  • Cutting carbs back is a good thing, but the only thing you can can effectively use to replace carb calories is fat. If you replace the calories with more protein, your body will metabolise the extra protein into glucose using gluconeogenesis which defeats the purpose of low carb in the end since you will not enter ketosis.…
  • My maintenance calories are 2250 and I was eating 1200-1500 but ranging wildly in a stall so I upped it to 1800 and have stabilised. It's a fine line between cutting to much and too little. Experiment with it to see which level works for you.
  • This article has been a great help and inspiration to me when I hit a stall. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html Basically your fat goes, and the former fat filled cells fill with water which will eventually leave in a "whoosh". It's why stubborn belly fat becomes squishy and lumpy.…
  • You probably just knocked yourself out of ketosis and your body had a sudden rush of sugar to deal with. Just have a BPC and go for a long walk. You'll be back in ketosis in a couple of days.
  • I sometimes add it to BPC (1 tbsp) and it makes it like a thickened, hot cereal drink.
  • I use it to make muffins, flax "bread" and flax porridge. It's one of those little keto secrets we should all know about.
  • You don't need to cut calories on Keto, within reason of course. If you forced 5000 cals of food down your throat every day you would gain no matter what. Most people on Keto naturally eat less anyway because of the satiating effect of a high fat diet. I often struggle to fit 1800 or so calories into my diet because I'm…
  • Everything in Australia is labelled net carbs anyway so that's what I use.
  • I think the general idea is not to over eat too much. Don't eat if you aren't hungry in a nutshell. Conversely, don't starve yourself. I've done 1000 calorie fat fasts, and eating over goal a few times and truth be told, it really doesn't make a difference. As long as the long term trend is down, not up you are doing it…
  • Ketostix are binary. Either in or out. Darker colour usually just means you need to drink more water, not that you're any deeper in Ketosis.
  • 40g is fine and is very unlikely to knock you out of Ketosis. Don't worry! :)
  • You are right about over eating. I just polished off a 1222 calorie lunch to complete an IF day, and I feel like I'm about to explode! I will likely still be full later tonight as it consisted of 92g of fat. :)
  • Carbs are simply not as filling as fat. Just cut the carbs out and replace those calories with fat and it will help.

  • Believe it or not, your numbers are spot on! It can take some people, a week or two to get into Ketosis depending on how much stored glycogen needs to be used up. You can accelerate the process by getting out there for a walk to burn some off to force your body to start ketosis to get more energy. Have you had any other…
  • This is a fairly long lecture by Gary Taubes, a well known low carb proponent. Cutting calories is not necessarily going to help you lose weight. It all depends on what you eat and what your body does with it that counts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDneyrETR2o

  • I had a cheat day once and vowed never again. It was 4 days of hell.
  • Trimming is a part of my religious duty :) Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said that, 'He who does not remove bodily hair from below the navel, and does not trim the nails, and does not trim his moustache, is not one of us.' i.e.…
  • I routinely supplement Potassium and Magnesium because of the extra water I drink. The Sodium usually sorts itself out, but it looks like you need to be adding more salt to your food :)
  • While activity helps general health and well being, diet is the only way to sustainable weight loss and good health. It is right not to starve yourself. Eat natural, cut unnecessary carbs, eat healthy fat and adequate protein to lose and stay healthy!
  • Sydney here but I'm originally from Perth! G'day WA! :)
  • I never had a dog but I did have a Rabbit called "Arfur" so mine is "Arfur Driffield". That's a bit unexciting as a porn name lol.
  • HIT isn't the exercise for a low carb diet. You want sustained effort rather than bursts. Walking, especially hiking/bushwalking is perfect especially if there are some steep climbs and rock scrambling. Weight and resistance training are also good. You just don't need to stress yourself out with red faced cardio bursts…
  • Low carb. When Bacon and Eggs for breakfast and Strawberries and Cream for desert become health food. I just love a diet that lets me eat stuff I enjoy (oh Camembert, how I love thee) and still lose weight without much exercise and I continue to astound the doctor with the blood work results which are bang on perfect. I…
  • There is no conspiracy. I'm a large T-Shirt at K-Mart, but I'm an XL button up shirt in the same store! (K-Mart and Target for interim and goal clothes ftw lol). I have some more expensive shirts from a hemp fashion place and the large is just right on some shirts but a bit big on a different shirt from the same shop. I…
  • Most of my snacks are 100-200cals. Today I've had some Droewors and Biltong totalling 174 cals and in a bit, I'm thinking a coffee with cream would go down well (100 cals). Later on, a piece of Camembert perhaps. :)
  • Do you track your coffees? I do. 100cal for each one with 30ml of cream in them. I resist most days and only have 2 or 3 cups when if I didn't hold back I would be having about 5 :)
  • I'm 100% keto and eating somewhere between 1500-1700 cals a day. Maybe my diary would help you? I do fat fasting sometimes though so don't be shocked :)
  • I get the no added sugar or salt version. A spoon of it is a great snack. Otherwise I use it in fat bombs.

  • About 0.5kg to go before I can leave obese behind but then it would be another 15kg to goal. I just need to break this plateau and have another whoosh :) Babysteps...
