"Elvis" - The Sandwich

Typically my food cravings have been what I consider normal (e.g. donuts, pies, anything chocolate, pizza, etc. etc.).
All of which I am happy to report are being dealt with in moderation or elimination. I am eating healthier and wiser.

However, the other day I discovered a new axis of evil within the food realm, "The Elvis." Have you ever heard of this sandwich before? Personally, I could not believe that I have never heard of this before, especially after decades of eating junk foods, fried foods, and high fructose foods.

This is a sandwich, by its very description sounds unappealing. After a quick internet search, it was discovered that there are actually several variations on the recipe. Essentially, its grilled white bread, with peanut butter, bananas and bacon (some variations are not grilled, and some include other items such as honey). After a few bites, I could not believe how wonderful it tasted. I learned two things, one bacon and peanut butter really do go together well; and two why the "King" struggled with weight in his later years. Now, its several days later and I find myself wanting another "Elvis". This craving has me perplexed and mostly laughing at myself so thought I'd post it under "fun."

Finally, an afterthought, is it just me, or does it seem that every sandwich named after a famous person tends to be on the unhealthy side?
Can anyone tell me a name of a celebrity sandwich (or any dish or food item) that is actually healthy? Does Chris Powell, Bob Harper or Jillian Michaels have a plate of food named after them?

If Jillan Michael's had anything named after her it'd be something like "Jillian's shred lettuce"....

So how do you make your Elvis? turkey bacon, etc?

There used to be a sub shop, I want to say in Dallas (I've lived many places, and it was long ago), that actually offered the peanut butter, banana & honey sub. I never put bacon on mine (back then), but OoOo La La, it was tasty! And I have everything but the bananas now.

I just bought some organic honey from a Himalayan tribe so this would be a perfect way to "break in" the jar!

And yes - Celebrities are typically known for their indulgences, not their discipline. Jillian would be the exception. ;)

Actually, that's pretty good. I like that.

As for the Elvis. Take two slices of white bread, butter one side of each for grilling.
Then in the middle, peanut butter, sliced banana and a couple of strips of bacon.

I suppose turkey bacon would be a tad better. But with the grilled butter on white bread and peanut butter; I figure, for me at least, what's the point.

I am not going out to grab an "Elvis" anytime soon (at least that's what I keep on telling myself); and I probably won't. Until the desire abates, I'll keep myself fed with "good" foods and keep myself busy with hobbies. (Hey just learned something, recognizing cravings is actually good. I can ward off the monster by satiated by body with other things.)

However, if or when I do (may it be three months down the road, or longer *crosses finger*), I wonder two things. One will it be worth it, and two will it actually taste as good as I imagine it to be.

FYI, someone just reminded me of the Arnold Palmer drink, lemonade and ice tea. That sounds pretty healthy.

I prefer a John Daly (bourbon, tea, and lemonade).

The Chivito sandwich is not named after a person, but has a very interesting background and is probably the best sandwich I've ever had. It is the national dish of Uruguay and contains the following: Filet Mignon, ham, a fried egg, olives, roasted peppers, mozzarella or provolone, on a French roll.

    Get it.
