Been away, over a year; struggling to get back. Played a matched last night. Though won 6-4, 6-1. Was definitely feeling it. Remembering what its like being more physically fit vs an overweight tennis. 1) Get fatigued a lot faster. Two sets are okay-ish. Third set wipes me out for a day. When I was in better shape; 3 sets…

Missed the post. Would have shouted out earlier. Was there, got the t-shirt. Currently, I am very much out of shape, my time was 1:47 (worst personal time); then again babying an injured knee. Been participating since late 1990s (except for one year).

Got up, been there, done that, and got the t-shirt :) Saw the free beer and pizza after mile marker 3-ish, if I recall correctly.

First, re-learning the backhand sounds like a good start. Preferably under the guidance of a pro or coach. There are different ways to get tennis elbow. However, the most common is hitting the ball improperly. We all have our own strokes and style. Sometimes its good, and sometimes not so good. A pro or coach can help…

Congratulations, Sounds like you're finding your game! Don't analyze it; accept it. Learn ways/techniques that help you get into that "zone."

If I saw an opponent chug two cans a beer. Its time to change my game plan and just make them run side to side. Keep them running until they get sick. And while they're puking, I'll try to hide my sinister cheshire cat grin. The poster has a good point. Some do drink to get loose and calm themselves down. That's a good…

Some players have a game that ebbs and flow throughout the match. Some think that one point is more important than others. For example, some think that love all is just the beginning of the game and the point is not as critical as playing ad-in or add-out. However, when playing competitively, treat each point as a point…

1. Have you compared the calories burned between the heart rate monitor and those from MFP? Are they close or way off? 2. Flip Flops sounds great idea! Whenever I drive a long distance, I'll put on a pair of sandals for the long drive back home; or to watch the rest of the team play their matches.

Water, Water, Water During the off season, I am very bad about keeping my body hydrated. However, weeks before starting a new season (especially summer), I start ramping up my water intake from about 8 to 10 cups per day to about a gallon per day. Yeah, you will take more trips to the bathroom for a week or two. But when…

5-3? Very similar to the infamous 5-2 voodoo. There are so many times a player (or team) loses with a 5-2 lead or digs themselves out from 2-5 hole. A lot of it is mental more than physical. Too often do players feel that they have "already won" but the set isn't over yet. We tend to think that we have it in the bag and…

Yep, time traveler here. But currently stuck on travelling forward and at one-second at a time. :grumble:

non player. Doesn't understand why I love to hit so much. She is good about supporting me when I lose a match or comes out to watch me play during the big matches (e.g. City Finals, etc.)

Typically my reply would be YES. However, we have a new born son. So limiting my tennis to just one league. So this winter I will be sitting out. Hope to sign up in the spring. As for burning calories, oh yeah it does. I had been away from Ultimate Tennis (formerly K-Swiss) and started back when I joined MFP. That first…

About a year ago, changed to the Head Prestige Mid. I started breaking strings way too often with my previous rackets. The worse time was breaking a string a day after getting restrung. (Do not think those were even pro-line rackets.) My choice in getting the Head Prestige was partly my playing style and also getting a…

I LOVE tennis. Just getting out on the court is good for me. When playing competitively, I tend to lean towards playing singles more often. Mostly because of the flex leagues. Far easier to schedule a match between two people than among four. For me, doubles offers a change of pace, and more social aspect. There is a huge…

You're such a good doggy.

ALTA (Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association) is very social oriented. Not as competitive as other leagues. People usually get together for fun and drinks. USTA and Ultimate Tennis (a.k.a. KSwiss) are much more serious and are very good at weeding out those who sandbag. Other leagues, League Tennis, is new and is similar to…

Apologies, just go around to reading the Tennis Junkies group. Not sure what you mean by having matches or group play. Can you elaborate? As for me, most of my tennis matches/play is through the local tennis leagues here in Atlanta. Right now, its winter time so there is not a lot of enthusiasm from the weekend player.…

Its all about expectations. I blame the TV shows. Too many people have developed an irrational expectation that everything in IT happens immediately, and auto-magically. Seriously, how many c-level or VP level folks expected an over-the-air download to their black-berry to go as quickly as Jack Ryan asking the CTU for blue…

Err...nobody is perfect. But if its really that bad, it sounds like you have three boys, the two you've given birth to and the first one you married. Honestly, I really do not think that any man wants to be "that guy" consciously. Let's face it, its hard for us to ask for directions, read instructions when some assembly is…

The answer to your question and fear is YES. There are so many different types of people out there in this world. Some will laugh; and some maybe territorial and wonder why you are at "their" gym. These people are very few. However, for every one of those people, there ARE many more who are supportive and welcoming. (Just…

See me next season (Winter/Spring 2012), I should be bumped up to 3.5 or 4.0. I will have to work harder for my points and, in turn, burn more calories. Also, looking forward to hitting with higher rated players. Looking forward to developing better control, changing pace, adding more shots to my bag of tricks, and…

When checking in each week, there is a link on my list to allow me to include other measurements as well as edit past entries. Could you try going into "My Home > "Check-In" > "Change Measurements"? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/measurements/change

Holy cow! I just discovered the MFP Groups this morning. So glad to see one already created for tennis enthusiasts. I'm Doug from Atlanta, GA and consider myself an avid tennis player (not just someone who plays tennis). Starting playing with my step-father and brother when I was kid. Then when I moved to Atlanta, I got…

I'm a database developer with experience in MS Access, SQL Server. I've also had some experience in the DBA role, but limited. Also familiar with SSIS, SSRS and of course SSMS. Member of SQL user groups such as PASS, Atlanta MDF, and Atlanta BI (business intelligence) I'm at the point where I need to start picking a…

At the beginning of this year, my "big-boy clothes" felt snug. Then was shocked to see that I was nearly 300 lbs. Told my wife that I didn't want to try another diet. Especially where you loose 10 to 20 pounds in a month or two. Only to find yourself gaining those pounds back then some. So, simply trying to assess my…

One of my goals is to do something that I could not do when I started losing weight. Take a bi-plane ride, or go skydiving. There is a weight limit which I had previously exceeded.

Congratulations for having one bad diet day. I tend to have a string of them...less now than before. What I try to do is remember that it is just one day. It happens and acknowledge that this one "bad" day does not ruin anything. Also, it does not represent everyday eating habits. That's what I try to do. And I am getting…

Don't just do it. Get it done!

Guessing very little. Would you consider it strength/muscle training (small compared to aerobic exercises)? Or aerobic training (much greater burn). Not sure if 5 minutes is long enough to get your heart rate up to get a good burn going. If you can get your hands on a decent HRM (heart rate monitor). Check it out.…
