  • Hi guys, sorry to resurrect an old post but how's everyone doing? I recently started taking oriental classes for the first time in years add my black sheep teacher is injured and I had an empty slot on Fridays.I'm really enjoying it though. My snake arms look terrible and need some work, but I can work on that at home.
  • Take the rest days. You aren't going to lose the ability to run whilst resting, and you will do yourself the world of good by allowing that cold to go away. I didn't take my own advice recently and tried to run a race with a heavy cold - last place was mine, and I've probably extended the life of the cold by another week.
  • I have been thoroughly rubbish at this challenge so far - haven't managed even a minute of dancing yet this month. :grumble: How is everyone else doing?
  • Look up DDP Yoga. It's not a pure yoga system, and it's based on various aspects of dynamic resistance, yoga, pilates and other cardio moves. The success stories are outstanding. I think you can probably try it before you buy it.
  • I have so fallen off the challenge wagon! Monday - thursday - nothing (bad me) Friday 1 August - Black Sheep class 90 minutes Saturday - Sunday - nothing In my defence I am packing up my house to move! I occasionally do happy dances (they count, surely)
  • Good for you Losingamy, I hope you enjoy it! When's your first class? Penny - ooh, lucky you!
  • What a lovely idea! How about some muscle rub ointment (tiger balm or something similar) for the days after the Tri?
  • I attended some excellent workshops over the weekend. I took classes with Dud Murmand from Denmark and Sabrina Hart from San Diego, and enjoyed both of them thoroughly. Dud's class was looking at "dark gypsy fusion", and looked at how to use the skirt as an extension of your dance, not just as a prop. We learned some…
  • Monday to Thursday - at least five minutes each day spent practising performance piece for Saturday Friday - rest day (not enough time to practice) Saturday - 4 hours of dance workshops, including skirt work and shimmies. Performance at open stage. Dancing at rock club afterwards. Sunday - 2 hours of dance workshop…
  • Monday 14 July - practiced performance piece three times in a row (approx 9 minutes) Tuesday 15 July - practice performance piece twice (approx 6 minutes) Wednesday 16 July - boogied around the kitchen whilst cooking (approx 10 minutes) Thursday 17 July - actual troupe practice (approx 10 minutes of dancing) Friday 18 July…
  • I was going to ask if you get to wear trainers or not...?
  • However you want to do it ladies - it's your challenge
  • I guess it depends if you want a specific date to finish by, or if you just want to get started on it. If we just want to get started, how about next Monday 14 July? That way we would be finishing on 11 October. I don't know how people do challenge groups and stuff - maybe we should just post in this topic, or start a new…
  • Someone in the office brought in clotted cream fudge, and I haven't eaten any of it  I can get through a packet of it in one sitting if I let myself!!
  • I still get excited about performing, and I can't count the number of times I've danced!
  • Oooh I'm envious! I would love to go, and I know lots of girls from the UK who do go, but it's just so far to go!
  • I've only ducked under 30 minutes once at 5km, and saw spots for a while after, so I can't really help massively. I would suggest Hal Higdon's training plans (easily found on google) as he is pretty much a running god.
  • I played some Hossam Ramzy to an archaeologist friend of mine who has spent a lot of time in Egypt, and she said it sounded just like Egyptian taxi music
  • Ack, this article made me quite annoyed. If anyone is being racist, I feel it is the author of the article, even if that is not her intention. I also didn't feel it was a very well written article.
  • Two words for you - Hal Higdon. He has some of the best training advice for novice runners I've seen. I wish I had followed his training when I did the Birmingham half marathon last year, but I will be following it for the Stratford upon Avon half in 12 weeks time! I'm aiming for 2.5 hours.
  • Hi Ally, glad you could join us. We're a friendly bunch here, if not necessarily on line all the time! Why not tell us a bit more about your interest in dance- how you started, what style you do, and stuff like that :)
  • I usually choose topics I'm interested in, although sometimes I just choose a workshop because a certain teacher is taking it and I know it will be good to do and useful in the long run. I'm a sucker for saidi workshops, I just love swinging a cane around, especially if it's got a particularly folkloric slant on it (the…
  • I see the bling ankle bandage there ;)
  • The music is by an artist called Mad Manoush, and it's very...French sounding. We worked up a minute of choreography yesterday which was pretty pleasing.
  • Lilithnoor and I are currently working up a "city gypsy parisienne" type outfit involving ridiculously large pantaloons!
  • It was going ok until Sunday just gone, when I got struck down with a heavy chest cold and I haven't been able to move since. And, because I've been feeling sorry for myself, I've been eating more than I should. Back on it with a vengeance next week when I can move without trying to cough a lung up!
  • Khoshgeleh - was it Alexis? She's an excellent dancer. I've not taken classes with her, although I really wanted to start doing Unmata style with her. I just haven't got the time or money to do all the things I want to do. If RB does any open level workshops i'm totally going to sign up for them. Even if she doesn't, I'm…
  • It was called Daily Drills for Life, it came at the end of a whole weekend stuffed with belly dancing, and it wore me out and broke my brain!! I did find out there was one thing I could do which she struggled with, which was a minor delight (I can't remember now what it was), but on the whole my body didn't want to do the…
  • Izanami, I took a workshop with Ariellah in July. I think perhaps I was over-tired after a weekend of intensive belly dance workshops, but it was the hardest, most unenjoyable experience I've had in belly dance, and I was seriously thinking about sneaking out all the way through it. However, loads of other people…
