Dont let 8 cups be your limit either. I'll drink 3-4 litres in a day especially when its warm. Water has a lot of functions in the body and if you're training you really need it for recovery and what not.

Good on ya for joining a gym for a start. It can be daunting, for a while I would only go to the gym at 10/11 at night because there was no one there.
