  • This definitely applies to me as well. There are a couple of different things that have helped. The first (and most obvious) is drinking more water. The second is daily exercise. I used to HATE working out, but lately if I miss the AM gym I'm cranky and snacky all day. The third is to pick up another hobby to keep your…
  • This thread is lolcats
  • Thanks everybody for the encouragement! It makes me feel great to hear how many people really benefited from their treatment!
  • Sorry the meds aren't working out for you. That was my reaction to Lexapro when I tried it. It really is a lot of trial and error. I was thinking that maybe Wellbutrin might be worth a shot for me since I already struck out with one of the SSRIs. Hope you start feeling better soon!
  • Good to know. I had some trouble coming off of the Lexapro a few years ago too. This is all definitely going to be discussed with my doctor!
  • Thanks so much for the encouragement. I think I have a pretty solid plan for managing my mental health at this point, and that will always come before weight loss for me. I think a lot of my weight loss issues are rooted in mental issues, so the two are definitely linked in my case. I feel you on the staying in bed and…
  • That's fantastic! Did you find that it kept you from sleeping at all or did you just feel energized and refreshed? Low energy is one of my biggest struggles these days.
  • I totally get that, and I'm working on it. I'm in therapy and I have all of the necessary support. However, part of depression for me includes mindless, often emotional eating. My weight loss goals aren't aggressive or unrealistic and I think having a healthy body will make it easier to have a healthy mind. What I'm really…
  • I don't know your height and weight stats, but 1200 may very well be just fine for you. Be sure and make sure you're getting a good amount of fat and protein though. If you wind up needing more calories to hit those macros, then definitely up your calorie count. When I was on 1200, I had to let myself have more cheat meals…
  • I don't have anything against margarine, but I much prefer the taste of butter. I actually use clarified butter (ghee) for high-heat cooking most of the time because it smokes at a much higher temp than butter.
  • This is something that I have made a point to try and fix starting TODAY. I work with a therapist for depression and generalized anxiety too. When I'm not doing well and make an attempt at restricting my food intake, I always wind up in a binge-type situation. So, to try and combat this I'm trying to treat my depression…
  • Wow suddenly MFP is just teeming with biochemistry experts
  • Enjoy your vacation, otherwise it won't feel like one. I look a 10 day vacation to an all inclusive and ate and drank as I pleased. I actually wound up losing weight because I was swimming and walking the beach all day. I mean this in the most respectful way possible, but five weeks is not a long time in the world of…
  • Literally salivating. Love these.
  • I usually only eat one formal meal per day. Everything else is snacks and "light meals" -- it works for me. However, that schedule isn't for everyone. Play around with your meal schedule a little bit and find what keeps you happy, satisfied, and under goal. It sounds like you've got a good attitude and I wish you best of…
  • this is five bites all over again
  • I feel like you would burn more calories doing a more intense workout without a sauna suit, and you would be more comfortable. If you want to burn more calories, do more work. That basic fact can't be changed with a wardrobe choice.
  • This likely depends on your height, but it's a very aggressive goal. Possibly doable! Either way, I wish you the best of luck and don't beat yourself up too badly if you wind up a few pounds short. All progress is good progress :)
  • Going to celebrate like a true American and eat everything in sight. I'm just being patriotic, guys.
  • I just went through the past two weeks in your diary, and it looks like you're netting under 1000 calories most days. I'm assuming that you overate by a good margin on days that you didn't log. This kind of behaviour, combined with what you describe as "obsessing" may be pointing to a problem with your perception of…
  • This happened to a very good friend of mine. She now can't wear any eye makeup while her lash line and eyelids heal. To be fair, the extensions looked amazing when they were on. I just don't know if it's worth the risk.
  • Age definitely plays a very large factor, and I mean that in the most respectful way possible. It looks like you're more than twice the OP's age so that would definitely lead to a discrepancy in the values MFP spits out.
  • Have to thank the OP for asking this question as I am in a somewhat similar situation (just beginning to add dedicated workout time and strength training to my schedule)! I will definitely take a look at those groups AND check out stronglifts :)
  • Missing breakfast and exercising fasted are totally fine things to do! And yes, it does mean that if you are a little hungrier later you can snag an extra snack. I usually don't eat until noon-1pm (and I'm up at 7am), and I've still lost plenty of weight.
  • In for the wacky responses that this is bound to get
  • I see a lot of really great advice on this thread so far. I fully believe you that 1500 calories in a meal can feel like a binge for you - from your photo it appears that you're a rather petite woman and a lot of the people saying "well I eat 1500 calories in a meal" are men trying to bulk muscle. Obviously their goals are…
  • It's personal choice. There's a lot of research out there that says it'll make you gain, but even more that says it won't. I personally use splenda in my coffee and have a diet coke every now and then and I don't think that's holding me back or triggering sugar cravings.
  • Well, that went south much more quickly than expected. In more ways than one.
  • Definitely! Spicy grilled Salmon with baby broccoli and sweet potatoes
