I think this is a great way to look at it. Also I figure everything happens for a reason. Some peoples' battles are invisible and some, like weight, are VERY visible. But everybody has something that they struggle with, regardless of whether it can be seen.

Yeah grad school made me turn to self-medicating stress with food as well. It was because of me; being healthy just wasn't on my top priority at the time and I was not managing my stress effectively. It is a really hard time of life. Congrats on getting it back together! :) I'm pretty much doing the same thing

I think it is okay to accept that this journey will NOT be perfect and that mistakes WILL be made. Nothing wrong with that. The only way to fail is to just stop trying. Congrats on trying again!

There's a big difference between the kind of drinks... Some have a lot of extra ingredients besides the alcohol. I would say know in advance if you are going out, and save some calories/look up drink calories beforehand...Then, even if you drink 500-calories worth of beverages, you will still have a deficit.
