There are foods that you expect to be high in calories, and knowing that, its not much of a shock. However, my biggest shock was Margaritas. Holy Moley. 230+ per 8 oz.!!! After learning that, gravitated towards the low cal beverages.

Agreed, working out barefoot in the cleanliness of your home sounds fine. However, caution on going barefoot outdoors and especially at the gym. If you are really concerned about going barefoot during your workout. I wonder if a lighter shoe, as in water shoes or Yoga socks, would be a viable alternative? Then again, you…

It helps to find like-minded group. Not only in goals, but in attitude. Happy to hear that you're sticking with it, and huge KUDOS on coming back. Everyone, a round of applause. Remember, what Rocky says, "Its not about how hard you hit, but how you hard you get hit and come right back." (okay, paraphrasing).

Once almost thought I had a super-power. I could make red-lights turn green by staring at them. But have several, #1 Absolutely would love to time travel. I'm a big fan (not just because I'm a big guy) of time travel stories. However, there's that whole "butterfly effect." How does anyone learn from bad…

Let's be honest, its not necessarily a "diet" you're going on; that's so temporary. You're changing your life for the better and CONGRATULATIONS!!! What's works for me is watching my portions and eating healthy foods. (For me, healthy foods aren't the "diet foods" some of those come with a high price of sodium and honestly…

My lifestyle is mostly sedentary and don't consider myself on any exercise routine. However, I am trying to get more activity and less of a couch potato. For me, what's helping is playing tennis. Its a hobby that I loved years ago. Recently, I've joined two local leagues; which gets me out to play 2 to 3 times a week.…

Congratulations on joining and making a change. I also turned 40 last September. Back then, I only "sort of" felt that it was time for a change. However, it wasn't until February that I woke up and wanted to change. Finding MFP was purely by accident. Kudos to your friend that gave you a tour and the encouragement. When…

Hmm...wonder if there's a difference between, trimming, roller, brush, or sprayer. (Heck, just cleaning the sprayer can burn some calories.)

Thanks, I love Sushi. Anyone have a guide for Sashimi?

Thanks, it worked!

Here's the image. Woo Hoo; another success item! I've posted an image.

Been saving money to the side. Mainly for new clothes and slightly for rewards (e.g. new camera, new tennis equipment, etc.) Before anyone asks, what would I do with that money if I don't meet my goal. I really don't know or haven't counted on that; because failure is not an option.

Emma, I certainly feel the same way. For me, its not so much as exercising, but "working out." Exercising can include other activities which I enjoy a great deal, and never ever feel as if I'm working out. I am not going to knock exercising, because 1) it works, 2) done right it can make you feel wonderful. However, the…

Wouldn't it be awesome if programs such as these were available (even for rental) through online streaming (e.g. Amazon, Netflix, DirecTv In-Demand, etc.)

I was a big, big addict of both Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Back in college, when I was making my transition from my fit-army-body towards the body I had a month ago; I was drinking 3 to 4 cans of soda per day minimally. Then I ween myself down to a can a day, then eventually drinking soda only when going out to dinner; which…

Opps apologies, hit "Post Reply" too soon. Wanted to follow-up by saying. We've (wife and I) signed up for a 5K (walk/run) in April. So, I'm getting up early to prepare.

I can relate. I'm leaving the house at 5:30 a.m. to get to work at 6:00 a.m. I've kept on telling myself that I'll workout when I get home. However, I keep on getting pulled away to do other "stuff." I may (or will) have to get up earlier. I haven't gotten out of bed at 4:00 for a workout since my time in the service.…

BMI? Every time I see or hear those letters, I also hear in the back of my mind, Donny Brasco saying, "forgetaboutit". I've never liked those height/weight tables. Seriously, when were the BMI tables created and last updated? Was it back in the day before we had a better understanding of muscles mass versus percent of fat?…

Not good job; but GREAT JOB!!!! My inner boy says, "hubba hubba" :) "Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art." You are becoming a masterpiece young lady.

I agree 100%. I'm an avid player as well and hoping to increase the number of times per week from 1 to 2 times up to 3 to 4 times (minimally). Before marriage, I was a strong 4.0 player, now, I'm a 3.0 (maybe 3.0-). Additional bonuses of tennis: * Fewer injuries than other sports. * Can played year-round (there's no…

My secret weapon, in general: Education Yeah, I'm learning everyday about: Nutrition how affects of calories from the foods that I love to eat how to keep up with my plan and not dwell on past mistakes how to plan, make a goal and follow it how its more about making choices than anything else....every "no" to a doughnut,…

Well said audjrey, and kudos to you. I can only add, your last night's binge was the exception, not the norm. Besides its so yesterday, live your plan today. Accept what's happened, and learn from it. (If there was a trigger to the "binge event", then learn to recognize the trigger to prepare yourself in the future.)…

Okay, I love this idea on two levels. One, it helps burn calories. Two, it helps me laugh at myself. As I am new, does this occur every Monday? Is it 2:30 Greenwich Mean Time or local?

Bonus Item (Side note: This is not necessarily a movie quote, but one of my favorites from a live concert. ) "...God gave you [man] a penis and a brain, and only enough blood to run one at a time."

Stephen King's "The Shining" "Self-realization. I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, '... I drank what?' "

Is that "To Kill a Mockingbird" ? "We're going to need a bigger boat."

Movies - Love Them I read many of the posting and find it hard to believe that people haven't seen some of the classics (e.g. Godfather movies, Star War movies, Sound of Music, etc.) I love movies and grew up at the right age where I enjoy the older movies (Thin Man, Casablanca, African Queen, Great Escape, etc.) For me, I…

I seem to be (err.. I am) GUILTY of the same thing. In the past, I would bring home foods that I thought we both would enjoy and shared. For example, buying Girl Scout Cookies was thought of as a treat and good thing. It something we enjoy, and I'm promoting a good cause (okay, that's just an excuse). Oh boy, has she let…
