DDP Yoga
Does anyone out there have any experience of DDP Yoga? DDP (Diamond Dallas Page) is a former pro-wrestler who has developed his own system of yoga blended with other types of exercise. I'm kinda tempted, but before I drop $120 on the first pack of DVDs, I'm just looking to see if anyone has tried it. Sure, I've read the…

September belly dance challenge!
Ok - it's 1 September. Let's try and kick start the shimmies with 30 days of dancing every day!
-
90 day belly dance challenge - it's tough!
Ok, we all seem to agree that the 90 day belly dance challenge is very tough. I agree with one of the comments that maybe we should do a 30 day challenge to start with - would anyone be interested in starting that on 1 September? 5 minutes a day, every day, for the whole of September? I haven't done a thing over the past…

Summer dance plans
What are your dance plans for the summer? I'm currently rehearsing like crazy with my troupe to get ready for Gothla UK at the end of July. One thing I discovered last night - it is waaay hot and humid for full dress rehearsal!!!

90 day belly dance challenge - week 2 (21 July - 27 July)
Ready for days 7-14...
-
90 day belly dance challenge - week 1 (14 July - 20 July)
Ok, I don't know how to do these challenges, but if someone more technical can think of a better way to do it I'd be happy to hear it. Until then, post up here with your five minutes of dancing! Doesn't have to be pure belly dance - it can be twerking for five minutes if you so desire! It's gotta be body moving, whether…

90 day belly dance challenge
I heard about this today for the first time ever. The idea is to belly dance for at least 5 minutes a day, for 90 days consecutively. Anyone else doing this or heard about it?

Tribal Fest 2014 - who went?
Did anyone go to Tribal Fest this year? I've been watching some of the videos on youtube when I get a chance. I've heard varying reports back from people I know who went and I'd really like to go some time :)

belly dance gripes
We all have them, something that really bugs us that is associated with our hobby. Get it off your chest here. I'll go first with these two: 1. The DJ starting your music when you are performing BEFORE you are ready. Happened to me and my troupe mates last night, and it put me off my stroke. 2. You tell someone you do…

christmas is approaching - how are you going to cope?
That sounds overly dramatic, but bear with me. If like me, you have zero willpower when it comes to all the yummy goodness that is associated with this time of year, what are your plans for counteracting it? How are you going to stop those shimmies from turning into uncontrolled wobbles? I for one have re-started the 30…

Dancing outside
There's something just so nice about dancing outside when the sun is shining, the breeze is gently blowing and there's an audience watching. I danced with my Black Sheep class group yesterday at a community fun day and it was really quite lovely. We danced with a local drumming group providing the accompaniement, and…

BlackSheep BellyDance
Hi all. I recently went to a weekend of workshops with Kajira Djoumahna, the founder of BlackSheep BellyDance, and it was absolutely fantastic. I got the opportunity to learn directly from Kajira, listened to her give a history of tribal style belly dance in America, practice some moves with zills, practice specific…

Your next performance
When is everyone performing next? If you don't perform (if you're still learning, if you're too busy etc), do you think you would like to? I'm doing a duet with a troupe member on saturday afternoon at a local sparkle sale and mini hafla. It's hopefully going to be a very relaxed event, I might even get to sell some bling…

that moment when you revisit an old choreography...
And you realise you can't remember how to do some of the moves. Eesh! I'm performing on the weekend with a friend, just a casual daytime hafla but the first performance for a while, and I'm going to practice with her tonight, but dang, I can't remember some of the moves. Tunisian hip twist? Cross over steps to the…

Dancing goals for the year
So, belly buddies, what are your dancing goals for the year? Personally, I would quite like to get back to dancing after suffering a quite unpleasant back injury just before christmas, but only when the pain has subsided enough to feel comfortable with it. At the end of last year I was starting to feel quite disillusioned…

Wolf Run 6/7 April
Any one doing the Wolf Run in a couple of weeks in Leamington? I'm signed up for the Sunday run at 1225

your favourite dancers
Ok ladies, tell me who your favourite belly dancers are. If I haven't heard of them, I'm going to look them up on youtube and watch them do their thing. And hell, even if I have heard of them, I'm still going to go and look them up! I want to know who inspires you, and what it is about them that inspires you. And in…

knee pain - massage tips?
Just below my left knee (about 2 inches maybe), on the outside, I am experiencing pain. It hurts most going up and down stairs. I suspect it's due to an increase in jogging that I'm doing. Anyone got any good massage tips? I'm rice-ing it as much as I can and I don't want to take too many painkillers.

Provision pie
Last year I went to the caribbean. Amongst the amazing food I sampled out there, provision pie stands out to me as one of the best. Does anyone out there have a good recipe for it? I've bought a yam and I'm ready to go! I've seen a few recipes on websites, but I want to know what works for you!

The Wolf Run April 2013
http://www.thewolfrun.com/ I'm entering this with a team of people from work. Anyone else interested?

BUPA Great Birmingham Run (aka Birmingham Half)
Anyone doing this? My husband is signed up for it, and I'm tempted to sign up as well just to see if I can do it. I have a training plan that I'm not afraid to use, and I fully accept it'll be a run/walk affair (more walking I suspect than running).

Belly dance challenge - shimmies
Anyone up for a challenge? I am currently being taught a cheeky little Egyptian number at class, and one of the shimmies we are doing is an Egyptian shimmy that is very much driven by the knees rather than the hips. Get into your dance posture - feet hip width apart, pelvis tucked to neutral, ribs lifted. You start off…

Datura Online
I don't know how many of you already know about this, but Rachel Brice has launched Datura Online which is online belly dance classes, any time and any where. www.daturaonline.com I've signed up for the mailling list and I'm interested to see what this is all about. I can't see that there's much else on the website at teh…

Hilde Cannodt
Hi all. This weekend I had the pleasure and privilege of attending a workshop run by Hilde Cannodt, a Belgian belly dancer who is based in Brighton, England. We were learning a couple of flamenco inspired combinations, using big skirts and flamenco attitude. It was absolutely fantastic, and best of all, she brought her…

buying a swiss fitness ball
I'm considering buying one of these swiss fitness ball things. There's a lot of choice out there, and I don't know what the most important features should be. It's great that they are tested to 500kg loads, and are anti burst, and the sizes are suitable for different heights...but I'm still a wee bit bamboozled by the…

what lovely weather we're having
If it all vanishes tomorrow then I accept the blame for it, I bought summer shoes today as I didn't fancy sweating in my doc martens. :flowerforyou:

BD DVDs
I've borrowed a friend's shimmy workout dvd and I'll be giving it a go tonight. I've got another dvd by the same woman (Sarah Skinner) which was quite fun, so it could be entertaining. What belly dance work out dvds do you like? I have the following: Serpentine : yoga and belly dance by Rachel Brice Arms carriage and…

What dances are you working on at the moment?
Pretty self explanatory title I think  At the modern oriental/cab class I go to on Wednesdays I'm currently learning Egyptian techniques with a view to learning a drum solo that our teacher is working on. She likes to do different stuff, so I think it might be drum solo with a twist! My fusion troupe hasn't done much…
