fiber needs and am almost always over on those macros at the end of the day
-
Totally agree, I definitely get cravings for indulgent foods...
-
also, does anybody else find that they are more hungry on their rest or recovery days?

All of the things that you are doing now will help you gain muscle, but the main thing is going to be making sure that you are taking in enough calories: without enough going into your body, you can't rebuild. Another alternative form of exercise that you may like to try that isn't just lifting weights is rock climbing: it…
