  • Great post! I have been maintaining for a couple years now and I decided when I started that I was going to lose they same way I was planning to live the rest of my life. I had no intention of never having alcohol, carbs and dessert again so I never gave them up at an point in my weight loss. Granted I then and now make…
  • I hit my goal a couple years ago and have continued to use MFP. It just comes so naturally now to log my food everyday and its a good way to keep an eye on nutrients, micros, macros.... It is just part of my lifestyle now.
  • Fantastic! You look wonderful.
  • I have been in maintaining my goal weight of 125 for several years now. Sometimes I drop to 123, sometimes (more often) I got up to 127 or 128. Once I got up to 130 and when back into strict weight loss mode until I was back down to 125.
  • I am 5' 4" and started at 158. My original goal was 135 but I then settled on 125 and have been maintaining for a couple years now. I wear a size 6 jeans and size small in most tops and my scrubs for work.
  • My mid to late thirties I started slowly gaining weight. My metabolism definitely slowed down and my interest and abilities in cooking got greater. That is one of my struggles now as I work to maintain my weight loss; balance my love of cooking and baking with my desire to be fit and healthy.
  • Oh, I know! I can't eat without pulling out my darned iPhone and checking out the calories in whatever I am planning to eat. It's saved me from many a caloric disaster.
  • I was wondering the same thing. People at work really started noticing when I bought some new scrubs that actually fit and didn't hang on me. (I'm a nurse.) Big clothes can really hid even a significant weight loss. Congrats! You have done a fantastic job; and I guarantee people will notice.
  • Yup. I try to be done eating right after dinner; which I typically have on the table by 6. So by the time i get up at 5;30 I haven't had anything to eat for nearly 12 hours. I work out then eat breakfast about 6:15-6:30.
  • Mine is open and anyone is free to add me if they wish. Being Memorial Day weekend my food intake is quite typical for me right at the moment. But I think honesty is a good thing.
  • A big glob of cream cheese frosting off the stand mixer beaters. Yup, that was my snack. :glasses: I am bringing pumpkin bars with said frosting for a work potluck tomorrow. I love them and at least I get to share with my coworkers instead of hubby and I eating the whole damn pan.
  • Like most people have said, it's a mixed bag. It's great to have people notice my hard work and notice that I have been maintaining for a couple years. I know so many people who lose and gain the same 15-20 pounds and I am so glad I didn't fall into that pattern. But I get tired of the question of what is my secret;…
  • I hear you; my thighs were one of the last places I saw any progress even when I got to my goal weight. One thing that has helped is weight and strength training. Right now I am doing Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30; which combines cardio, strength and abdominal workouts. I have been doing that for about 3 weeks and have…

  • HI there! I am 47 and log every day. I have been maintaining for a couple years after losing 30 pounds. I added a bunch of you and feel free to add me if I didn't.
  • This is exactly right. It's much easier for people to stay heavy and unhealthy when everyone around them is doing the same. When someone takes steps to change and succeeds they get uncomfortable and the stupid comments start.I ignore them for the most part.
  • We are surrounded with emphasis on losing weight with no mention of maintaining; its no wonder most of us struggled when the time came! My number one problem with most weight loss diets and programs is that there is no plan in place for maintenance. Sure, you can lose by eliminating a bunch of foods or whatever the plan…
  • My alarm goes off at 5:30: I exercise at home varying from DVD to treadmill to stationary bike to yoga on rest days. I am in bed by 10 at the latest.
  • Just saw this! I am in my forties, happily married for a long time and no kids. Anyone feel free to add me.

  • I did it all the way through eventually. I think its pretty common to have to go slowly with the lunges and squats; if your knees hurt modify it a bit. My first try resulted in really sore knees, as in climbing stairs was torture for a while. I took a break and resumed and got through the rest. If you need more than 10…
  • Stress at work combined with crap sitting in the break room.
  • Those final few are definitely the hardest. I lost a little over 30 pounds and have been maintaining for couple years. It was so exciting the watch the first 20 drop when I made my changes to my diet and started exercising but the last 10 came off very slowly and I still struggle with a 2-3 pound weight gain now and then.
  • I am 47 and have been maintaining a 33 pound weight loss for 2 years now. I hear you about the metabolism after 40-ouch! I added you.
  • I think it's important to listen to your body. No reason to eat if you aren't hungry. If I am hungry and at or close to my calorie goal I eat something nutritious and don't worry about it.
  • I prefer to do a cheat meal and keep the rest of the day reasonable and healthy. For me a full out cheat day makes me extra hungry for days later.
  • I lost 33 pounds and have kept it off for a year and a half. I will not gain back because I changed my lifestyle. When I decided I needed to lose weight and get healthy I knew I needed start exercising and keep exercising and change my diet. I lost weight the way I planned to live my life; i knew I wouldn't give up…
  • I drink about 24 ounces of black coffee a day; half right away in the morning with breakfast and half later. On work days I drink a cup when I got to the office or at home I usually enjoy it while i browse the internet. I try to be completely done with caffeine but about 10am as I tend to be a bit of an insomniac. Weekends…
  • I lost 30 pounds slowly over a year and have been maintaining for the past year and a half. I log every day to keep myself mindful and I exercise. Much as you said I have realized that I will have to stay vigilant on calories the rest of my life to maintain my weight. I don't consider any food off limits. My carbs are…
  • I have been maintaining my weight loss for about a year and half now. It's a challenge! I remember reading that maintaining is as hard if not harder than losing and I believe it. I cut a bit off the calories MFP wanted to allow me for maintenance. Most of us tend of at least slightly under-estimate our calories due to…
  • I am a nurse in a medical clinic. My manager keeps the candy drawer full and there is usually something temping in the break room as well. I bring my lunch and snacks and generally just try to not even go in the break room or open the candy drawer. But it hard.
  • If you have an eating disorder than so so I. Almost everything you just described is me exactly.
