  • Does any of Sacramento's city pools or recreation centers have weights? I am in a different state, but our city has a pretty good pool and a passable rec center. I would think that Sacramento would also have ( I have always enjoyed my trips to Sacramento).

  • other options for paying... Check with your employer and insurance provider. Today some insurance providers and employers to offer monthly reimbursements for gym memberships. and i really think all Y's offer a sliding scale for low income. Go back... or call another Y in the region if the local one is not helping. If the…
  • I personally gave up all artificial sweeteners years ago because they made me hungry. I am one of those people that find artificial sweeteners seriously make me more hungry. I was gaining weight year after year and switched to artificial sweeteners in an effort to stop gaining weight. Instead my weight started going up…
  • Neither! Both are Disgusting !!!! true story: On a recent trip to a couple of southern states in the US it was almost impossible to get away from majo/miracle whip. I was shocked to see it on restaurant tables (wtf - for the entire day - what about food poisoning?). Anyway... I often (almost every time) I had to send an…
  • ^ This. If it helps... a year ago I was pretty much in the same boat as you. I was horribly out of shape, and to make it worse i had leg/back injury which made it impossible to even walk a full block. But i found i could bicycle.... So i started biking. I had great results and in a few weeks I was up to biking for half an…
  • ^ This. I fully understand what you are saying. I was also in bad shape. I started slow... wiith walking, and then start bicycling and water aerobics. Then I moved on to swimming (excellent if you have the opportunity) and yoga. Yoga is great and getting your body used to moving (but keep up with the aerobics). Basically i…
  • I was also worried about it. I did a bunch of reading on it, and from what I gathered if you lose weight slowly your skin will adjust. from my experience... I am 51 years old and have lost 62 lbs so far. I have about 25 left to go, and I do not have, nor expect to have loose skin. I have averaged losing about 1 lbs a week…
  • I generally prefer soups and salads. Or a half sandwich and soup... But for best sandwiches I recommend avoiding the "traditional" condiments, and use healthier and more nutritious alternatives. For example: avoid mayonnaise and go for hummus instead! Also don't forget about vegetarian entries... the same deli meats and…
  • cappuccino 1.5 slices of bacon fried polenta (w. the bacon fat -- yum!)
  • I got a followup question. There were a few days we had some snow in my town (over a lovely white winter long weekend!). So I was wondering can you count shoveling snow for cardio? I think i heard that 45 minutes of shoveling snow burns about 300 calories.
  • ^ Possibly it is this... and a deep habit ? chocolates = love ???? Three times i almost bought (more) chocolates for my love. But i stopped myself just as i was about to pay. doh--- and i did say "more" because I got her some Moonstruck truffles last week. I recommend you just be the hero to your co-workers and friends and…
  • That is odd. I have not had trouble finding whole fat, low fat or fat free at any of groceries around here. Could this just be a regional thing? I just switched myself back to full fat after reading a number of new studies showing you get more health benefits from full fat dairy than from non-fat. Yeah for me because full…
  • My advice would be to trust what your body is telling you and don't do as much to start. Start slow and work your way up. The same thing happened to me when I first started last July. So I just took a bit easier. I stepped back and slowly worked my way up. After a few weeks I was already noticing a huge difference and…
  • I am eating over 2000 calories a day and losing weight! To lose 1 lb. a week, MFP tells me I must net 1760 calories daily. So I average eating 2100 calories daily, and try to do about 500 calories of exercise a day... netting about 1600 calories daily. Technically i should be losing over a lb a week. Earlier on i was...…
  • ^ I like this ... and the ONE PLATE RULE except I usually don't tell everybody i am watching my cals. I usually only get one plate full. But I get 2 half plates. I do this for two reasons: 1) it forces me to eat slower eating a half plate at the same speed everyboy else is eating their overfull plates, and 2) i can go the…
  • You will find it changes because the barcode number is re-used. Companies will recycle or reuse "old" barcodes and use them for new products. This is common across industries and products: food, clothing, etc. Again this is fairly common place with companies with a large number of different products so they don't have to…
  • Why not just ice cream that with less than 200 calories a serving? Your other examples did not sound any healthier or better. For example a 1/2 cup of Breyers Vanilla All Natural Ice Cream is 140 calories. Yum! The other night I had just a half serving of ice cream and melted 2 squares of Lindt - 85% Dark Chocolate Bar…
  • ^ This is a most excellent post!
  • ^ This for me as well. But why you casting stones when your own diary is closed? Afraid to show that your actions do not match your words?
  • Research and Statistics indicate that eating breakfast is beneficial and help you maintain a healthy weight. http://www.mayoclinic.org/food-and-nutrition/expert-answers/FAQ-20058449 <-- and some nice references at bottom of page. http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/many-benefits-breakfast <-- no reference :(, but otherwise…
  • I do not do cheat days. I log everything and count all calories. With that said... there are some days I go over my goal. For example today I went 300 calories over my goal. But it is ok and I do not feel guilty about it. This weekend I had planned on having a couple of microbrews and a nice desert, so I ate under my goal…
  • ^ This is the most sensible advice/response on this thread.
  • Lots of data is available in MFP... On the website (not the app), scroll down to the very bottom of the "Food Diary" page and you will see a "View Full Report (Printable)" button. From their you can download/export all your food and exercise to a spreadsheet and do your own additional analysis and graphing from the raw…
  • Thank you ! Great idea... I will aim for a pant size of 32" or 34". I think i have about 20 lbs to go. I was a 30" to 32" in 20s (depending on the pants/slacks). I bought new 36" waist jeans a couple of weeks ago and they are already feeling loose, and I keep punching new holes in my belts. So weird... not till these last…
  • Thank you Ignaura, jwdieter, and Makepeasnotwar. I appreciate all of your advice. I am getting my body fat percentage measured again in about 12 weeks. That should help, especially in I will be closer to my goal by then. I think i will also set in my goal some measurements .
  • ^ This for me as well. But --- I am thinking of weighing myself once a week as I get closer to my goal weight.
  • A good tip... i got this tip soon after i started MFP and it really helped. So for most foods I eat (fruits, veggies, nuts) I put in "usda" in the search term. For example "banana usda".
