Returning to MFP
Hello group, hopefully there are those still around. A quick glance at the group shows that the last posting was back in 2014!!! Personally, I have been away from MFP. Would like to return and shed some weight. My tennis is suffering. I KNOW that when the weight is lost, my game will improve dramatically. Currently, I…

Evening Tennis - Planning the Day's Calories
Often times when playing, its during the evening. I have two single matches scheduled this week, first is tonight (Thurs) at 7 p.m. and the second is Friday night also at 7 p.m. In the past, the assumption that at least 500 calories would be burned. Knowing that twice or three times that amount, depending on number of sets…

Bag Check
What's in your bag for this summer? In additional the obvious (e.g. Racquets, Cans of balls (opened and unopened), and sports towel), here's what I've got: Extra t-shirt and socks (for third set if necessary) 3-4 hats (one per set; b/c of the sweat) 3-4 wrist bands (same reason as above) 3 32oz bottles of water (usually…

Calories Per Day : Fat vs Muscle
Recently I have heard that Fat burns around 3 to 6 calories per day; while muscle burns around 30 to 50 calories per day. Has anyone else heard of this? Are these numbers correct? Is there a distinction of type of muscles (lean vs. bulk)?

2012 - Tennis Players!
Okay, its been several weeks since I've played. Currently I am between tennis seasons. And this tennis junkie in a real need for a fix. I hope to invite others that I know around here to brave the weather and hit the ball around. In 2011, it was a good year for tennis. I played in several leagues and won the division title…

Fit to Hit - Tennis Channel
Okay, must admit that I have been passing this gem of a show a few too many times. However, I did watch the recent episode with Gil Reyes and nutrition for tennis. (Excellent tidbits of information on training physically and mentally. Then followed-up by the best foods to fuel your body and brain.) Now I am trying to find…

MFP Helps Me with My Game (NSV)
This is a NSV but instead of posting it on the main boards, thought the fellow tennis enthusiast would appreciate it more. Background Early this year, when starting MFP, I wanted to increase my activity level. Having been an active tennis player in years past, but away from the sport for so long, I thought I would join a…

Tennis for Kids
First, I'm not a parent .... yet. But we're hoping to be someday in 2012. But for you parents who love tennis. I wanted to pass along one of USTA's newest tennis programs designed for kids. http://www.usta.com/Youth-Tennis/Home/ and http://www.10andundertennis.com/ The concept was simple. Many felt that a tennis court, the…

Help - Need Verification/Validation
Background Starting back in February, I have lost 56 pounds; going from 296 to 240. Most of that time, the weight loss was right around the targeted goal of 2 lbs per week. Current Problem Unfortunately, for the past several weeks, I have been teetering around the 240 lbs mark. I am guessing that this is a plateau or one…

... you might be addicted to MFP.
A twist on Jeff Foxworthy's, "...you might be a redneck"; let's have some fun and come up with a one-liner that indicates a person might be addicted to MFP. Example: When someone you know is struggling with weight loss and is frustrated with their plateau.... you respond, 'are you eating your calories back.'..... you might…

Holiday Season - Too Soon To Plan?
A famous quote reads, "If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail." This is quote has truly hits home when it comes to planning goals for the week, planning calories to consume and burn for the day. Let's face it, when you have an idea of what to expect, you simply can adjust your meals and/or activities to meet your…

"Elvis" - The Sandwich
Typically my food cravings have been what I consider normal (e.g. donuts, pies, anything chocolate, pizza, etc. etc.). All of which I am happy to report are being dealt with in moderation or elimination. I am eating healthier and wiser. However, the other day I discovered a new axis of evil within the food realm, "The…

Need clarification on remaining calories to eat.
Okay, I understand that this question comes up a lot, but to honest I get a bit confused at times. So, I am asking clarification for the following example: Its towards the end of the day. I have it in my head that its ideal to get your "Net Calories" to be around 1200. However, if I eat my remaining calories (653), my "Net…

Our Bodies - Super Fuel Efficient
I was just thinking about my weight loss goals, and going for 2 lbs per week; which equates to 1,000 calorie deficit. Then thought about calories being a unit of measure for energy. Doing a quick internet search, learned that 1,000 Calories [nutritional] = 0.031 gallon [U.S.] of automotive gasoline. Imagine how far you can…

C25K - Help with Understanding
Wife and I did W1D2 yesterday; using the iPhone app. (I like that it tells me when to run and when to walk. It maintains a journal, and calculates calories burned. The only thing I need to do is to improve my playlist.) Before starting C25K, we did a internet search and found at least three different versions of the…

Seriously; Is that correct?!?!? Reality Check Please...
HELP!!! Reality check needed here. I've taken up tennis again. Gotten myself into several local leagues. This morning I played a singles match (3.0 level). It went on to three sets (I won, woo hoo), 4-6, 7-2 (tie break) and 6-2. We started at 9:00 a.m. and ended after 11:00 a.m. I figure with court changes and such, I got…

Two Month Progress - WOW
Last year, I started buying larger clothes. My big boy clothes were loose fitting at first; and eventually I did grow into them (too much in fact). In January/February this year, those clothes became too snug, so I went to the scale to see what was happening. I weighed in at 296 pounds! The most I ever did in my life. I…
