  • I should have read this response first, it lays things out much better than mine did. And yes, apologies for derailing the original topic. The whole "nice guy" thing is a huge sore point for me.
  • No woman owes you (or any other person) a romantic and/or sexual relationship because you've treated her with decency and kindness. If she's truly your friend, that should be a given. You don't get a cookie because you're nice to her. There may be plenty of reasons why she doesn't want to be in a relationship with you…
  • In nearly four months of working out vigorously 5x per week with a combination of cardio, bodyweight strength training, and heavy lifting (as of 2 months ago), I have lost 3 inches in my waist and 2 inches in my hips. Arms? .25 inches. You can't spot reduce, as the others have said. Your body will let go of fat where it…
  • I agree is sounds like a kidney issue, possibly kidney stones. I would get yourself to the doctor ASAP, as even a medical doctor on MFP would not diagnose without examining you.
  • It doesn't matter what kinds of foods you but out of your diet, unless you have an allergy or other medical condition. If you are not in a calorie deficit, you will not lose. It is quite common to be where you are if you are a) overestimating your calorie burns from exercise and b) underestimating how many calories you're…
  • Pesto mayonnaise is sooooo good! Or mixed in with sour cream on a baked potato!
  • Oh, thank God! I was wondering what the hell I could have done to make someone think I'd welcome that kind of thing.
  • Are you planning on trying to burn 1000 calories per workout on a regular basis? Because that's going to burn you out pretty quick. Even if it worked, as soon as you stopped doing it you'd be right back where you started. What's the point of doing something so extreme to lose that you'll just gain it back eventually…
  • I don't accept any friend requests, as that's not a part of this site I have interest in. I did get a weird message nonetheless though from a guy who was like "Hey, chin up girl you're beautiful and you've got this," which was odd since I haven't posted anything indicating that I'm struggling with...well, anything, really.…
  • I eat Vietnamese food at least once a month. :) We have a Pho place by my house and we're regulars. It's really not much of a stretch if you already like Chinese or Thai.
  • Oh, agreed! I'm not even very tall (5"2'), but I think I'm maintaining on 1800-2000 because I'm pretty active for my age: 2 days/wk: Full body heavy lifting routine that includes several compounds lifts like squats, deadlifts, etc. 2 days/wk: Run for 30 minutes followed by 30 minutes of bodyweight/light weight training 1…
  • 5 days a week, a combination of cardio and heavy lifting.
  • I eat around 1800, which according to my TDEE is supposed to be a 200 calorie deficit. I'm really in maintenance right now, but I try to eat at 1800 to give myself some wiggle room since I don't weigh my food or track regularly. Seems to be working so far - my weight fluctuates within three lbs but I've seen no actual…
  • I doubt it. My family and I watch tons of cooking and food related shows together. All of us are of a healthy weight for our height.
  • That is really weird - I was just at the grocery store, and all of the asparagus they has was the thin kind. Two months ago it was all thick, fibrous stalks that I dislike, especially at a premium price.
  • Because sometimes they have physical limitations that require them to hold onto the rails, as I and several others in this thread have already attested to.
  • Because it makes you feel superior to them that you don't have to anymore?
  • It made me giggle in retrospect later too, especially since the guy didn't get injured or anything. When I was working with my personal trainer, she told me that everyone in the free weights area was really awesome, and if I ever needed a spotter or got in trouble on a lift they would all come running. So it was kind of…
  • At the gym I am way too focused on myself and my goals to even notice what other people are doing. The only time I ever watch other people is when I want to use something that they're using, like the squat rack, and I'm just keeping an eye out as to when they're done. Okay, there was that one time when a guy failed with a…
  • Thank you! Just this week I was able to go from bench pressing with dumbells to doing so with the bar. I may not be that strong, but I'm getting stronger and that's really what it's all about for me.
  • As long as someone isn't doing something that negatively affects my own workout (i.e., not wiping down benches, hogging a bench or machine while texting for long periods of time, not re-racking their weights, etc.), I don't care what other people do at the gym. I'm there for my own workout, not to judge other people's.…
  • Of course, the inevitable "Women only like jerks and never appreciate nice guys" post.
  • Not sure how old you are, but I'm 44 and I have no problem with the OP looking for support wherever she may be able to find it, to help her through what sounds like a really difficult time in her life. How nice for you that you that you have whatever support you need in your personal life that that's not the case for you.…
  • +1 Personally I treated myself to a piece of carrot cake the other day that was probably 400-500 calories on its own, and it left me with plenty of calories for the rest of the day to meet my goals. I eat very small breakfasts (a cup of greek yogurt and coffee with a little half&half and sugar) because I have little…
  • Out of season produce tends to be rather expensive here in the Midwest. Asparagus is a rare treat in the winter months for us, but in spring/summer it's cheap as hell so we eat tons of it. It also seems to be easier when it's in season to get the thinner stalks instead of the thick branches that show up around November.
  • My hubby and I recently had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings at a fantastic restaurant. I logged it as 3000 calories and moved on with my life. One of the best meals of my life, and I have no regrets!
  • My favorites are the Bolthouse Farms yogurt based dressings. Most of them are 45 calories a serving as well, and they don't have the weird mouth feel that I experience with most other low-cal dressings.
  • I like both, but prefer asparagus. I marinate the stalks in white wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and then grill or roast in the oven. And now that spring is here, asparagus is down to $1.99 a lb instead of the usual $4.99lb.
  • I'm so glad you updated this! Not only for you, but I found my own post where I said that I was only squatting the bar. I'm now squatting 75lbs - not a ton, but not bad progress for less than two months!
  • I'm on week 8. I thought I was going to die when I first started, but the program really does do a great job of building up your endurance. Just heed what the others above have said, and take it slow. Even after all these weeks, my max speed is still only 5mph.
