I am seeing posting and when looking at their food diaries it is a nightmare. Take it from an old lady who has lost a whole ton of weight in my life. I know how to do it just have a problem keeping it off because I am also a gourmet cook and I love to eat what I cook.
You can have bread but cut back to 2-3 slices a week and do whole wheat vs white. A little pasta goes a long way. You can have a slice or 2 of bacon a week. It won't kill you. I see people staying below their calorie intake but everything else is out of control. You need a balance. If you don't eat a good healthy diet you may lose but you are not making choices that are going to keep the weight off.
You don't have to deprive yourself but for God's sake stay out of McDonalds if you are serious. Learn how to cook. It is fun and you will feel much more satisfied. If you are eating packaged meals you are filling your body with sodium and crap that will make you sick. If anyone would like recipes let me know I will be glad to help you out. some of you are asking for a stroke or heart attack and I am not some kind of health nut believe me.
You know what's really funny? You don't write like a seventy year old at all. You write like someone who came of age in the last decade or two.
Why do you think that is, Nancy?0 -

OP: This is the reason many individuals keep their diary private. No one should judge what another consumes.
I also think you are contradicting yourself a bit because you say "If you don't eat a good healthy diet you may lose but you are not making choices that are going to keep the weight off." In the beginning of your post you said you have a problem keeping the weight off because you are a gourmet cook. So obviously you aren't eating a good, healthy diet either…
Just my two cents.0 -
Judge not lest ye be judged. Your diary is closed...
I LOVE JENNA!
And I agree...nice to preach with a closed diary. All it takes is a deficit in calories and moving your body. SMDH0 -

Depends what you ate at Mickey D's. Have you seen how those nuggets look before they're actually made? I used to love them, but can't do it anymore :frown:0 -
Pour nutrition. I'm onto you! That has to be a clever juice fast pun.0

I am seeing too many posters giving their nosy nelly opinion where it isn't necessary.0
-
I see many with POOR spelling in their titles.
...and dead people. I see dead people too.0 -
I only use the drive thru at McDonalds, does that count as staying out?0

Came for what I thought might be a clever bit of word play. Left very disappointed.0

Yet you admit that your cooking is your downfall...okay.
While I do agree that whole foods are better than processed (which is common sense), I've never been told by any doctor or nutritionist to limit whole grains. In fact, I've heard from a little birdy that whole grains are good for ya!
Also, there's nothing wrong with eating bacon or McDonald's every once in a while. A lot of people gain their weight back because they're too restrictive with their diets and deprive themselves of the food they love. You don't have to cut out everything to be healthy.
I'd suggest speaking with a nutritionist or becoming one yourself before you tell everyone else what they should/should not eat.0 -
I see many nosey people criticizing the diaries of those who didn't ask for it.
I had two pieces of toast today. White toast. I have two pieces of toast a few times a week.. Stay mad.
Only thing that would make that white toast better is Sunnyside up eggs....and bacon. Dirty, dirty bacon.
I do it with grape jelly and bacon. In the form of a sammich. Nomnomnom0 -

As contentious as the posting was always going to be, there are some valid points in there.
My diary is open only to friends. That said, I'd be the first to admit that I sneak some crap in there sometimes - and that sometimes I'd benefit from either moderating it or eliminating it.
I'm going to dwell on the positive and just say that this posting was a welcome reminder to look at the foods themselves and not just the calorie count.0 -
Why are you judging what other people choose to eat?0 -
And let me just say there is NO such thing as bad or good food. There is only bad eating habits. It's about moderation not deprivation.
I want to repeat though...there is NO such thing as bad food. I eat what I want, drink what I want, I'm losing weight. Mind blowing I know!0 -

ETA: If it didn't work for you (because you couldn't stick to it), why would it work for us?

Welcome to MFP I see you joined this month. Many of us have been here for years and been very successful not only losing weight, but improving our health. We have learned to balance "healthy foods" with good tasting foods. We've learned that bread, bacon and fast food are NOT the reason people get fat because eating too many calories is the real reason. We also know that you have to have some sodium to function especially since many of us are athletes.
Here's some better advice:
-Record your calories accurately.
-Make sure your calorie and macro nutrient goals are appropriate.
-Hit your calorie goal, macro goal and micro goals.
-Get active.
-Make changes you can sustain forever.0 -

My diary is open do your worst!
^ This for me as well.
But why you casting stones when your own diary is closed? Afraid to show that your actions do not match your words?0 -
I don't see anything wrong with your food diary. If this is your regular fare you should do just fine. Looks pretty well rounded.0

Love your respectful answer!
I was always taught to respect my elders and love how you tactfully went about answering her even if you do not agree.
Kudos!0
